”You’d die and leave your bondling alone in the world?”
Was this woman making fun of him with her sweet tone—or was she just completely insane?
”You’d die and leave your bondling alone in the world?”
Was this woman making fun of him with her sweet tone—or was she just completely insane?
“Who are you?” My breathing became heavier, eyes dropping. “What do you want? Why are you doing this?”
Why couldn’t I shut up? Why couldn’t I be myself? What was this feeling—this invisible… string coiled around my heart, preventing me from thinking straight? Why did I want to melt into her arms, get down on my knees and beg for mercy?
Who was this woman, and what did she want from Key and I?
”Tell me.”
Her voice hardened, and when she spoke the command, the air stirred, faceless whispering intensifying.
I froze, feeling my blood freeze over. Intense love for the woman before me flooded me and all rational thinking fell down the drain.
My lips moved, not on their own, but because I willed them to.
”Yes, Mistress…”
”Much better..” she whispered, exhaling as she softened. ”Now, tell me… How are you feeling? Describe every way you feel different.”
”I feel as if there’s a string around my heart,” I answered robotically, my eyes dropping, blanking out. I wanted to please her. ”I want to prove my worth to you. I want to protect you, do everything in my power to help you achieve your goal. I am nothing but a soldier, ready to do your bidding.”
The woman’s lips curved up into a wicked smile. Slowly, she reached forward and slipped a hand over Colton’s cheek, cupping it gently.
When she next spoke, all traces of the potent spell disappeared from the air. “How long do you think you’ve been gone, Colton?”
I growled, baring my teeth, the dazed look in my eyes melting.
“Don’t touch me,” I snarled. “How dare you.”
”Five days,” she continued, as if he hadn’t spoken. “You’ve been missing for five days. And they haven’t even sent a search party….. Tell me, Colton, is there anyone who cares about you? I don’t think there is…”
Immediately, Elliot flashed in my mind, but I wiped him just as quickly as he came.
“My father trusts me,” I hissed. “We agreed to not send anyone to find me if I went off the radar. We’re only agreeing to our terms.”
”Oh, no…” she whispered, pressing her thumb into the centre of his forehead. “Colton, no… You think that boy cares? You don’t even know who he really is…”
All of a sudden, she seemed to have taken a melancholy, almost motherly turn. “Oh, Colton… Poor, poor Colton….”
“Shut up,” I growled, feeling my anger take control of me. “Shut up, shut up! Shut your goddamn mouth. What crap do you even know? Who the hell are you to tell me what I know and what I don’t? What the hell do you even want from me?”
”Shh….”
The woman tapped a finger against his lips. “Breathe, Colton. Relax. I’m just trying to help—Don’t you want me to help? That boy is trouble, Colton~” Her voice took on a singsong quality. “You have no idea who he really is….”
My mind was completely torn apart. One part wanted to submit, the other wanted to fight. I didn’t know what was happening to me. What the hell did she do to me?
”Help me…! You don’t know shit. Once I’m free, I will rip you apart and you will regret laying your dirty hands on me. Please… Help me… You’re so confident, aren’t you? Then why keep me chained up? Why keep me like this, when you have such confidence you’ll emerge victorious?” I hissed, trying to rile her up. ”I beg of you, Mistress, save me. It hurts. Tell me what to do.”
She stooped over, putting her mouth close to his ear. “You don’t know who I am~” the woman sang, her breath stirring the faint crosshatching of hairs on his sideburns. “Poor boy… you can’t decide what you want, can you?”
Her finger glided over his lower lip. “I can help you decide…”
Every part of me that rebelled against her died out. My body fell slack, and had I not been bound, I would have fallen. Every little fight left in me was doused in cold water and the only thing that remained was an empty hallow.
”Help me…” My body shook as tremors took over, tears streaming down my cheeks. ”I’m so lost, Mistress. I don’t know what to do. I want my Key. I want you. I want to please you. Please, Mistress, save me…”
”It’s alright….” she whispered, almost lovingly as her hand stroked his cheek and brushed away each tear. As if she loved him, yes, but like one might love an item, like a fountain pen or an elegant picture frame.
”Listen to me and you’ll earn him back… I know, it’s frightneing… but you’re strong, Colton. Stay strong.”
”I’ll listen to you…” I whispered, leaning into her warm touches, her icy voice breathing life into me. Right before I jerked away, chains clattering, digging into my wrists. “Get off of me! Don’t touch me! What the hell did you do to me?”
The woman clicked her tongue patronizingly. “You’re disappointing me, Colton…. Careful….”
Her words hit like a harsh slap to the face. Suddenly, I felt like begging for forgiveness. What was wrong with me?
”I’m sorry…” I whispered, hanging my head in shame. ”I don’t know what’s wrong with me… please, punish me for my insolence…”
A snap echoed through the chamber, and for a brief moment, two eyes flashed bright white in the dark. Then, the woman was holding out her fist and twisting her wrist….
A scream shattered the air.
Kaden’s POV:
I sat up slowly, throat dry and parched. Andreas was sleeping peacefully, and I gently got off to get myself a glass of water.
Right as I was turning off the kitchen light, I heard a quiet scream coming out from Elliot’s room. I didn’t think twice. I ran.
Elliot’s POV:
Hands reached towards me in the dark, pulling at my clothes, my hair, my body. I was submerged in blackness, a void, crying out as I panicked and tried in vain to push the hands off. They dragged me back, drawing blood from my skin, and all of a sudden, light flooded my dreamscape. An ice wind blew, causing my eyes to flicker down to my bare arms… my barely clothed chest… Where was my binder?
Suddenly, Colton was there, eyes eyes flashing murderously. “You lied!” he yelled, voice trembling with fury, and the scene shifted again. I was chained down, heavy shackles wrapped around my hands—and the whole school was watching me with emotionless eyes. I turned, about to cry for help, and my eyes snatched on the Prince, standing tall with a brosdword in his two hands. “You disgust me,” he spat.
And swung the sword.
A scream tore itself loose from my lips. Before I had even registered where I was or what had happened, I was sitting ramrod-straight in bed, shaking all over.
I slammed the door open, turning on the lights and staring right at a shaking Elliot.
“Elliot? Hey, you’re okay,” I crossed the distance and immediately wrapped him in a hug. “You’re okay. You’re safe. Nothing happened.”
It took exactly three seconds for me to crumble, to fall apart in Kaden’s arms. I took a shuddering breath in, squeezing my eyes shut, but the tears slipped down my cheeks regardless.
I don’t want to die….
