"What, this old thing?" He touched her bandaged nose with a sarcastic smile. "It's fine, just a fracture. Can't say I'm not going to get an earful when I get home but it's whatever." She shrugged. "And I really shouldn't have said what I did. I crossed a line. I'd be just as pissed as you were if someone insulted my family. But emotions ran high and I said something I knew would hurt."
Kai nodded his head, a half smile coming to his face. He was in fact still pissed. But her joke was atleast kinda funny. "Its fine. thanks for the apology. But your face- nose. How upset are your folks gonna be?" As much as he seemed to hate her at school, he didn't want to get anyone in trouble at home.
"Depending on if my mom's home and if she isn't, how long I have to come up with a believable lie, a lot. She knows about this whole…thing going on and she doesn't like it." Lily sighed, tugging at her necklace. "Dad will be more worried than mad but he'll still be upset that something happened."
"Why don't you just tell them the truth?" Kai looked down at his phone. Yet another call was coming in form Katie, and for what surely wasn't the last time, he hit decline. "My parent's already know, it's not like they're not already expecting an angry call from yours." Kai would be lucky if they only grounded him at this point.
"Because you don't deserve to get in even more trouble when I said what I did. I'd just feel guilty. And if I did, they might pull me out of a big competition I have in a couple weeks. It's the regional semi-finals, I can't just miss it."
"Oh dang, I guess that is big. I'd be pretty upset if Katie took me out of something like that." Granted all he ever did was bike, race from time to time, but nothing big. Just with friends and the gang. "Good luck?"
She couldn't help but laugh a little. "Thanks. But I hope I won't need it." Her eyes went from Kai to the bike next to him. "You know, I've really got to ask, did you build that yourself or did you get it? I've always been curious."
"I got that thing from a junk yard, Rollo helped me fix it up. Runs better then anything bought off the lot." Kai jumped to his feet like an excited little kid. "He used to ride before he married Katie. She said it would be the death of him, I think he's a little glad atleast one of his kids ended up liking motorcycles. I guess it's kinda like passing it down."
"Have you been riding for long? Well, I guess that's kind of a stupid question considering you probably haven't had a license for very long." A pink tint covered her cheeks as she realized the stupidity of her question.
Kai laughed, "gonna be upset if I say I've been ridding since before my license? And yes, my dad came pretty close to murdering me when he found out. But I'm pretty good." He grabbed his helmet and offered it to her. It felt wrong doing this, like he was cheating on his whole gang. "I'd love to prove it, Ya'know, just so you can't tell everyone the bikes just for show."
She nearly hesitated. It felt off, like she was betraying her friends but decided to go for it anyway. Lily took the helmet with a half smile. "Alright tough guy, let's see what you've got."
Kai hopped on the motorbike and kicked the kick stand up. He expected her to deny him and immediately tell all her friends what a loser he was for even asking. They where enemies, but right now it almost felt like they where friends.
Kai pushed whatever warm fuzziness he had about it away. They would still be enemies after this, atleast thats what he told himself. "And where shall we be riding too?"

She clipped on the helmet and awkwardly climbed on behind him. "To the beach. Someone needs to redo Kasey's board and I'll feel better if I can catch a few waves myself."

Kai looked over his shoulder at her, "what happened to your friends board?" He didn't bother waiting for a response before taking off. They'd just have to shout over the wind in their ears if they wanted any chance of a conversation while on the bike.
She yelped in surprise and nearly flung her arms around his waist to keep from falling. "She put on fresh wax this weekend, went back this morning to check on it and found it all scratched up. Having wax on properly is really important so it means she can't surf until she redoes it."
"Crud, hold on." He warned. Kai hadn't actually thought this through. If anyone saw them he was totally screwed.
"Know who did it?" He was worried it would be someone he knew. And if that was the case what was he supposed to do? Scold them maybe? Of course then they'd consider him weak.
"Who do you think it is? Kasey saw Lauren leaving the beach and then saw her board. No one else would have a motive like she would. I know you love your girlfriend but that was a real bitch move." Lily scoffed with a roll of her eyes.
"I'll ask her if she did." Kai didn't want to believe the worst. Lauren wasn't like that, atleast he didn't think she was.
The school was close enough to the beach that they where there in no time. Kai parked as close as he could get without worrying about sand getting all over his motorbike. He kicked the kick stand back into place. "If Lauren is responsible I'm sorry."
"Don't apologize, it's not your fault." She left the helmet with his bike and started towards the board shed on the beach.
Kai followed after, for some reason. "Well then consider it a apology for whatever you'd like that is my fault." He'd already taken his jacket off. Wearing it on the beach was practically a death wish.
Lily waved him off, unlocking he shed and pulling out two boards, a scratched looking pink one with flowers on it and a plain blue and white one. "Oh no, poor Kasey." Lily sighed, setting the scratched board down and grabbing a bag from inside the shed that had all the materials she would need.
"Oh dang, that looks bad." He didn't really know what he'd been expecting when Lily had told him it was scratched. Maybe something a little less extreme. But knowing Lauren and her jealousy, he should have expected something like this.
"I can fix this, don't worry. Here, you can hold this while I fix. It's the least you could do." She took out the basic materials and dropped the bag in Kai's lap before getting started, falling silent as she worked.
Kai nodded his head and watched her work. He liked watching people work on things.
Usually he watched Lauren tampering with her bike, or Eithan putting together mini figures and painting them. Of course sooner or later Lauren would start pouting about something and Kai would come and fix it for her. Eithan on the other hand wasnt to found of just been watched. He had told Kai it was creepy on several occasions.
Lily didn't mind being watched, mostly because she was too lost in her own world to notice it.
She worked methodically, using careful precision and taking great caution as to not damage the board. After about 20 minutes, she sat back, smiling at her work in the now fully restored board. "There. That's better."
