(It's a website. I know someone on there, and I thought that they came to Notebook, and I thought it was you. Sorry! XP)

Lukas' eyes fluttered open, wincing at the light filtering in through his window. He groaned and turned over, laying there until he heard his father calling him to help make breakfast.

"Coming, dad," he yelled back, voice husky from sleep.

((i was thinking to start on the morning of the Reaping, is that okay?))

Julia got out of bed, a sinking feeling in her chest. She walked out to breakfast and the second her mother saw her, she burst into tears. Julia bit her lip, unsure of how to respond at this point. It was the morning of the Reaping, and her house was unearthly empty.

Lukas entered the kitchen, ruffling his sister's hair as he walked by. He forgot it was the morning of the Reaping, but soon was reminded by the look in his father's eyes. 31 times. He had put in his name in 31 times, but he told his father he did only 15.

"What's cookin'?" he asked, peering over his father's shoulder. It looked like eggs and bacon, a feast compared to the mere piece of toast he got in the mornings. If I do get picked, it'll be a good last meal from home, he thought wearily, sitting down at the table.

"Mom… it's okay." Julia tried to ease her sobbing mother, but her voice only sounded tight. "Please don't cry," she whispered.
Rebeka nodded and wiped at her face. "You're right," she said shakily. "I'm sorry. I'll get breakfast."
Sooner, too soon for Terrys, the call for the Reaping sounded. Julia was adorned in her best dress as she walked to the square, a good 5 paces ahead of her parents. Head high, show them no fear. The universe can't be that cruel…

Lukas felt rushed as he hastily put on his best dress shirt and khakis, his father pushing him to get out the door as fast as he can. He really does want to get this over with as fast as he can, huh? he thought, lips pursed. Holding Evelyn's hand, he led her down to the square. Still too young to get reaped, she stood there and watched year after year, asking each time what happened to them. His father fabricated some lie, like they were chosen to go to the Capitol and live there. Lukas' heart broke a little when she told him earnestly that she wanted to get picked. He had to hush her quickly.

The pinch of the needle stung slightly as he pressed his finger to the paper. Here goes to not being reaped.

Julia hugged her parents tightly before standing with the other eighteen year old girls, all of whom looked at her pitifully. Julia tried to calm herself. This was her last year. She just had to make it through this Reaping. (Is Effie picking the names?)

Deleted user

((Yes she is. Would you like to be her, or would you like me to?))

Lukas shifted nervously. He only had another year after this one, then he would be out of the woods. His father wouldn't worry so much, and hopefully that would help with his anxiety. Lukas slowly let out a breath. You're not going to get picked, you're not going to get picked. he repeated the words in his head over and over again like it would save him.

(Doesn't matter to me! I can do it if you don't want to, but if you do, that's cool.)

Julia looked over at the adult section, where her parents stood. Despite their best efforts, both of them were a mess. She quickly looked away. You'll be fine. They're going to call someone else's name and you can go home.

Deleted user

((I can))

Lukas' palms began to sweat as Effie did her speech. Rubbing them on his pants, he looked around the crowd, struggling to find his father's face. As soon as he did, Lukas saw it was filled with worry. He's not going to lose his only son today, he thought to himself. There were a ton of boys in District 12, and some of their names were in a lot more than him.

As Effie walked over to the girl's bowl, he perked up. He hoped it wasn't one of the Terry girls; every couple of years they were picked, and they never made it. "Now, ladies first!" Effie's high pitched voice echoed across the silent town square. She rummaged through the bowl and quickly pulled out a name. With a smile on her lips, she said, "Julia Terry!"

Lukas' blood froze. He felt so bad for her parents. She was the last one, and they lost their daughter to the same thing as the previous ones; the Capitol.

Julia felt her heart stop. She was numb, frozen on the spot. Her mother's wails filled the air. Only when a Peacekeeper grabbed her arm and muttered, "Come on" did she move.
"No!" she cried. "No! No, please!" She struggled against their grip, not caring what anyone thought. "Please!"
When she was finally forced up onto the stage, she was shaking, looking at her parents. Her father was doing his best to console her mother, who was an emotional wreck. Julia tried to take deep breaths, but she found that the air kept getting caught in her throat. No… No, no, no… Not after I told her it would be alright… no no no… Please… someone volunteer. Of course, no one did.

As soon the name was called, he immediately turned to look at the girls' section. Lukas could see her struggling against the Peacekeeper, and was dragged rather forcefully up on stage. A pang hit his heart as she visibly shook. The Terry family has lost everything, he thought. Every single thing. He wished he could be up there to comfort her.

Effie looked on with slight disgust on her face as she looked at Julia. Now that made Lukas' blood boil. The Capitol looked at District 12 like they were the dirt underneath their pristine shoes. He fumed silently as she walked over to the boys' bowl.

"Now, our male tribute!" She fished her hand around in the bowl before picking a piece of paper out. Clearing her throat, her soprano voice rang out. "Lukas Greenwood!"

Lukas' blood went from fire to ice. He didn't feel anything. No. That was a lie. He felt numb. His senses finally kicked back in when the Peacekeepers were shoving through the crowd to get to him. "No…no…" his voice was breathy as he backed away from them and into the open separation between the crowds. Lukas could feel the eyes of everyone burning into his back, and his social anxiety spiked. I just want to go home, the mantra repeated in his head like a broken record, and he couldn't bring himself to look at his dad. He must be so disappointed in his son, a voice in his mind said. He must be thinking of what a weak son he has.

