"Wow," he couldn't even tell that the board had been scratched previously. "That was freaking awesome. Your friends must think you're an angel for fixing their stuff like this." The compliment felt weird to say aloud.
"Wow," he couldn't even tell that the board had been scratched previously. "That was freaking awesome. Your friends must think you're an angel for fixing their stuff like this." The compliment felt weird to say aloud.
"Oh please, I'm no angel. I just want to help out, that's all." She shrugged, hoping she wasn't blushing too hard from the compliment. "Now then, you've showed off your skill, wanna see mine?"
Kai grinned, "hell yeah." Even though he was supposed to hate the surfers, he still liked watching them surf. He'd been told once that it was like skate boarding. But after watching Blue take surf lessons forever ago, He'd learned it was nothing like skateboarding at all.
"Great. You stay here, I'll be back in five." She took off to the changing rooms and came back a few minutes later in a short wetsuit. "Technically I only wear this for competitions but I don't need you to have more blackmail material." She flicked his forehead with a giggle and grabbed her board, heading towards the water.
Kai rubbed his forehead. "Jeez, I'll deny that any of this ever happened if that makes you feel any better. Zero blackmail." He chuckled. Though if he really tried he was sure he could find at least something to make fun of.
She waved off his comment, making her way into the water. It took her a few minutes to get set up but once she did, the show began. Lily fell into a kind of trance when she surfed, it was just her and the water. She added in a few tricks as she did, as was typical of any routine she did.
Kai watched is awe. He'd never taken the time to watch anyone actually surf. Sure there'd been the time Blue had taken lessons. But They'd never been out in the waves the way Lily was now.
Kai was tempted to ask if he could come to her tournament.
She stayed out on the waves for a few more minutes, practicing a couple of her more complicated tricks before coming back to shore. "There. Now you know why I care so much about my sport." She laughed.
"Awe man, I guess I can never call you a wannabe again." He laughed too. "I don't know how you do it. I'd be to scared a shark is waiting to eat me."
"You know, that stereotype isn't actually true. Sharks don't usually attack people and even then, it's actually kind of hard for them to seeing as how far their mouth is from the tip of their nose." Lily shook her head, blushing pink. "Sorry, I'm ranting again. You probably don't even care."
"Oh no thats great info, doesn't change the fact I'm still scared of them." Kai gave a bit of am awkward smile. "Don't tell anyone I said that. With my luck someone might hire a shark to flop on land just to find me and hunt me down." He shrugged and laughed again.
Lily rolled her eyes with a smile. "So, that's me. School and surfing, that's pretty much it. Keeps my schedule pretty full."
"I can see why it takes up so much of your time. Its gotta take alot to learn how to surf. Biking is probably alot easier. It's just like driving, nothing to it really." Kai nodded his head as he spoke
"Well, I can imagine that-" Lily cut herself off, her head snapping up at the sound of voices. "Oh shit, no no no." Coming down to the beach was none other than her friends. Before she could think, she grabbed Kai's hand and pulled him into the maintenance shed next to the board shed. She slammed the door shut, sighing in relief.
It was only after this did she realize what a tight squeeze it was. The shed was pretty small and the only way for her to stand comfortably was to literally press against Kai like a can of sardines. Just her luck.
Kai's face bloomed a brilliant red at the closeness. He hadn't even seen her friends coming and frankly, was quite confused as to what exactly just happened. "Care to explain?" He asked in a bit of a hiss. He didn't quite make a reach for the door just yet, but was pretty tempted to.
"Shh!" She hissed, pressing her ear to the door to listen. Their voices came closer, reassuring Kasey they could fix it. By "it", they probably meant her board and Lily let our a silent breath. Well at least they wouldn't be staying for long.
Kai wanted nothing more than to get out of that small shed. If anyone opened that door they where both totally screwed. Word would get back to Eithan, not to mention Lauren, and she'd probably brake up with him for good. He was already in the dog house with her, he didn't need anymore reasons for her to be mad at him.
Lily followed their voices, absentmindedly pressing more into Kai's chest as she did so. At this point, she was barely breathing, pushing herself up onto her toes to be able to hear better. They had no reason to go into the maintenance shed so as long as they were quiet, they'd probably be okay.
Kai was also hardly breathing. He was all to aware of just how close Lily was now, and strangely enough part of him kinda okay with it. But it also felt insanely wrong. "Do you mind?" Kai was pushing himself as far back as he could now. It was almost more uncomfortable than being so close to Lily. A shelf was blocking him from going any further back, not to mention all the other things that where pressing into his back and side.
"I do mind, actually. But unless you want to get discovered by the girls that hate you, you'll stay still and shut up." She hissed, hoping he couldn't see how hard she was blushing as she realized just how close they were.
At that he shut up. Hadn't he signed up for something like this happening the second he offered to give her a ride? It was dangerous and he knew that. Now they where only paying the price for being so stupid.
Kai looked down, and in the dimness he could see the redness of her face. Sure his mirrored the color, but he still found it atleast a little funny.
Their voices passed by the shed and Lily felt like she could relax a little. She rested his head on Kai's chest, trying to remind herself how to breathe. Once they realized the board was finally fixed, they would pack up and go home and then they could both get out of here and forget this ever happened.
Seconds dragged out and felt much longer then they should of. Had it even been five minutes yet? Or was he just being overly dramatic and it'd been much longer. Kai had to relax a little to keep from getting a bruise from the shelves behind him. There really wasn't much point in trying to get so far away in such a small place.
Her hand subconsciously tapped out his heartbeat on his side. It was a habit she had since she was young it helped to calm her. She listened to the confusion of her friends when they found Kasey's board fixed and Lily's board abandoned but figured they'd ask later.
Kai couldn't tell who was freaking out more. Him, who still wasn't fully breathing and was starting to sweat. Or Lily who was tapping his side.
Small places already made him uncomfortable as it was. But being so close to someone else made it feel even smaller. .
