“What about a yellow sign with a jumping deer?”

"Deer crossing. It means that the area is populated by deer, and advises you to watch for them."

“Yes, because for some reason they like to jump out in front of cars.” She half chuckled.

"Yes… I've heard the term 'deer in headlights', which I believe is talking about deer and the frontal lights of a car, correct? Deer like to stand in them."

“Yeah, they do that but I don’t think they like it. They’re just..entrances by it? Sort of maybe.”

"Perhaps they're frozen in fear? I know the feeling…"

“Yeah, pretty much.” She reached down to let Apollo’s head.

"Anything else?" Lloyd shook his head slightly as though trying to clear it.

“Um, probably, but I can’t think of anything else.” She shrugged.

"Okay… should we go to the place where I'm supposed to take the actual test now? Wait, don't I need to know how to actually drive first?"

Sabina shook her head, “No, just the rules of the road. Then once you get your permit I can teach you how to drive the actual car.”

Lloyd nodded. "Well, I suppose I should let you lead the way, hmm?"

“Yeah, we’ll probably take the car.” She pulled Apollo out of her pocket.

Lloyd went downstairs with Sabina and got into the car. At the very least, he was less anxious when he was in them now.

Sabina sat down in the driver’s side and started up the car. She pulled out of the driveway and onto the road towards the BMV.

They arrived in the BMV and went in to get the written test. Lloyd completed the test with relative ease and returned it, walking back to Sabina. "When do I get the results?"

“Immediately.” She answered, “At least it’s supposed to be.”

"Alright." After a few minutes, they told Lloyd that he passed. "That's good, right?" He whispered to Sabina.

Sabina grinned, “Yep, that’s very good. I think you’ll get your permit in the mail.”

"Thank you, sir." Lloyd bowed politely to the man who had given him the test, who seemed vaguely confused. They went back out to the car and got in.

Sabina started the car again, “We just have to wait before you can start driving now, I suppose.”

"Yep. Can't honestly say I'm super excited about it, since these car things make me nervous, but whatever…"

“Yeah, I can understand why. They can be pretty frightening at times, but for the most part they’re fine and very useful.” She felled quiet to think, “Would you like to go out to eat?”

"Uh… sure? Where would you want to go? I obviously don't know much about the area."

“I have a coffee place I like to go that sells everything from coffee, hot chocolate, pastries, various cold drinks, sandwiches. The atmosphere is amazing too.”
