Devon smiled softly and leaned into his touch. The spot on her forehead where he’d kissed her burned, but not in a bad way. He was slowly unraveling her, and she was starting to enjoy it.
His breath hitched as she leaned closer, and it was all he could do not to brush another gentle kiss across her forehead the second their heads pulled apart. He did kiss it again, eventually, warmth flooding him from head to toe.
Devon reluctantly pulled back, looking up at him with a small, soft smile.
“Thank you. For caring as much as you do,” she murmured, taking his hands again.
“You don’t need to thank me,” I told her quietly, “For something that comes to me as naturally as breathing. But you’re welcome, it’s my pleasure.”
(THEYRE GETTING CLOSER IM DYING)
Devon squeezed his hands gently before letting them go. She glanced at the time and sighed.
“I have to go pick Layla up soon, so I’m afraid I’m going to have to go,” she said, looking back up at him. “Unless… you’d like to come with?”
Sebastian’s eyes practically lit up like stars. “Could I come with? Is that alright with you?”
"Of course! I would love the company, and she would love to see you again," Devon said, grinning at his reaction.
"Great," he answered happily, the residual nausea from speaking with his mother washed completely away.
(Wanna skip to when they pick Layla up?)
(sure)
Devon pulled up to a fairly large house with a nice, snow-covered lawn. She parked in the driveway and paused for a moment, looking thoughtful. After a bit, she sighed and turned to Sebastian.
"I'll just be right back, okay?" she said, opening her door so she could step out.
Confusion flickered briefly over Sebastian's features, but he gave an understanding nod. "Sure."
Devon stepped out of the car and made her way up to the dark gray front door of the crisp, white house. She knocked, and a woman answered he door only moments later. Even from a distance, it was obvious who she was from how much she and Devon looked alike. And with Layla in her arms, it was like seeing triples.
Devon conversed with her mother for a moment before taking Layla from her. She nodded in response to something that was said, then turned and walked back to the car.
A huge grin broke through Sebastian's expression at the sight of both his miracle girls walking down the driveway towards him. He waved to Layla through the window, casting the woman at the front door of the house a brief glance.
Devon smiled back at Sebastian, looking a little tired even from the short conversation. Her mother always wore her out. They may have been alone in looks, but they were completely different in personalities, and that was cause for some major arguments. Thankfully, there hasn't been an argument today, but there has been a few questions that she didn't feel like answering.
After setting the little girl in the car seat, the young mother sat in her own seat, sighing as she did so. She rubbed at her eyes quickly before turning to Sebastian and Layla.
"Layla, dos you say hi to Sebastian, yet?" she asked her daughter with a small smile.
Layla grinned — bringing the smile back to her mother's face — and waves at her friend. "Hi, Bahstin! How you?"
"Hey, Layla," Sebastian cooed, reaching back to tickle beneath the little girl's chin. "I'm great, how are you?" It was astonishing, how differently he talked to babies– his voice softened, went a pitch higher.
Layla giggled and squirmed beneath his fingers, being rather ticklish there. Well… and everywhere, really.
"I good!" she bubbled when she managed to get away. "Mommy and Bahstin on date?"
Devon blushed at her daughter's words. She had told Layla about her dates with Sebastian, but she hadn't realized that she would pick up on the word, much less use them correctly…
Sebastian flushed, his cheeks turning the same colour as the sunset. "Um– Yeah. Yeah." He turned to face Devon, studying her for a moment. "You look worn out– do you feel alright?"
Devon blinked a couple of times and looked over at Sebastian. She gave him a small smile, nodding slowly.
"Yeah… Yeah, I'm okay. My mom just… She asks a lot of questions sometimes," she explained with a shrug.
Sebastian nodded in understanding. "Right. Get some rest tonight, okay? Relax, if you can."
"Sure. I'll do that," Devon agreed, smiling at him gratefully. "Now, are we all ready to go?"
“Yup.” Sebastian gave Layla’s nose one last boop before folding his hands in his lap.
(Skip to when they get to the apartment?)
