A few minutes later, they packed up and walked away. Lily waited until she knew they had fully left before kicking the door open and dropping onto the sand. "Oh thank the Lord, I think I stopped breathing for like two minutes."
A few minutes later, they packed up and walked away. Lily waited until she knew they had fully left before kicking the door open and dropping onto the sand. "Oh thank the Lord, I think I stopped breathing for like two minutes."
Kai grabbed the door frame to keep from falling next to her. "You really couldn't have thought of anything else?" There was an edge to his voice, almost like he couldn't decide if he was stressed or pissed. "God I thought we where gonna get caught." He sank down to the sand, a bit of a shake taking over his body.
"Listen, we didn't have the time to run and it the only thing I could think of. And hey, it worked, didn't it?" She huffed, looking up at him. However something in her chest wouldn't let her relax, some part of her that had fun being stuck in that tiny space on the verge of being caught.
Kai shook his head. She was right, it had worked. And if he was completely honest it was almost fun. "Well let's never do that again." But if they continued on this path, something told Kai that it might. And if it did, would he really be down to stop it? He'd had fun watching her fix her friends board, then surf. He'd had fun giving her a ride here. It was thrilling doing something he knew he wasn't supposed to.
"Yeah, I don't intend on continuing this weird Romeo and Juliet act so you don't have to worry." But some part of her wished she would. And it shocked her that she wasn't all that opposed to it. It was exciting to break the rules.
Kai stood and dusted himself off. He grabbed his jacket and tucked it under his arm before holding a hand out to Lily. "Well I think I've had enough excitement for one day. Do you need a ride or are you gonna stay out and surf some more?" The sky was already darkening, and if she decided to stay out longer Kai didn't know if he would be completely okay with that. The thought of something happening after he left made him nervous.
"Well considering my board has already been put away and locked up, I think my decision has been made for me." She took Kai's hand and pulled herself to her feet. "And I'm sorry about earlier. I could tell you were uncomfortable but there wasn't much I could do about it."
"Its fine. Who wouldn't be totally uncomfortable in that tight of a space." Especially with the person you're supposed to hate. But he didn't add that part. It would have made things a little awkward.
Kai hadn't quite let go of lily's hand, and had led her back to his bike. He handed her the helmet once again. "Where too?"
She pushed the helmet back towards him with a shake of her head. "I'll just get the bus home. The bus stop isn't too far of a walk from here. Besides, my parents will question if you're the one who drives me home and I'm sure yours must be worried sick about you. So thanks but I'll be fine."
"I'm gotta give them time to cool off. I'll be heading to a friend's for the night." Kai put his helmet and jacket on. "You sure you'll be okay?"
"Hey, if you don't hear from me tomorrow, look for my body in the ocean." She giggled. "But yes, I'm sure. Don't worry about me, you have a girlfriend for that."
Kai nodded his head, "yeah well she's not talking to me. Again" he actually had no idea what Lauren did when she was ignoring him. He really tried not to think about it. "I'll see ya around. And again, sorry about your nose."
"Stop apologizing, you're supposed to hate me." She laughed and started towards the bus stop. "I'll see ya around, Kai."
"In that case I hope you trip and fall on your way to the bus stop." Kai called after her, a smile on his face. He put the keys in the ignition and started up his motorbike. He started with a rumble that always made Kai excited. Before leaving he pulled out his phone looking for an text from Eithan. Most where from his mom and dad. A few from Blue offering to come get him if he was stuck anywhere, and surprisingly one from Lauren. Kai figured if she'd text him then maybe it was safe to head over to her place. Her parents where pretty fond of him anyways.
Lily made her way to the bus stop, dropping onto the bench and staring up at the sky to watch the sunset as she waited.
(Do we wanna do a time skip to like the next day, or maybe next few days?)
(We can skip a few days, maybe after they've both had a little bit of a chance to think about what happened?)
(Sounds good to me!)
Kai surprisingly hadn't been grounded by Katie, especially after he'd explained what actually happened. Granted he'd felt out atleast few details. Like that Lily was a surfer, and that he'd hung out with her afterwards.
He'd explained it as an accident and swor that he would stay out of trouble. Staying out of trouble was the last thing he was doing.
Kai hadn't been able to stop thinking about the whole situation those pasr few days. He'd done well of keeping up his reputation at school. Hanging out with his gang, being late to classes, and being with Lauren about as much as he could.
But his thoughts always dragged back to Lily. He didn't really know how he felt about it all. But being enemies felt almost wrong.
Lily hadn't been in school for the past couple days. Her parents had freaked out when she came home late with her face beaten up and so they had taken her to the doctor and forbid her from going to school until she healed.
And as she laid in bed, finishing the homework her teachers had given online, her thoughts kept wandering back to that afternoon with Kai. She was supposed to hate him, so why did actually hating him feel so wrong?
Without Lily there, things actually felt chaotic. She had been the peace keeper for so long. Kai was constantly dogging fights. Maiking quick escapes when they started, even when there where just verbal. He wasnt taking any chances.
And finally Kai had had enough, so in the least creepy way possible he easy dropped on her friends conversations to find out where she lived. He came knocking at her door later that day.
And who opened the door wasn't Lily but her younger brother Ethan who was home from school since he ran out of his ADHD medication. He looked very confused at Kai. "Who are you?"
"A friend of your sisters. Is she home by chance?" Kai didn't know she had a little brother. He'd expected her parents or her to open the door.
"Ethan? Who's at the door?" Lily came downstairs, still dressed in her pajamas which consisted of a slightly too small tank top and short pajama shorts. "I don't know, do you know him?" Lily looked up and froze. "Kai? What are you doing here?"
Kai hadn't thought this through. Part of him wanted to make sure she was okay, the other part wanted to know why she'd been absent for so long.
He ignored her question and asked one of his own, "where have you been?"
"Um, here. Obviously. Recovering." Lily touched her now freshly bandaged nose. "My parents freaked out when I got home late looking like a just got in a fist fight so they rushed me to the ER and have forbidden me from going to school until I heal." She crossed her arms over her chest with a raised eyebrow. "Now that I've answered your question, you answer mine."
