She smiled and blushed, starting to pet Miles' fur softly. She hummed and let him sleep, figuring he would want to wake up on his own.
Miles came out of his deep sleep, but didn’t open his eyes. “I have no idea how long I’m gonna be like this….” He mumbled lowly. “As long as that wound is open and still injured, I’m still gonna be a wolf….” Because if I transform while that wound is open…. that’d cause more pain than anyone could imagine, or even experience….
"The ointment I bought should help," She replied softly, "It might sting when it is on your wound, but it'll help heal that faster." She looked down at him and continued to smile, "Do you like being a wolf?" She asked, quite curious.
“Well….. I mean….” He paused. “Being all large and furry is hard to hide from people who would kill you upon sight…. and the hangovers are awful if you don’t sleep enough…. But otherwise it’s alright. Keeping warm is easy…. hunting is a bit easier with heightened smell, hearing and sight….” Miles shrugged. “It’s okay, I guess….” Unsure why she’s asking though…..
She nodded, "I think it'd be kinda cool to be able to be a wolf.." She looked around the room and laid back on the bed, putting her arms behind her head.
“But not when people are constantly hunting you and when you get hangovers for not getting enough sleep after dawn transformation…..” Miles muttered under his breath, his stomach growling in the middle of his sentence.
"Are you hungry?" She asked, sitting back up, "I bought you some meat." She smiled and glanced at where she had set it, stretching over to grab it. She barely reached it and picked it up, sitting back up and holding it out for him.
“Ooooooh yes, thank you…..” He took his paws out from under the blanket and grabbed the meat greedily, chomping on it over the edge of the bed. “Do you want any? Not any from mine, of course….” Miles added sheepishly.
She shook her head, "I'll get something when we get to the next town." She watched him eat and smiled, "Did I buy a good cut of meat? I didn't know what to get."
"Anything goes," He said between scarfing and chomping. "As long as it isn't all covered in grizzle or fat…." That's usually where meat goes wrong… He thought, eating his way to the bone. Soon he was just gnawing on it, picking off the small pieces with his teeth. Damn this is always so good…. "It seems like you don't know what to get, but you actually do every time…"
"I just go with what my gut is telling me." She said, spinning slightly so that her legs were over the edge of the bed. He started swinging her legs and looking back at him, "Are we going to stay here for a while? Can I rest a little?"
"We're staying here overnight," Miles glanced back, meeting her eyes. "Do you think we were only gonna stay here for a few hours????….. My foot can't take that much, you know…." He cleaned the bone completely and set it carefully on the floor. "But I too could also use another nap," He said, grinning sheepishly.
She nodded, "I figured we were staying the night, but I didn't know for sure." She swung her legs back onto the bed and laid back, propping herself up on her elbows, "Do you need anything else before I go to sleep?"
"Not really…." He licked his chops and got himself all the way on the bed and curled up next to her, snuggling up against her. "I'm just ready for another nap right now…."
Emmeline laid all the way down, nodding slightly, "Alright," She said, snuggling next to him as well and closing her eyes, "Where's that blanket?" She asked, opening one eye and looking for it.
Miles tossed half of it over her. "Quit stressing…. It's right here….." He yawned, his ears twitching. Ahh… Finally…. Some good sleep…. He thought nicely, snuggling against her to keep her warm. "And remember, I'm here to keep you warm, too…."
She smiled lightly and curled into a loose ball, keeping next to Miles. "Alright," She mumbled, tugging the blanket around herself and closing her eyes again.
Miles sighed, and unvoluntarily began to talk. "I have a question for you….." His tail tapped the bed lightly. "How come you waited so long to tell me that you liked me…?"
"I don't know.." She felt her face heat up and she shrugged, "At first I thought I liked you because you had given me a place to stay..then I knew it wasn't that but I kept quiet, not wanting to seem like I was just saying it so I could stay longer..I figured that if I told you and then left, that it wouldn't seem as weird to tell the person that just gave you a home for forever that you liked them."
"….Yet you ended up staying with me anyways…." He said, resting his eyes. "Now what do you have to say?" That you take it back?
The blanket suddenly seemed like a great place to hide and she tugged it over her head, "Sorry? I should've told you sooner.." She mumbled, her face still bright red.
"Well, I mean…." He let out a sigh. "I'm not trying to be pushy…. But… I…. Honestly….." Miles' ears flicked, and his cheeks burned under his fur. "You told me something I've never had the guts to tell anyone, let alone you…."
Her head popped out from under the blanket and she looked at him, "Wait…" Her face flushed even more and her neck turned red as well, "You..like me?" She said the last part quite softly, not quite sure if it was true or not.
"Of course I do….." He said, trying to hide that shame in his voice. "You were willing to take care of me when I couldn't do it for myself… You didn't leave just out of pure boredom or whatnot…. You helped me escape and hide me from the public…" He nuzzled into her. "There's nothing I could possibly want from a girl like you, Emmiline…."
She squeaked quietly and smiled, just taking in what he said. "You like me.." She whispered mostly to herself, snuggling closer to him and humming softly.
