Astral bit his lip.
"I… No, I haven't. And I wouldn't accept the forgiveness anyway."
Astral bit his lip.
"I… No, I haven't. And I wouldn't accept the forgiveness anyway."
“So then what? Is your whole plan to just mope around for the rest of his life?” Emile was…well he was getting a little impatient. He knew immortals were bad at this but damn Astral was really bad at this. “What do you even want to come out of this anyway?”
"I was planning on leaving him alone. Let him live his life as much as he could without me." Astral looked back at this being now.
"All I want is for him to be happy again."
“He can’t do that if you don’t change. He’s still scared that you’re going to hurt him, and can you blame him? You still lash out Astral.”
"I know." He glanced at Mia at that. How recently he had bashed her jaw in for not telling him where Simon was.
"I'm just not sure I'm capable of changing completely."
“Well if you don’t at least try, you’re going to lose them all.” He said bluntly. Emile wasn’t going to handle him gently in this.
"I know," Astral said in turn. He was glad, slightly, that this being wasn't going to be gentle from how things are going. He didn't need his ego fed anymore than it was.
He was disgusted with himself, because he couldn't bring himself to feel bad about what he had done to others; just what he had done to Simon. He still had every single soul on display in his living room like trophies.
“So unless you’re willing to explain to your child why his father killed himself, you need to do better. Simon can’t take too much more.” Surprisingly, Emile was the kinder one between him and Alec.
Astral nodded.
"I… have no idea where to start," the god admitted. "But I'll figure it out. For him."
“Good…” Emile didn’t know if he could actually trust Astral to improve, but he’d keep coming back to make sure he did.
Astral wasn't sure if he could trust himself to improve. Still, he would try.
He'd have this being there to help him, after all. There was no way he was letting someone who could stop the night terrors leave.
Of course Emile didn’t know that. But he was beginning to suspect that. Of course he had no intention of being held prisoner so he’d be a real pain to deal with.
Astral could handle it. He'd dealt with plenty before that hadn't wanted to be captured, his living room proof of it. He wasn't above doing something similar to this being.
"He really does look so peaceful…" the god said quietly.
Emile nodded. “He is. For now at least.” He agreed. Emile definitely had at least one knife on him, he always did. He’d make sure to give Astral hell.
Astral was ready for it- he wouldn't make his move until the other decided to leave, but when he did Astral would be ready. This being wasn't leaving the palace.
"For now. Hopefully, for a long while."
“So is there something you need or can I go back to making sure he stays asleep?” Emile asked, testing if the god was going to let him go.
"It would be best for you to go back to watching over Simon." Astral wasn't going to stop him from doing that. Still, his tone was clear- watch over Simon, or something will be done to ensure it happens anyway. Astral wasn't letting Emile go.
Emile sighed heavily. “You know this is really not something I’d recommend doing.” He said. “It’s just going to make everything worse.”
"No, it won't." Astral said calmly. He genuinely didn't think what he was doing was wrong. He was just going to make sure Simon was taken care of.
“Yes. Yes it will.” He said. “You think kidnapping me will just go over fine with everyone? That’s a really stupid plan. I may be able to help him for a bit but after too long he won’t trust me either.”
"Then you can leave when you can't help anymore," Astral said calmly. "From what I've seen, you go out of your way to make sure Simon doesn't see you- I'm to take it he doesn't remember you at all, right? Then he won't know, so it won't hurt him."
He sighed. “You know you’re really really bad at this not hurting people thing.” He said, not really responding to anything that Astral said.
"I know. See, though, the only one I care about whether he gets hurt or not is Simon. I'll do whatever it takes to keep him safe." Astral looked down at the small being before him, keeping a neutral expression.
“You’re going to lose him like this.” Emile replied simply, staring right back at Astral. “And I won’t feel sorry for you when you do.”
"Only if he ever finds out. And I'll make sure he won't." Astral took a step forward then. This being was talking too much, none of this was helping Simon.
