Cyrus crosses his arms at Resh. His words seem to barely faze him on the outside, but inside the cacophony of voices is near-unbearable. “And what exactly do you think is happening, Resh Corvus?”

@the-void-phantasmic language

Resh stares at Cyrus, fully aware that he’s getting to him. He slowly moves toward Cyrus until he’s only a few inches away from him. He waits a while before speaking in a quiet, eerily calm voice, to match his expression that’s now devoid of any emotion. “I know she’s in danger, Cyrus. And I know you have something to do with it.” He’s vague, but it seems like he’s already figured out more than just that. “So I’d strongly that suggest you stop lying to me. I’m not an idiot.” He puts on a sarcastic smile after his last sentence, tilting his head slightly.

Behind the group, the general noises of the crowd have all but disappeared. The military personnel seem to have moved everyone out, with certainly a bit of protest. They watch the five with a keen eye.

Cyrus slides a knife hidden in his sleeve into his hand, invisible to Resh. However definitely visible to anyone behind him. "And I suggest… that you mind your own business." Take your chance. Now. He tightens his grip on the knife and moves to stab Resh, aiming for the stomach.

@the-void-phantasmic language

Teth glances over and sees Cyrus with the knife. Fuck- Resh can’t see it. Teth immediately tries to warn Resh, raising her voice above Cyrus. “He has a knife!

Resh hears Teth’s warning and sidesteps just in time to dodge the knife, and before he knows it Cyrus has a sword pressed against his throat. “My deepest apologies, but I can’t do that.”

Teth snatches up the opportunity to try and get the girl away from Cyrus. She goes over to Tsadi and whispers something to him, and he simply nods as he takes out his spear. Teth rushes toward the girl, grabs her hand, and books it in a random direction, away from Cyrus and the others.

Daphne flinches when Teth grabs her hand. “Wait-“ Before she can say anything else, Teth is running away, holding Daphne’s hand. Daphne looks incredibly confused and scared.

Teth stops a safe distance away from the others, then turns to face the girl. “Look, I know you’ve never met me before, but you need to trust me. Okay?”

Daphne stares at Teth, processing her statement. This is bad. He’s gonna find me, and he’s gonna kill me. She simply nods, not sure what else to do.

Cyrus looks down at the sword, a smile on his face and a glint of insanity in his eyes. ”It seems I’ve underestimated you.” He certainly wasn’t expecting this. How exciting.

As if on cue, three of the soldiers surround Resh and Tsadi in a semi-circle formation, spears pointed directly at them. One of them speaks up. “Stand down. Or we will attack.” The fourth soldier follows Teth and Daphne through the city streets.

Behind Cyrus, a large figure with gleaming yellow eyes stalks towards him. The wolf.

@the-void-phantasmic language

Resh’s grip on his sword tightens. This was a terrible idea… shut up. Teth’s keeping the girl safe, and me and Tsadi can handle ourselves fine. Hopefully. “…You’re insane.” His voice wavers slightly as he says this.

Tsadi turns to face the soldiers, while Resh doesn’t move an inch. Tsadi grips his spear tightly and stares at the soldiers stubbornly. “Go on, then. Attack if you must.”

Teth looks up and sees one of the soldiers following them. “Fuck. Come on.” She starts running away again, keeping a tight hold on the girl’s hand.

Resh continues to stare at Cyrus, his breaths quickening ever so slightly. His eyes widen a bit when he notices the wolf behind Cyrus. Couldn't have come back at a better time.

@Morals-are-for-mortals language

The solder glares daggers at Tsadi from behind their mask. Without another word, they move in for the attack. Two attack him directly, and another moves to attack him from behind. (I know how spearfighting works 👍)

Cyrus tilts his head at Resh, which only presses the blade closer to his neck. He barely notices, staring Resh down. “You seem uneasy at the thought.” He still hasn’t let go of the knife in his hand, but he knows if he makes a move Resh can slit his throat in an instant.

The wolf jumps up from behind Cyrus, sinking their teeth into his shoulder and wrenching him down to the ground. Before Cyrus can react, the wolf is on top of him. They snarl and bare their teeth at him.

The soldier following Daphne and Teth spots them, chasing them down. “Hey, get back here!”

@the-void-phantasmic language

Resh growls at Cyrus, then abruptly stops as the wolf attacks Cyrus. He immediately steps back, turns around, and slashes at one of the soldiers attacking Tsadi.

Tsadi dodges one of the attacks, then turns around and blocks the other, all with surprising speed. He attacks the soldier that was behind him while Resh fights the other two. (Haha so do I 🙂)

Teth ignores the soldier that’s chasing them, and instead runs faster. She knows she can’t outrun the soldier, but she might as well try as long as she can.

Daphne doesn’t even protest against Teth running away with her. This is all too overwhelming, and Teth seems to want to keep Daphne safe, along with the other two. She keeps the same pace as Teth, keeping a good grip on her hand.

