She squeezed his hand lightly, just to remind herself that he was real and not just a really elaborate hallucination.
She squeezed his hand lightly, just to remind herself that he was real and not just a really elaborate hallucination.
Skye gave her a smile, before letting go and disappearing down an alleyway. Coming back about five minutes later he had a small paper bag with him, and someone was shouting. Grinning he shifted the package and took her hand, leading her along the rooftops.
"What did you take this time?" She laughed, letting him pull her along.
"Can't have a date without food" laughed Skye.
She rolled her eyes with a smile, blushing red.
Skye smirked, helping her over to the next rooftop, which was a tall clocktower. Leading her into a small hole in the wall, watching as the sun went down, he led her into the clockroom, and around all the various gears, over to the stairs on the far side.
She glanced around at all the gears in slight wonder. She smiled to herself, she loved clocktowers.
Skye led her to the stairs on the far wall, "Come on!"
She snapped out of her thoughts before chasing after him. "I'm coming I'm coming!"
Skye grinned, leading her up many many stairs.
She just followed quickly, dragging her fingers along the rough stone walls.
By the time they got to the top it was already dark out, and the city had been lit with lights. Skye stopped under a loose panel, pushing it aside, and hoisting himself up onto the roof. Grinning he held a hand out to Crystal.
She took it quickly, taking the extra time to glance up at him with a smile.
Skye pulled, hoisting her up next to him. Taking a quick look around you could see the old, worn rooftop they were on, high above any other in the city. Looking down you could see the bright lights of the city below, contrasted by the dark sky above. and beyond that you could see the huge trees that surrounded the city.
"You found my hiding spot. I used to love coming up here when I was younger to just watch the sunset and see the city come to life at night." She smiled a little.
"Your hiding spot?!" asked Skye with surprise. "I used to come up here all the time as a kid…. but for a different reason."
"Yeah! I was a bit of an adventurous kid, always climbing around and getting into trouble. This place was my home away from home. After Mom died and Dad started drinking…after Eliza left and Hayley died…after Charlie was beaten and bloodied so bad he ran away…" Her voice grew quieter with each sentence, tears brimming in her eyes.
Skye's face fell, and he quickly wrapped her in a gentle hug. "Shhh…. it's ok now…"
Sh wrapped her arms around him. "And there was me, stuck in the middle of it all. I lost everyone. Alone. All alone." She sniffed, her tears streaming down her cheeks. "Why doesn't anyone want me anymore?"
"Calamate… It's all behind you now…" He whispered, hugging her, making sure she could pull away at any time.
"The third child out of four, destined to be forgotten. That's how people knew me. The Duke's third daughter, the troublemaker, the family disappoinment." She hugged him tighter, just needing something to hold on to.
Skye stood there, listening, " Try being forced to hang back as one of your youngest brother has to fight his twin….. knowing your youngest brother is stronger then you, and he would get killed if you interfere, even though he gets hurt when you don't." he said quietly….
She bit her lip softly, wiping her tears but wincing when she pressed into her bruise. "I'm fine. It's fine. Everything's fine." She muttered to herself. While it was almost never true, it tricked her mental state into thinking she was.
Skye let her pull away, "Are you sure?"
She hesitated before crumbling. "No. No, I'm not."