Julia trembled violently. She covered her face with her hands when the Peacekeepers brought her male partner up on the stage. She couldn't bear another second of this torture. She thought about nabbing the nearest Peacekeeper's gun and doing it. What would the Capitol think about that?

A new thought struck her. What would her parents think of that? To be chosen to die was one thing, but to be chosen to die, yet having the slightest chance -and the slightest chance was all she needed- of survival and to just give up? She couldn't do that. She was stay. She would try. She would fight.

She uncovered her face and looked over at the boy - Lukas - who looked faint. She crossed the stage and interlaced their fingers, trying a small smile. Maybe they could comfort each other.

Lukas felt a hand grab his hand, and glanced over to see Julia with a small smile on her face. He tried to send a comforting smile back, but it came out shaky. He could still everyone's eyes on him, and it felt like he was burning alive. A modern-day Icarus, he thought mournfully.

Lukas must have missed all of Effie's little speech, since suddenly he was being pushed into the building behind him, quite roughly he might add, and into a little room. He recognized it as being the one where he would last meet is family. If he didn't win, that is.

Julia waited anxiously. Her fingers drummed against the soft couch cushion. Her mother and father came in, both looking distraught. She quickly stood up and embraced them.
"We love you, okay?" her father whispered.
"I know. I promise I'll try. I'll try and come back," Julia said, quietly telling herself that she would.
Too soon, a Peacekeeper opened the doors. "Time's up."
"No! No!" her mother began to yelled. She hugged Julia tightly one last time before she was dragged out.
She tried to stand, but her legs wouldn't hold her. She sat down and trembled. She would win. She would try to win.

Lukas' breaths came out in pants, and his mouth ran dry. He vaguely recognized it as an oncoming panic attack, but he couldn't bring himself to try to stop it. Around him, the room seemed to spin, and that's what he could see through the oncoming wave of tears. A comforting hand ran up and down his back, and a calming voice he identified as his father started to soothe him.

"Da-Dad, they-they're all stare-staring at me," Lukas managed to choke out. God, he must be so disappointed in you, the voice said, wasting his last moments with his son bringing him out of a panic attack he can't control.

Too soon, the Peacekeeper came back and took his father back. Lukas reached out a hand to him and mumbled a quiet 'no,' but couldn't find it in himself to stand.

After a couple more empty minutes, Julia heard the doors open again. No one was there, except Effie Trinket. No one else had come to see her. Effie said something about being on a train ride, but Julia may as well have been underwater. She just nodded and stood, moving quickly past Effie and into the hall. Where's Lukas? she wondered. She could see a train waiting just outside a pair of doors ahead.

She turned around to face Effie again. "Where's Lukas?" she asked. Her voice sounded funny - probably from all of the crying.

Effie spoke with a smile. "Oh, your partner? He's coming, he just had to get "calmed down" a little," she said, her smile turning down with distaste as she mentioned him calming down. She started to walk out of the room, beckoning Julia to come with her. "Now, come on. We simply cannot be late to the train!"

Lukas was ripped from the couch by a Peacekeeper, but he couldn't find himself to care as he was focused on his dad. That's the last time you'll ever get to see him, and you fucked it up. Good job Lukas, the voice snarled. He just shut his eyes tightly as another sob racked his body. Curse my social anxiety.

Dragged to another room, he could barely focus on the words of what looked like a doctor was saying. The tears wouldn't stop flowing, and his chest hurt. I just want to go home. A bottle of pills was shoved in his hand, and he caught her saying that they were for his anxiety. Great, can't wait to pop some pills.

He was forcefully escorted again, and this time out of the back of the building and to the train. Sitting down on the bench, Lukas put his head into his hands. Where's Julia?

Julia followed Effie aboard the train, worried for Lukas. He hadn't seemed quite right at the ceremony. She wanted to find him and make sure that everything was okay. She searched the whole train and finally found him in the very last car.

Her eyes observed the car quickly before she entered. The whole ceiling and about halfway down every wall was glass. Couches that promised comfort lined the rest of the space. There was a small table with some withered looking flowers in a vase. Hesitantly, she approached him. His head was in his hands. Okay… not exactly screaming TALK TO ME.

"Lukas?" she asked softly. The faint whir of the train along the tracks filled the silence.

Lukas' head jerked up, and he saw Julia. Relief flowed through his veins, and he stood up to greet her. Finally, someone familiar. If he recalled correctly, Julia was in his grade, and one of the older ones. He also vaguely remembered her not coming to school after the days her sisters were picked. He couldn't blame her. If his little sister was picked, he would be lost too.

"Julia," he said, a bit breathlessly. To be honest, Lukas' panic attack had taken quite a lot out of him, and all he needed was a nap and good food. And the last train car had seemed the place to be; away from an annoying Effie and a probably drunk Haymitch. Plus, the couches looked and felt as soft as he could imagine.

"Are… Are you okay?" she asked. "You… uh, seemed kinda out of it on the platform. I wanted to make sure that you were alright." That was just what she did - bury herself in helping others to forget her own pain. And it usually worked.

Every time one of her sisters was reaped, she would miss school and clean the house. It just… helped in an unexplainable way. "Do you need anything?" she added for good measure.
