(Alrighty!)
There was a knock on the door, and Ellis answered it, smoothing his hands on his apron to wipe away any dirt. He had been mopping the floor of the hall, and dirt had smudged his face, hands, and knees.
"I have a message for Anton Tremaine." the messenger said, holding out an envelope emblazoned with the kings' seal.
Ellis nodded, taking the envelope carefully. "Alright. I shall take it to him. Do you require an answer right now?" he asked, holding the envelope and hoping he wasn't getting dirt on it. God knew that Anton would hit him if he got dirt on such a missive.
"No, though a reply within the week is preferable." the messenger bowed, and left.
Ellis headed back inside, going up the stairs to where Anton was studying. His older stepbrother was working on his schooling. Was going to get some sort of useless degree that he would just use to impress people. Ellis would have given anything just to be able to go to college. He opened the door, chewing on his lip. "Anton? There's a–"
"Ellis! I've told you not to interrupt me when I'm studying!" Anton snapped, interrupting Ellis's words.
Ellis nodded a little bit. "Right, but…I've got a message for you. From the king." he held it out, avoiding Anton's eyes.
Anton stalked over, snatching it from Ellis's fingers as if afraid that Ellis would damage it. "God, you've gotten your filthy fingers all over it, haven't you?" he said. Ellis didn't answer, merely looked down at his feet, at the worn leather shoes he had owned for three years now. "Well. You're dismissed." Anton waved a hand at Ellis, sitting down.
Ellis nodded again, and left. As he closed the door, he heard Anton's shout of surprise, and was nearly knocked over as Anton came running out to tell Lord Tremaine the news.
