Devon shouldered her bag as she nodded slowly. That was good because she ended up spending a lot of time cleaning when he came over…
"Okay. Thanks, then," she said softly, smiling up at him before starting toward the kitchen. "I'm just going to put these in a vase before we do anything."
“Alright,” he nodded, slipping his battered jacket off his shoulders.
“Feel free to make yourself at home, as usual,” Devon said, shooting him a quick smile over her shoulder as she set her empty cup in the trash before beginning to look around for a vase.
“This is home,” Sebastian smiled warmly, inhaling the familiar scents of the house. “Are you sure there’s nothing you need help with?”
Devon blushed a little at his words, her smile growing. “No, I’m okay. It should be around here somewhere…”
"If you're sure," he murmured, seating himself in the armchair that had been his favourite over the past few months.
“Do you want anything to drink? Or eat?” Devon called from the kitchen as she finally found the clear vase and filled it with water.
"No, thank you," Sebastian raised his voice to respond, a smile tugging at his lips.
Devon hummed her response, knowing he couldn't hear her. The vase was finally filled with water, so she stuck the flowers inside and set them on the table. She smiled at the sight before making her way to the living room and curling up in the couch, a fuzzy blanket in her arms.
"Thanks again for the flowers, Seb," she said softly, smiling over at him. "It really does mean a lot to me."
“I’m glad.” Sebastian smiled affectionately over at her, a vision of calm. But in his lap, his hands were clasped tightly, betraying how nervous he was.
Devon glanced down at her blanket on her lap and fiddled with a corner. “So… Do you want to play a game, maybe? Or talk?”
"Talk," he agreed quickly, biting the inside of his cheek. "I actually–I had something to ask you?"
That piqued her interest…
Devon glanced up and furrowed her eyebrows in question. “O-oh? What, uh… what is it?”
Sebastian leaned over, propping both elbows up on his knees. "I don't want to make you nervous," he began slowly, "And I will be completely understanding, no matter how you answer this question. But… I wanted to know how ready you are to make our relationship status… official, I guess."
“Oh… Oh, Sebastian… I— Yeah. Yeah, I’m— I’m ready for that,” Devon breathed, her confused expression turning into a small smile that slowly grew.
Sebastian's face practically glowed with happiness. "Really?"
Devon nodded, grinning at this point. “Yeah. Really…”
A blush bloomed across his cheeks. "Congratulations," he grinned, "You've got yourself one very happy boyfriend."
Devon's cheeks grew pink at his words, an she laughed lightly. "Gosh, that's nice to hear… I— It's been a while since I had a boyfriend… And now I'm a girlfriend again."
“Girlfriend.” Sebastian tried the word out on his tongue, grinning like an absolute idiot. “You know, I really like that word.”
Was it possible for her smile to grow any wider? Gosh, just hearing the word coming from him, and knowing that it was now reserved for her… She could hardly believe it. She hadn't even been this excited when her last boyfriend had asked to go out with her…
"Thank you, Seb," she breathed softly, reaching out so she could take his hand.
“The pleasure is all mine,” Sebastian promised, rising from the arm chair in order to seat himself beside her. He still left a few feet of space between them, not wanting to intrude or frighten her, but gladly accepted the hand she’d outstretched.
"You can sit closer, now," Devon let him know softly, squeezing his hand with that same goofy smile on her lips. "I think— No, not think… I've gotten a lot more comfortable around you. And I like that. I like being able to hug you, and I like it when you hug me. I would like it if you surprised me with a hug, as long as it was from the front."
“You have no idea how happy that makes me,” he told her, his smile widening. “Knowing that you trust me to that extent.”
And, after a brief moment of hesitation, he leaned forward and engulfed her in a hug. “Best Valentine’s Day ever..”
Devon blinked once, not thinking he would actually take her up on the offer so quickly. Once she'd caught up, she smiled and wrapped her arms around him, as well.
"Definitely… You have no idea what this has meant to me," she murmured softly, burying her face in his shoulder as she felt tears pricking her eyes.
