Mia offered a weak smile, moving a bit closer with a nod.
Simon stayed close to her, turning his attention back to the movie.
Mia turned her attention back as well, fiddling with her fingers some as Mulan was thrown out of the army for being a woman.
“This part is depressing…” he mumbled, of course upset over the scene. It reminded him a bit too much of situations from his own life.
"Yeah… but it gets better, at least." They'd get to see the three in drag, after all, and that was pretty ironic. It was Mia's turn to hug Simon, gently rubbing his back.
“Mhm…” he agreed, happy to just let her take care of him for a moment.
Mia continued to rub Simon's back, keeping close. She hadn't expected them to have to take care of each other like this, but she was glad they were able to.
Simon hadn’t expected it either, he forgot about all these little moments in the movie that would bother them.
It was hard, living with such strange, specific trauma that Mia had from Astral, and with the trauma, Simon had too. How the littlest of things could be too much.
It was very strange, and very difficult to navigate. At this point, Astral should be legally required to pay for both of them to go to therapy.
Or at least kidnap a dead one, like another god in this pantheon had for his souls. Seriously, there was way too much shit for Simon and Mia to work out on their own.
There was way too much shit that the two of them were going through. Simon just hoped that the god didn’t realize how much pain he caused them everyday, instead of him knowing completely and doing nothing.
Mia knew Astral had never cared enough to see how his actions affected people afterward, until those reactions were something he wanted- fear, pain, breaking… All things she had known the god to force upon people with a grin.
Simon of course remembered that. Though he tried not to think about it. He instinctively shivered a bit at the thought, his hand going to touch the back of his head where Astral had practically bashed in his skull.
Mia looked over, the front of her own head tingling with the memory of what had happened to her. She moved her hand over, taking Simon's in her's and giving it a gentle squeeze. Hopefully, nothing like that would happen again.
He offered her a weak smile, squeezing her hand in return. Stuff like that is what made him afraid of the god, and made him worry that things wouldn’t be better.
It's what made Mia afraid as well. She'd spent too many years here, seen too many people hurting because of the god. She really didn't think he could change.
Simon honestly didn’t know why he hoped for change. Maybe it’s because that was the only option he had. It was either that or falling further into despair.
Mia just wanted a better life, for both of them. She wanted Astral to, if not change, leave them alone. Let them raise the child- they could convince themselves Mia had been the one to carry the baby after they were born, so Simon wouldn't have to deal with the pain as much.
Simon knew that was unlikely. Maybe Astral would let them go, but not the kid. The god wanted it too badly, Simon could see that. But he was afraid that if he and Mia left, Astral would make up some story about how Simon had abandoned them because he didn’t love the child. And he couldn’t let that happen. Maybe it was just because of how he’d had to grown up. Regardless, he couldn’t let the kid grow up believing something like that.
Astral wouldn't do that, but there was no way for Simon to know that. He wanted this child, he wanted them so badly; but he could never say their father didn't love them. That he didn't care. Simon still even having the child was more than enough proof. That he was going to stay for the child's sake.
Really, an utterly unhealthy and horrible thing for all of them.
And it truly would be extremely unhealthy for all of them, especially Simon. He’d work himself to death trying to be the perfect parent, remembering all too well what it felt like growing up without a loving parent.
Mia would do her best to stop it, if she didn't take her own life first. Astral would do his best to protect Simon too, even if it meant forcing him out of the child's life.
No matter what happened, this kid was definitely going to have some issues, that much was for certain. And Simon would definitely have a few more issues by the end of all of this.
((Also Simon still doesn’t know that Alec and Emile are real, he thought they were just figments of his imagination so that’s an oof))
(Oof, that's going to be… something, to learn about XD)
The kid's biggest issue: Astral. Still, he would do his best, even if it wasn't much. He would love that child with all of his tiny, shriveled heart. Let's just hope there was still room for Simon.
