Rai attempted to memorize which route she took, but she knew it would never work out and she'd have to use GPS to get back. She took her mind off of the route and took in her surroundings. The farther she biked, the less amount of people were. Each building became more and more worn down and spaced apart.
Up ahead, Rai noticed an abundance of cars gathered around a building. She pressed on the brakes, the bike skidding to a stop. This seems like a worthy adventure. What happened here?
M slowly took on a run. He could hear the sirens up ahead and he was already going very fast. He swerved past a girl, who was literally straight up in his way. He barely grazed her with his tie, which was fluttering against his ruthless speed. He probably ruined it, but hey, it’s the first crime scene in this area. He pushed his way through the people. They more or less moved for him. He walked out of the gale of people to the body.
It was a young man. His hair was splayed out everywhere and his limbs were splayed out over the ground. He looked graceful and soft in death, somehow. Even with the white outline surrounding him.
Rai snapped her head towards the man that nearly crashed into her. He headed into the scene, which leads Rai to believe he was a detective, of course, the other indicator being his clothes. She tried standing on her toes to see past the people, but decided to go around to a space with less people, and snuck under the police tape to get a closer look.
Rai heard bits and pieces of the conversation. "…assassination? Maybe a suicide…"
"…looks real bad…"
She eyed the body from a distance, hoping no one noticed her crossing the line. The death was gruesome, but Rai was more intrigued than anything else. How did he die? Who was he?
(M wasn’t in a car ^-^
He was running)
M kneeled near the guy’s head, studying his expression which he wore before he died. Fear. Even in the empty depths of this poor lost soul’s eyes, he could see it. How his mouth was formed and how his eyes seemed to be wide.
“It looks real bad,” Mused the soft intern next to him.
M raised a finger to silence him. But something was still stirring his ears. Another voice. Everyone knew to be silent around him. Everyone. Whether they knew why or not. His eyes traced the crowd of people around, until his gaze found a girl. She looked concerned but amazed. Her thoughts tickled annoyingly at his focus.
“Get her out.” His gaze was sharp and steely. “She has crossed the line.” He rose to his feet. “Who let her in?” He thundered, his deep voice raised to carry out.
“Uh…” A poorly little man rose his hand slowly. “I-I did sir. I wasn’t paying attention.”
M’s angry gaze traveled to the man. “I will be seeing you in my office once this is over. Meanwhile, get this girl out. Please, thank you…” He kneeled back down.
LISTEN I CHANGED IT I KNOW HE WAS RUNNING I WAS DISTRACTED
dude chill I’m not mad xD
Rai made eye contact with two men, and she realized her cover had been blown somehow. How did they notice me? One of the men ushered her out and she contemplated resisting, but Rai wasn't there to get into trouble. She solemnly obeyed, still confused of how she had been spotted. Rai ducked under the tape, turning back around to witness the scene.
She tried to scan the place. There must be another way in. Maybe I'll follow the car that takes the body?
M’s hands twitched and he shut his eyes. My Gods. She will not shut her mouth for two seconds. He inhaled deeply and tried to regrasp at himself.
“Are you okay, sir?” Asked the intern quietly.
“Yes I am fine. Distracted, is all. I’m sorry.” He looked back down at the body. There was a spurt of blood nearby, suggesting the young man bounced before he fell. Was he possibly pushed?
I could electrocute everyone?
Rai shook her head at the intrusive thought, knowing she'd be arrested on the spot if she ever caused such a catastrophe. A lady next to her, her hair graying indicating she was probably around her mid 50's, shook her head sadly. "It's crazy how these things could happen. I can't stand looking at the body."
Rai scoffed. "It's sad, sure, but you don't have to look." Rai fidgets with her hands, squinting her eyes as she waits for the detective to leave, if he'll ever leave.
M stared down at the body for a few more moments, before curling his legs up underneath himself and plopping down on the road. His eyes were glued to the faded green ones. He appeared to be deep in thought. The circle of men and women around him were quiet, as if they had all died too.
A soft voice from behind Rai sighed. “That M. He’s going to take forever, isn’t he?”