@Morals-are-for-mortals language

The first soldier that Resh slashes at blocks the first hit. The second soldier tries to land a hit on Resh with the blunted end of their spear.
The third soldier fighting Tsadi is holding his own, but on the defensive. It’s doubtful they’re able to keep this up for long.
The fourth soldier continues to follow Teth and Daphne, gaining on them.

As the wolf attacks Cyrus, he struggles against it. “Idiotic creature-“ He adjusts his grip on his knife and slashes the wolf across their lower left side. The wolf yelps in pain, but doesn’t relent in their attack. They bite his arm, sharp teeth drawing blood.

@the-void-phantasmic language

Resh growls loudly, blocking the second soldier’s attack and attempting to run them through.

Tsadi relentlessly continues fighting the third soldier, showing absolutely no sign of giving up.

Teth and Daphne continue running, but Daphne ends up tripping over her own feet. Daphne yelps and falls to the ground. Teth immediately kneels down next to Daphne to help her up, but she looks up and notices that the fourth soldier’s probably gonna catch them now. Teth and Daphne both scramble to their feet and try to keep running anyway.

@Morals-are-for-mortals language

The second soldier is too slow to dodge the attack. They look at Resh with terror in the eyes behind their mask, before slumping over lifelessly.
The first soldier takes the opportunity to land a hit on Resh. They slash at him while his sword is still in the second soldier’s body. They take a swift step back, willing themselves not to look at the body of their fallen comrade and instead focusing on Resh.

The fourth soldier catches up to them fairly quick after the fall, cornering them. They aim their spear at Teth. “What are your intentions with the Queen?”

Cyrus grits his teeth and throws the wolf to the ground on their injured side. He wrenches his arm out of their mouth in the process, making the resulting wound worse. The wolf just lays there, and doesn’t get up.

@the-void-phantasmic language

Resh seems to have little reaction to being hit, other than gritting his teeth and cursing in a foreign language. He pulls his sword out of the second soldier’s lifeless body, then turns and attacks the first one.

Teth freezes, staring at the soldier. Wait- did they say queen? She stays silent for a few moments, then takes a deep breath and speaks in a shaky voice. “We- we had reason to believe that she was in danger. She looked scared, and we stuck our noses in someone else’s business. When the fighting broke out, I just wanted to get her away from it.” She glances over at Daphne, who’s as stiff as a board. “…I had no idea she’s a queen. She’s so young…” She gives Daphne a sympathetic look.

Daphne shakes her head and speaks up. “I’m fine. She doesn’t mean any harm.” Please don’t kill her.

@Morals-are-for-mortals language

Cyrus stands up, bloody and angry. He grabs the spear of the fallen soldier and rushes Resh as he goes to attack the first soldier.
The first soldier is barely holding up against Resh, unable to match his speed.

The third soldier’s attacks become more desperate against Tsadi. They’re losing, and they know it.

The fourth soldier hesitates for a moment, before lowering their spear. “Yes, my queen.” They glance behind them for a couple seconds, making sure no one’s followed them. They return their attention to Teth. “Then I suggest you keep running. If Prince Cyrus gets the chance, the entire realm will be filled with search parties looking for you and your friends.”

@the-void-phantasmic language

Resh glances at Cyrus and dodges his attack, then takes a few steps backwards. He holds his sword out in front of him, breathing heavily. I’m getting too old for this. He looks between Cyrus and the first soldier, then looks over at Tsadi fighting the third soldier. He grips his sword tightly and squeezes his eyes shut. Suddenly, there’s a blinding flash of light, centered around Resh. This should distract them… if not, that’s a lot of wasted energy.

Teth sighs, then mumbles under her breath. “Figures he’d do that… fucking psychopath.” She looks up at the fourth soldier and nods. “Thank you.” She looks at Daphne and offers her hand, and they both take off running again.

(For the light thing think Flash-Bang But Cooler™️)

@Morals-are-for-mortals language

Cyrus and the first soldier close their eyes and move back a couple steps. The light is terribly blinding, even for them. However, Cyrus sees this as a way out. He yells a command to the first soldier and they take off in flight.

The third soldier gets disoriented by the light as well, and they don’t acknowledge their fellow soldiers leaving. They’re disoriented enough for Tsadi to land a decisive blow.

The fourth soldier watches them leave, before turning and running back to the fight. Were they going to get back in time? (hint: lol no)

@the-void-phantasmic language

Tsadi gets blinded by the light as well, but he’s fought under these circumstances plenty of times before. Resh always used this when he was overwhelmed and needed a distraction. He takes the chance to impale the third soldier with his spear.

The light fades as quickly as it arrived, and Resh is now kneeling on the ground, exhausted. He slowly lifts his head and looks around. “Good… it worked…” He lowers his head again, catching his breath.

Tsadi shakes his head, then looks over at Resh. “…You good?” He already knows that it wasn’t exhausting using that much energy, but Resh looks a little too exhausted.

Resh nods. “I’m fine… just need to… catch my breath…”

Tsadi tilts his head, slightly skeptical of Resh’s answer. “Well, once you do that, we need to look for Teth. And that girl she ran off with.”

(I think I accidentally made Tsadi less of a jackass oops)
