“Well, I only did it once. It was temporary, don’t worry.” She glanced to the side, a little unused to people noticing their abilities. Then again, she didn’t make it a habit of showing them off. In this case, she had just been bored.
They sighed a little. It was Lee whom she had blinded, poor guy. He had noticed her skin glowing once and got curious, and it only escalated from there. At least it was late in the evening, when neither of them were working.
Lor nodded slowly. "Cool. Could be a good weapon, if someone ever hurts you." they said, studying her. "Either way, magic is a neat thing to have, I think."
“Yes, it’s useful,” Indigo said vaguely. Blinding people was nice, but that was the only way she could use magic offensively. Other than that, her magic was harmless. Besides, if they had used it at any of the times her enslavers had physically harmed them, it would not have gone well in the long run. It was neither a blessing or curse to Indigo, only a tool or something to hide.
They shrugged faintly, still heading towards the kitchens. To be honest, they had mainly meant threats from other humans, or at least people of similar social standing.
Truthfully, Indigo had not experienced many threats from those of similar social status to her that could be solved with magic, so the idea didn’t really occur to them. They had mostly gotten used to using wit or some other means of evading trouble or harm. Perhaps it was just a product of being raised by a human parent.
Once they had arrived at the kitchen, Lor poked their head inside. "Hello." They greeted the staff, giving them a smile. "Could myself and Indigo have some food? We are both servants of the Palace."
She came up beside them, sniffing the air as the smells of many foods hit their nose.
“Ah, fried bread,” she murmured, almost dreamily. They blinked, turning their attention to the kitchen staff. “Some small cups of water would also be appreciated,” she suggested.
One of the maids nodded a little, and got a platter for the two of them. She put two plates on it, with food on each plate, as well as utensils and two glasses of water.
Indigo watched with interest, and after a moment’s hesitation, spoke up. “Do you need help?” She asked the maid.
The maid shook her head. "No, it is fine. Do you two want the tray, or do you want to just take your food and go?" She asked. "Though I need you to bring back the dishes when you are done."
Indigo shrugged, then looked to Lor. “What do you think?”
Lor shrugged. "Whichever is easier for you." They told the maid, running a hand over the stubble on top of their head.
The maid sighed faintly. "Just take your plates, then. That way we don't have to clean the tray too." She replied, holding up the tray.
Indigo made a noise of agreement, then went up and took the cups, handing them both to Lor before getting the plates. “Thank you,” she told the maid, then went back out of the kitchen.
Lor took the cups, and the utensils, thanked the maid, and followed Indigo out of the kitchen. "Well, where do you want to go to eat?" they asked, raising their eyebrows over at her.
“Ah, I usually eat in my room in the prince’s chambers,” they shrugged. “But we don’t have to go there if you aren’t comfortable with that.”
"I do not care what we do." they replied, shrugging right back at them. "So we can go wherever you feel most comfortable going. If that is the prince's chambers, then so be it."
“Alright then,” she said, inclining her head. They moved in the direction of the prince’s chambers, hoping that he would not be inside when they arrived.
(should he be inside?)
They followed after them, their steps measured and careful. They did not want to spill the water or drop the utensils that they carried, as the water would make a mess that would then need to be cleaned up.
(idc whether or not he is, which do you think would be better?)
(Mm, perhaps he should be inside. Could be interesting)
Indigo also tried to be careful of the plates, though it also made them a bit slow. It was a few minutes until they arrived, and staring at the door, she let out a small breath. Perhaps they should’ve taken the tray with them, so their hands wouldn’t be full. Carefully, they balanced one of the plates between her upper arm and her chest so her hand would be free to use. After opening the door, they took the plate in her hand again and peered inside.
Riven was sprawled out on his couch, laying on his back with one hand pillowed behind his head. The gold circlet he usually wore was nestled in his dark curls, a loose white chiton the only clothing on his body. He looked up when the door opened, eyes landing on her. "Oh, there you are." he remarked, looking back up at the ceiling again.
Indigo grimaced to herself. Well, at least it didn’t seem like he wanted to bother her with something. “Your Highness,” they greeted, bowing their head. Moving to hold the door open for Lor, she gestured to her room with one of the plates.