Another slightly scolding one reprimanded them with, “He can take his sweet old time! We’re the ones bothering him.”
Rai shook her head as she watched the detective. "If it's so easy to figure out deaths, why don't you try it yourself?" Rai said with an edge in her voice. She smiled intimidatingly to the person behind her. Rai turned her head back to body, wishing she could've been helping the detective. Imagine! What an adventure that would be!
She tapped her foot, eyes flickering around the place, looking for clues. If only I could get closer again…
oh yes I am also heading to bed, fyi! i love ur writing!
(Thanks! I love yours too! Will you be on at all in the morning?)
Both of the people afixed her with a glare and hissed “Shhhh!” at her through their teeth. Everyone knew not to raise their voice, unless it was positively necessary.
M’s gaze flicked up again and he heaved a deep sigh. “Come in, then. If you are just so determined to mess me up.” He looked over at her over his shoulder.
(i have school tomorrow im sorry! I'll reply when I can!)
(Okay! Sounds good. I’ll be on basically all day soooo)
Rai stood, unsure why everyone had to be absolutely quiet. She opened her mouth to retort, but the man glanced to her and said, “Come in, then. If you are just so determined to mess me up.”
Her eyes widened as she entered the crime scene, eyes staring daggers into her back. Rai cautiously stood alongside M, eyes glazing over the body and the area surrounding it. "You'd think his face would be more relaxed if it was suicide." She shook her head, "Have you checked for clues on the roof of the building?" Rai said, peering at the top. No wonder he needed silence, there's so much pressure.
M was glowering at her slightly. “Do not treat me like I am an idiot. I know his facial expression is too odd to be suicide. It was probably murder, since there is fear written in his face, and he probably bounced off of that ledge over there.” He pointed and looked back up at the building. “This is not a very far fall. Whomever did this to him probably just wanted him hurt, not killed. They were just inconvenienced by the sidewalk.” He rose to his feet. “However, I will check the roof now. I think what I have concurred is a good base.”
She cocked her head, intrigued by his intelligence and demeanor. Interesting points. "You are the professional, sir, and I know that. May I come with you to the roof? I promise I won't touch anything." Rai chimed. She wondered how long M had been working, and how much experience it took to do these types of jobs. You'd have to have a keen eye, something I lack. Perhaps I could learn something in this adventure.
M’s intern scrambled to his feet and opened his mouth to protest Rai following them.
M rose a finger. “Let her come. Keep your promise and don’t touch a thing.” He led the way to the building, ducked under the police tape and pushed his way into the building. It was a quaint little store, which had its lights off and food littered the ground. One of the shelves was on its side.
M gave them a carefully searching look and pointed to a pool of blood. “Sample. We need to figure out who this man is. Or if we’re lucky, the murderer.” He didn’t sound too hopeful, though.
Rai followed behind M, placing her feet carefully around the items on the floor. Don't step on anything, and do not step on evidence.
He gestured towards a pool of blood which had tape around it, talking out loud of the what to do with it. Rai nodded to show she was listening. Together, they made their way up to the roof of the store, where more evidence waited.
"What is your name, sir?" Rai asked.
The wind weakly tossed at their hair. It barely stirred the hair off of M’s skinny shoulders. He glanced at her when she spoke, his dull icy eyes barely conveying emotion.
“My name? People call me M.” He turned away again, looking around. He didn’t see anything out of the ordinary. No dents in thr AC unit, no spots of blood on the ground…
"M? I like that. I'm Inazuma, but most people just call me Rai," she said, walking around the border of the roof. She came to the side where the man fell and inspected the ground, but didn't find much. There must be clues somewhere!
"Hey, wait, come here," she called, waving M over. Rai pointed to a minuscule piece of ripped fabric near the ledge, but it didn't look like anything the victim was wearing. "Is this a stretch or…?" she muttered, not wanting to seem stupid.
M looked over the edge, his hair falling around his face. “It is a pleasure.” He glanced over, grazing it in a calculating look. “That appears to be part of a police officer’s uniform. Perhaps it was… one of them? Please go down and fetch everyone. Or pick it up. I’m not done up here just yet.”
