Elina stood up. "As much as I like being Queen, I always hoped that it was you taking the throne. I never wanted the responsibility of a kingdom, and you're first borne so it felt wrong."
Anah felt another icy breath rising up her throat. "And?" she asked, her exhale frigid.
"And… Even though you can't take up the throne, I would like you to be my Royal Adviser. You'd make most of the decisions for the Kingdom, and you'd get most of the same perks as me."
Anah swallowed her anger. It tasted like sour bile in her throat. "Why would you want a dangerous ice queen to be your royal adviser?" she asked quietly.
"You're not dangerous if you have someone to keep you safe."
Anah let in a shaky breath. "Are you sure? I… I don't want to lose control and hurt you."
"I can help you keep control. Believe it or not, I had trouble controlling my magic too."
"What do you mean?" Anah asked quietly.
"When we discovered I could heal, I couldn't control it. Any minor scar or cut was gone as soon as it happened."
"But isn't that a good thing? When I lose control…" she looked at her hands then hid them by crossing her arms loosely.
"Not when a broken bone is healed in its broken state," Elina sighed.
“Oh…” Anah wanted to comfort her sister, but she was afraid. Push away your fear. Slowly, carefully, almost timidly, she approached Elina and pulled her into a gentle hug.
"I'll admit that I was scared. I didn't know how to stop the healing. So mum and dad helped me."
Anah tensed slightly at the mention of their parents. “And…?”
"They helped me to slow down my healing process. So that I could think about what was being healed when and how."
Anah nodded thoughtfully. Her heart ached for their parents, and she wished she hadn't been so foolish as to leave. "That's good," she said softly.
"And then they helped me to focus my power on others," Elina explained. "I can help you too."
Anah nodded, still concealing her hands. They were growing colder and colder by the minute. Control… Control…
Elina saw concern on her sister's face. "Do you still want my help?"
NO! How can SHE possibly help? She left you to die on that mountain!
"Yes," Anah coughed. "I… I do."
OK." Elina took Anah's hand and led her outside to the courtyard.
Anah followed willingly. "What are we doing here?"
Elina looked around. "It's a big enough area for you to start learning. We'll start small."
"How is this going to help me?" she asked quietly, looking at her hands. Frost had begun to form on her palms and she quickly wiped it off on her dress.
"'You can't leap into healing cancer if you can't heal a simple cut,'" Elina recited.
