Melanie's sword retreated from his but remained steady, feeling light and swift in her hands. Melanie attacked again, to the side of his chest, and she took a step forward.
Alex took a step back, blocking her easily. "You're a natural."
"No, I'm not. I just read books. Reading books and actually doing the things in said books are two totally different things." Melanie remarked, scowling at him before attacking once more, on his other side this time.
Alex blocked it just as quickly. "I know. That doesn't mean that you don't have some raw talent."
"Malarky. I'm good with my hands, not a blade. Mind if I try defending?" Melanie looked at him, knowing that she was asking for him to attack her. "If I'm too slow, stop the blade if you can."
Alex nodded, flicking his blade towards her hip.
"Sh-Okay…" Her blade moved quickly, blocking his, but she clearly didn't expect something that quickly. Her voice was nervous and wavered often.
Alex nodded taking a step back. "Stay on your toes" he said.
"Yep. Figured." Her voice faltered, but her eyes were locked on his hand holding his blade. She wasn't going to be startled this time, she hoped.
Alex stepped back in, his blade flicking towards her left shoulder.
Melanie stepped back and held her blade up high, keeping Alex's blade between the hilt and the point where the palm of her hand touched the blade. Her face was in a grimace, and her feet dug into the ground.
"That all you got?" She managed to say, a smug look to her.
Alex raised an eyebrow. "Melanie I'm going easy on you." He said. "I don't think you wanna see how fast I can attack."
"I'm pretty sure I don't, either. But just for the hell of it, sure. I'll see if I can keep up…maybe." Probably not… Melanie grinned, and she got in a ready position.
Alex sighed, launching into a series of fast, light attacks. Each one came within inches of injuring her, but none connected.
"JESUS FUCKING-Hey! Not fair!" Melanie says, flinging her sword around like a lunatic, and, of all the things that her face could be doing, grinning was one of the things it did.
(I didn't know if you were okay with swearing, so if you want me to, I'll edit the post)
(It's cool once in awhile. Though I have to say I definitely wasn't expecting a reply at this hour…)
Alex grinned dodging her sword and dancing back. "You realize that if I were trying to hurt you you'd be dead right now?" He said laughing.
(I'm working on something and I have a time crunch…I just needed kind of a break)
(Cool. I have school tomorrow and a bad case of insomnia…. again…)
(Yay, that's always fun…I have no school tomorrow (or today), but I can't work then…both of my parental units are at work…)
"Yep, pretty sure!" Melanie laughs nervously, trying her best to move her sword to parry his blows, but never makes it in time.
Alex finally stopped, backing away from her on light feet. "You're gonna hafta be a lot faster than that." He said.
"I'm trying, like, actually trying! I'm not used to people swinging a sword at me at lightning-speed! And I will probably never need to use a sword ever in my life! And I just really wanna do something else, because this is kind of embarrassing on my part…" Melanie sighed, putting her sword down before stretching.
Alex laughed, "hey you should've seen me when I was trying to learn!" He said, "I was worse than you are, and beaten repeatedly by my sister."
"I somehow doubt that." Melanie picked up her blade, letting it hang down at her side. "I'm not that good. I understand the compliments, and I thank you for it, but I'm used to criticism. So, feel free to bombard me with what you've got."
