"Oh…" Nathaniel paused before attempting to open the container of pills. By looking at the lid, he actually managed to do so rather quickly and stuck one in his mouth. While this is clearly a very stupid thing to do, he didn't know that. He just figured that 'hey, based on that description of the symptoms, it sounds like I have depsreshun, so maybe I should be taking this medicine too!'. Based on this very logical decision he made, it was clear that he did not know much of anything about depression, obviously, and he knew nothing about prescriptions.
Zedd stopped what he was doing only to proceed to start panicking. "NATHANIEL SPIT THAT OUT, DON'T SWALLOW," he nearly yelled, fear clear in his voice. "NATHANIEL IT'S NOT FOR KIDS, THERE'S ANOTHER KIND FOR THAT," the man quickly added, now scared that he'd have to take the angel to the hospital or something for consuming drugs that weren't his. And in a dose that was meant for someone almost double his size. He tore a piece of toilet paper off the roll that hung nearby and held it out so Nathaniel could spit out the pill before he could accidentally swallow it.
Nathaniel jumped when Zedd yelled at him and quickly spit out the pill, tears stinging his eyes. "I-I'm sorry! I'm sorry… I'm s… I'm s-so sorry…" He stammered apology after apology as he buried his face in Zedd's shoulder, crying softly. "I-I just thought I— I-I just— it sounded like I have w-what you were talking about, a-and I don't wanna be sick… I-I'm sorry, dad… p-please…" He clung tightly to Zedd, hoping that the man would forgive him. If this 'depetshin' thing was some sort of illness and it felt like he had it, he wanted to go away. So, naturally, taking the medicine that was supposedly for it seemed like a good idea at the time.
(I literally read 'depetshin' as deepshittin'- smh)
And Nathaniel wondered why he had beaten himself up so bad. Again, he started to gently pet Nathaniel to try and calm him down. "Nathaniel… I still had the meds out where you could reach them. I… I'd hate myself if I willingly let you get poisoned by taking that. The lid is specifically like that so you wouldn't be able to open it…" he argued, not bothering to correct the angel's mispronunciation of depression. "It's dad's fault again," he added with a dark chuckle.
(I also love how this rp is literally: ok how can we make them cry more-)
Nathaniel hiccuped a bit and clung to Zedd, his heart racing. "M'sorry, d-dad…" He stammered weakly. "Should… should I get the kid kind if I'm not allowed to have this kind…?" He asked, trying his best to keep his voice even. "Uhm… do I have the thing? How can you tell? Am I sick? I don't wanna be sick, dad…"
"Shh… I accept your apology. We're both a little upset right now, hm?" he asked rhetorically. Zedd thought a moment before replying to Nathaniel's questions. "Remember how I said we would take you to someone to talk to? Well… they would be able to tell you if you're depressed or not and order you your own medicine if you needed any," he explained. The more the man thought about it, he wondered if there were any kind of medications that could be taken at such a young age. "And again… either way, it's not a sickness. You'll be okay."
Nathaniel huddled up against Zedd's chest and listened to the man, hiccuping a bit. "W-Why do I have to go to somebody else?" He asked weakly. "Can't… c-can't you just tell me if I have it or not? You definitely have it, so that means you're an expert, right?"
Zedd couldn't help but laugh a bit. It wasn't appropriate, but it was funny to him that Nathaniel assumed he was an expert. "I'm really not. There are people who have proper education for that, whereas I don't. Sorry for laughing, but I'm not that smart," he said, returning to gently ruffling Nathaniel's hair.
Nathaniel flushed a bit and curled up closer to Zedd, clearly a bit embarrassed. "Oh… how do I talk to somebody who can tell me, then…?" He asked weakly. "I don't… I don't wanna be sick, dad… I want them to fix me and you so we can both be happy…" He sniffled a bit as he clung to the man.
Zedd frowned lightly. He hadn't meant to make Nathaniel feel embarrassed. This was serious and he had laughed… Well, at least neither of them were crying anymore. "You aren't sick, Nathaniel. We'll go whenever you're ready. It'll be okay…"
"O-Okay…" Nathaniel yawned weakly as he huddled closer to Zedd, clearly exhausted. It was the middle of the night and he'd been crying, after all, so he was completely drained. "Can we go back to bed now, dad…?" He asked, his voice weak and tired.
Zedd didn't reply, instead he stood slowly, still carrying Nathaniel, and walked back into his room. He felt physically and emotionally drained. He only just managed to set Nathaniel down before he fell dramatically onto the mattress. The man shut his eyes instantly, blindly pulling up the blankets. He moved to envelop Nathaniel in his grasp again. He wanted to know the boy would be there as he woke. If he had another dream, he'd see the other's sleeping form as soon as he opened his eyes. His wings draped protectively over the Nathaniel, chin resting on his head as well. "Mm… your parents must've been really stupid to get rid of you…" he muttered quietly before falling asleep.
Nathaniel flushed a bit, clearly taken aback, but too tired to really do much about it. He just purred weakly as he clung to Zedd, nuzzling his face into the man's chest. He curled up to be smaller so that Zedd could easily hold him close and folded his wings up against his back. Soon, once he'd gotten himself adequately comfortable, he drifted off to sleep in Zedd's arms.
(so i started re-reading this instead of reading my actual book and i'm dead because of when Nathaniel tried coffee-)
Zeddicus managed to sleep through the night fairly well due to how tired he was. It was later in the morning by the time Nathaniel would awaken, Zedd still entirely passed out. Upon using his magic, especially during such a bad emotional state, he would be worn out and sleep harder than normal. He hadn't set any sort of alarm last night, so it was up to the sun to wake either of them up.
Nathaniel stirred a bit before Zedd and yawned, looking up at Zedd's face sleepily. Upon noticing that the man was still with him and also still sleeping, he cocked his head to the side a bit, clearly curiously. It wasn't common for Zedd to not awaken before he did, after all, and it was interesting to see him asleep for once. He hesitated before starting to toy with Zedd's hair and wings since he wasn't awake to stop him.
Zedd's nose twitched as a strand of hair brushed against it, but kept still. Considering how hard he was sleeping, his wings also remained stationary. It was a rare chance for Nathaniel to continue what he was doing without it bothering the other.
Nathaniel smiled and stuck his tongue out a bit as he continued, curling a lock of Zedd's hair around his finger with a contented purr. He wrapped one of the man's wings around himself and trilled, seeming pleased. The soft feathers felt nice on his skin, and being all wrapped up like this made him feel safe and secure.
At being moved, said wing twitched a bit, but stayed where it had been placed. Zedd's hair was also a bit naturally messy, laying whichever way. As Nathaniel played with it, it held a loose coil hanging at his forehead.
After a while of fiddling with Zedd's hair and wings, Nathaniel started to grow uneasy. Shouldn't Zedd have woken up by now? It was unlike him to sleep so long, after all, and he wasn't exactly moving… "D-Dad…?" He asked nervously. No response, of course. "Dad?" He started shaking the man a bit and eventually had placed his small hands on his face. "Dad!"
