I took a step backwards and pushed the door closed with my body, tugging him against me. My breath hitched, mind going white from sheer pleasure. “I’ll cover it with my collar….”

“Or you could heal it…” I murmured, finally sinking my teeth in his skin, nibbling it gently, enjoying the reactions I was getting out of him.

A cry tore itself loose from my lips as I arched my back against him. “I—I’ll do that—“ Pleasure flooded me until I could hardly think, hardly breathe. “K-Kaden—“

I pulled him closer, feeling his skin beat up from under my mouth.

“What do you want me to do, Andreas?” I murmured hotly. “How should I warm you up?”

Words died in my mouth, lodged in my throat. Kaden… He filled my every thought until my heart was practically pounding out his name. You’re going to be the death of me..

I finally tore my lips away from his throat, moving up to capture his lips again. I tugged on his shirt, a silent request, my skin burning. God, was he driving me insane. I could do this forever and not get tired. I could kiss him forever and would always come back for more.

I was slowly starting to fall in love with this man.

But I wasn’t quite done with him yet….

“Patience, Kaden…” I managed to murmur, though my mouth was numb from the kiss. Placing a hand in the centre of his chest. I pushed him gently away, winking. “I wanted to cuddle, remember?”

I growled, trying to pull him in another kiss.

“No, I don’t want to cuddle,” I hissed, eyes darkening. “I want you. Cuddling be damned.”

I almost caved in, crumbled to his will. But somehow, I kept myself together just enough to slip from his arms. "Aw, poor baby…"

“Andreas!” I almost groaned, reaching out to grab him again. “How dare you make me all hot and bothered and then just leave me hanging?”

"You know you love me," I breathed, inhaling shakily. God, you drive me crazy, Kaden…..

"Now come on, I have a letter from my mother that I want to read."

I growled but said nothing. I needed a cold shower now, ASAP.

Sighing, I sat down on the bed, glaring at him.

“Well?” I said rather impatiently. “Read, and then I can get what I want.”

I leaned forward to brush a teasing kiss below his jawline. "We'll see about that…."

Before he could react, I pulled the letter from my battered messenger bag, taking my sweet time.

“Damn you, Andreas…” I hissed under my breath. “You have five seconds to open the goddamn letter before I rip off your clothes.”

Fireworks exploded in the pit of my stomach. The mask of playful nonchalance shattered to pieces at my feet, exposing trembling hands and a bright red face. I couldn't open the letter fast enough.

"My dearest son," I read aloud, reaching out to lay a hand on Kaden's knee. But my eyes skimmed ahead, past an introductory paragraph……

And the whole world stopped.

You can't just do that to me! What the heck happened???)

I scowled when Andreas set his hands on my knee, but when he stopped reading and his face turned pale, I grew worried.

“Andreas? What’s wrong?”

I hope nothing was wrong with his family. Oh, God, I’m so glad he had the audacity to tease me earlier. If there was something wrong…

"No," I breathed, panic flooding and overriding every cell my body was made of. "No–No—That's not possible—"

I kept reading the letter over and over again, fingers tightening around its edges until it crumples. Tears began to slip down my cheeks, slowly at first, then all of a sudden becoming a torrential downpour of desperation. "No—"

I immediately took Andreas in my arms, holding him tightly, not daring to read the letter without his permission.

“What’s wrong? Andreas, tell me what’s wrong?”

I collapsed the moment he took hold of me, shoving the crumpled letter into his hands. "Alma–" I choked out, drowning in my tears. This couldn't be happening. Anyone but her—Anyone but my sister—I'd take her place in an instant—

But I couldn't. I couldn't do anything, not even as a Healer.

I tentatively took the letter, spreading it neatly all the while keeping my hold on her.

The second I began reading it, my face paled. No. Not her. Not his sister. Andreas loved his sister—she was his anchor.

“Oh, Andreas…” I rubbed his back, holding him tightly. “You need a surgeon, right? I’ll help you. I swear. I won’t let anything happen to your sister. We can do this.”

Muffled sobs wracked my body as I clung to Kaden for dear life, unable to let go. “We—We don’t have the money—This—This happened with my aunt—“

They couldn’t save her.

I hugged him tightly, pressing kisses to the top of his head.

“I’ll pay,” I murmured. “My parents won’t mind. They’ll want to help. I’ll help you pay for it—it’s okay, Andreas.”

A ray of hope cut through my despair, but just as quickly as it had formed, darkness was snuffing it out. “My parents—they would never accept—and I can’t take your—your money—do you know how much this would cost? I pulled away, looking him in the eye. “I can’t do that to you…”
