"I'm definitely glad, too," he agreed in a voice barely above a whisper.
"I'm definitely glad, too," he agreed in a voice barely above a whisper.
Devon gave him a small smile, squeezing his hand gently. Was she falling for him? Was that what this feeling was? This feeling like she was drowning in emotions and never wanted to surface. Like she was free falling and never wanted to hit the ground…
It was exhilarating and frightening at the same time.
Eventually, Sebastian forced himself to pull away, thus disrupting the moment. “The, um, muffins should be ready by now..”
A loud beeping confirmed his words, making Devon jump. She glanced up at him with a small smile.
“You must be magic,” she joked with a soft laugh before going to pull them out of the oven.
“Definitely,” he smiled, “Let’s hope that opinion doesn’t change after tasting my muffins.”
“I’m sure they’ll be great,” Devon said, setting the muffin pans down on the top of the stove. She took her oven mitts off and put them away, turning to Sebastian when she was finished. “How long do you usually wait for them to be done cooling?”
"If I can restrain myself, ten minutes. If I can't….." He offered a lopsided grin. "I'll grab plates, you can sit down. Relax."
“Pft, nonono. C’mon, it’s my apartment. I should help you finish things up,” Devon insisted with a grin. “I’ll frost them, you can arrange them on a plate.”
“So stubborn…” he teased with a theatrical sigh. “Fine, fine. You can frost them.”
Devon chuckled softly and grabbed the tube of frosting from where it had been placed on the counter. With a hidden smirk, she quickly turned to place a dab of frosting on Sebastian’s face before turning around walking over to the muffins, biting her tongue to hold in her laughter.
('tube of crusting'? lol)
"Devon!" Sebastian protested, wiping furiously at the glob of frosting while his laughter bubbled up. "Fine, I guess I deserved that….hmph."
(…crap…)
Devon laughed once he did, turning back to give him a clearly unashamed smile. “Kinda,” she teased before going to back to frosting muffins.
(lol)
Sebastian stuck his tongue out in a rather petulant way, trying and failing to hold back laughter while he grabbed their plates.
Devon continued to giggle softly as she frosted muffins. When she finished, she turned to Sebastian and smiled. “They’re ready to be plated, now.”
Grinning, Sebastian lifted at least six muffins onto each of their plates and gestured to kitchen. "If the lady would seat herself, I could serve her."
"I'm hardly a lady, but thank you," Devon chuckled softly, making her way to the table. She sat down and looked up at Sebastian with a smile as she waited for him to set the plates down.
Sebastian set the plate in front of her with a dramatic flourish, seating himself a few paces away. “Bon appetit~”
"Are we going to race to see who can finish their's first?" Devon reminded him as she pulled her plate slightly closer to herself.
“Oh, definitely,” he chuckled, picking up a muffin. “Three… two… one… GO!”
Devon laughed before stuffing as much of a muffin into her mouth as she could. She would win this if at all possible, just to say she had.
Sebastian wolfed his first two muffins down in ten seconds flat, covering his mouth with a napkin as he reached for a third.
Devon raised her eyebrows at Sebastian. Maybe she wouldn't win this… But taking it slower might be to her advantage. What was that thing about the tortoise and the hare, again?
Sebastian wiggled his eyebrows teasingly, making sure to keep his mouth covered while he ate in case he disgusted her. Soon, there was only one muffin left on his plate.
Devon was finishing up her second to last muffin when she notices there was only one muffin left on either of their plates. He was going to win. It was more than likely, anyway.
Win or lose, she was still going to try. So, grinning around her last bite, she wallowed and shoved her last muffin in her mouth.
“Oh, no,” he muttered, grabbing his muffin soon after she did the same.
