Emmeline walked through the small and dirty alleyway as fast as she could, happy to be out of that place as she came out on the main road though the city. "C'mon Em," She muttered to herself, brushing off her shirt and pants before mustering up the courage to buy a small loaf of bread from the local bakery. The bakery was quite small but it was well kept, making it feel cozy inside. Her fingers closed around the few stolen coins she had taken and she tried to look as presentable as possible as she waited to ask for bread. "Even a stale or burnt loaf will do," She mumbled as she waited.
(Oof stale sounds nasty, lol.)
Miles was wandering down the stone path up into a town nearby. Maybe I can find some way to get some money around here…. He fingered through the chains of stolen necklaces and lockets in his pocket. He sat down on a cobblestone planter in the town and took everything out for showcase. They should start rolling in any minute now…
She sighed and shook her head when she finally reached the counter, seeing that there was no bread left. Her heart sank a little as she trudged back outside, her hand still closed tightly around the few coins. The street was bustling with people, making it easy for her to slip into the crowd while she looked for a good place to beg for food.
Miles had a good stream of people, and they were all admiring his impressive 'collection' of lockets and stuff.
Men and women came from all around, but only very few had enough gold to buy one or two.
Sooner or later, he was alone, and only a few passerbys caught a glimpse of them before going on with their lives. I think it's almost time to move on again… He folded his arms and crossed his legs, feeling his coin bag shift on his hip next to him.
Emmeline looked around and smiled as she saw a vendor selling lockets and other trinkets. "Jackpot.." She muttered, making her way towards the guy at the stand but trying not to make it obvious of what she was about to do. She looked around and kicked at the ground with her bare feet, only a few feet away from the lockets at this point. Her hand tapped against her leg and she took a step closer to the stand, hiding a smile when she was within an arms length of them.
Miles clearly saw the girl, and he pulled his dagger out, but didn't point it at her aggressively. …I hope she knows I can see her clearly…. He stood there and just watched her try so hard to be sneaky.

As soon as he pulled the dagger out Emmeline sighed and shook her head, deciding that the needed to try to grab a locket now or never. She dashed forwards as quick as she could, just able to get her hand around one of them before she started to run.
Miles lept forward and caught her before she got too far, pulling her into a valley in a choke hold and the dagger to her throat. He clicked his tongue. "How unfortunate. It looks like you just got caught, huh?…. Well, I'm gonna need that back…. Or someone's gonna get hurt. And it ain't gonna be me." He growled.
"I need food," She squeaked, trying her best to escape. "And this locket is going to help me pay for it," She grabbed at his arm and quickly looped the locket and its chain over her arm so she could try to grab the dagger.
"Well then it looks like you're outta luck from me," He snarled, tightening his grip on her neck. "Now I'd like to have that back…."
You have plenty more…. You'll probably get more later anyways, why are you bugging about one that probably isn't worth that much?….
He grinned. "Have it your way then." Miles tugged his dagger out fast. "Just don't expect much out of it."
Emmeline nodded slightly "I'm sorry for stealing it but I really do need food," she pulled the locket off her arm and held it tightly in her hand, her body shaking slightly as she yelled at herself internally.
"…I'll let it slide this time…." Miles growled, but forced up a smirk. "But if you're gonna steal from people, you have to do it the right way."
"I don't like stealing from others but I need to to live," Her eyes focused on the locket in her hand before looking up at him. "How do you steal the right way?"
"Easy." He shrugged. "You just have to break into peoples houses while they're asleep. And just take hidden stuff like things in jewelry boxes. By the time they find out, you'll already be long gone." That's the way I do it anyways…. Not sure if she knows how to pickpocket people quite yet…
She nodded slightly, "How do you get in?" She asked "I'm not the best at sneaking around and I always feel bad about taking even a few coins from someone."
Miles leaned back on the wall and let out a long sigh. "You have to use like a lock pick or something and use it on the lock to open the door without actually using a key." You're giving away all your secrets! He told himself. Yeah, but who cares…?
"Where do I get one of those?" Emmeline asked, focusing on the locket and studying the chain and designs carefully. Her stomach growled and she coughed to cover it up, forcing a small smile.
"You mean lock picks?" He shifted around a little. "Well, they can literally be anything, usually bobby pins or something, but the ones I use are made of a thin metal… Where you get them? There isn't really any specific place to get them, but they're usually just…. Lying around." I actually have no clue…
She nodded "Oh…ok," She sucked in a small breath and held out the locket, knowing she was probably going to regret this "Here..you can have it, sorry."
"What??? You went through all that trouble just to give it back?" Miles took it nonetheless and put it back with all the other ones he had. "If you insist…" He shrugged. "Just saying though – you ain't gonna be able to steal stuff when you stand out like a stain on a white shirt." And he sauntered off. So… What the hell did she want then?
"Stupid stupid stupid stupid." She muttered to herself, shaking her head as she walked off. The town was quiet now, most people already inside their homes or in the tavern drinking. She walked down the main street until she got back to the bakery, sitting by the door to wait until it opened in the morning again. "Why did you do that?" She asked herself, shaking her head again.
Miles walked off to a somewhat nice place to eat, using his good gold to buy himself some bread and soup. That girl looked really down in the dirt. She stole that as a necessity…. He finished up and got some bread that he got. Yet is she still around here?? Miles got out and saw that girl sitting in front of the bakery.
"What is she waiting for? Christmas?" He chuckled to himself, walking on over and holding it out to her without saying a word.
Emmeline looked up at the guy from before, seeing that he was holding out some bread to her. "Thanks," She said softly, quickly taking it and giving him a light smile. The bread smelled amazing and her stomach growled as she broke off a small piece and ate it quickly.
"You're welcome…." He said to her. She needs it. Yet she could learn how to steal. "Do you have a place to stay for the night?"
She patted the ground next to herself "Right here, like always," She continued eating the bread, trying not to eat it all at once.
