Fox narrowed his eyes for a moment. "Four years." he said slowly. So since he was sixteen. That was how long.
Fox narrowed his eyes for a moment. "Four years." he said slowly. So since he was sixteen. That was how long.
Elissa raised her eyebrows. Four years. Four years ago, she had been in high school, trying to avoid doing work as much as possible. She went to her grandmother’s every other day, learning self defense and watching television with the old woman. The thought made her emotional, and she did her best to hide the sudden lump in her throat. “Wow…that’s a while,” she managed.
Fox shrugged. "Not really. I'm still a baby in this business. Some of the old timers have been in the business thirty years. The Wolf was raised in it."
Raised to murder people. Elissa couldn’t even imagine it. “So kind of thing is all you’ve ever known?” she asked, trying to disguise her emotions with curiosity, though she still felt like crying. She didn’t think these people took well to emotion like that.
Fox frowned a little bit. "Me? Nah. Like I said, I've been in this for four years, not my whole life." he replied, shaking his head a little bit.
“What did you do before, then?” Elissa asked, trying to imagine him as a child. It shouldn’t have so difficult since he practically was a child at 20. She felt like a child too. So small and helpless here, her grandmother gone forever. In the blink of an eye, her inner monologue had become a droning of her sadness. She sighed.
"That's none of your business." Fox replied, taking a deep breath and letting it out again.
Elissa blinked, chastised. She didn’t say anything for a moment, lapsing into silence as she sat there with her thoughts. Maybe if she closed her eyes this would all be a very weird dream.
Fox stood, stalking to the door of his cell, then over to the window, looking outside. He was frowning, arms crossed across his chest.
Elissa's eyes followed him, her eyebrows scrunching together with confusion. "Is something happening?" she asked, still seated on the floor of the cell. She ran a hand through her mess of curls.
"No." Fox replied. "But something will." he cocked his head a little bit, red hair sticking up in messy tufts all over his head.
Elissa sighed, getting up as well. She was upset and her arm hurt like hell, but she wanted to know what was happening. Luckily her good arm was also her dominant one, so it didn’t take her too long to get up and go to the window to see.
It was Dmitri again, of course, arguing with a tall, darkhaired male. Their words weren't audible, but their expressions were obvious. Dmitri looked angry, and the other male looked…well. Also angry.
That didn’t really surprise Elissa much. “Hey, who’s the guy with the dark hair?” she asked Fox, studying the man to see if she could place him.
"My boyfriend." Fox replied after a moment. "Lynx." He kept his eyes on the pair, arms crossed loosely over his chest.
“Is the Wolf going to throw him in here too? Or do you think your boyfriend has enough sway to get you out?” she asked, trying and failing to read their lips. Elissa really should have practiced that more.
Fox shrugged. "Lynx isn't as high in the ranks as I am, for…a few reasons." he frowned a little bit. "He'll do his best, but…I don't think he'll get thrown in here, but he might not be able to get me out, either." he couldn't read lips either, but was doing his best to guess based on body language and previous knowledge.
“Hmm,” Elissa muttered, watching with interest. She couldn’t really tell whether it was going well or not for Fox. She could see their facial expressions decently well from where she was standing and she could guess from their body language, but she barely knew anything about these people, so that didn’t help.
Lynx turned a little bit, revealing that the right side of his face was scarred and damaged, his right eye clouded and blind. The scarring continued down his neck a bit, the scars bad enough that some of his hair couldn't grow on that side of his head.
Elissa bit her lip, shocked by the scars. She wanted to ask Fox what had happened, but despite her earlier nosiness, she figured that might some off as prying. Then again, these people were the ones who had locked her in a cell. She continued to do her best to figure out what was happening and whether Lynx was having any success getting his boyfriend out of the cell.
Lynx otherwise seemed fine, with brown hair and grey eyes. He didn't seem to be having any luck, though Wolf gestured towards the cell, shaking his head a little bit.
Elissa's eyes narrowed slightly. So it seemed as if this whole rescuing Fox thing was a no go. It shouldn't make a difference to her anyway, as he probably wanted to kill her and had killed her grandmother, or at least been part of the group who did. Not the first time she found herself wishing that this was all a dream.
Lynx came over, opening the door to Fox's cell and coming inside. Fox shot him a rueful smile. "You aren't in trouble, are you?"
Lynx shook his head. "Of course not, you dumbass."
Elissa glanced over, leaning against the wall in a half-hearted attempt to make it seem as if she wasn’t listening. Was Lynx actually going to get Fox out? Lucky them. She wondered again why she was here, and she hadn’t just gotten killed by Wolf.
"So…can I get out?" Fox asked, stepping into Lynx's arms. "Or…?"
"Well, you really fucking pissed him off, what the fuck do you think?" Lynx asked, wrapping his arms around Fox.
