The waitress sat their cups down, Nix's already full of his juice. She poured Derlik his coffee before retreating, head down as she listened to the instructions Derlik told her in her mind.
The waitress sat their cups down, Nix's already full of his juice. She poured Derlik his coffee before retreating, head down as she listened to the instructions Derlik told her in her mind.
Nix carefully reached for the cup of juice and pulled it close to himself, drinking it quietly. He kept close to Derlik, the tip of his tail flicking anxiously.
"How are you doing?" Derlik asked. He put some creamer and sugar into his coffee, stirring it. He had his arms on either side of Nix, still keeping him close.
"I'm okay…" He said softly, drinking a bit more of his juice. "I'm sorry for being a problem…"
"You're not being a problem," Derlik corrected, keeping his voice soft. He paused to hug Nix gently, kissing his head.
"But I am… I'm being all… all nervous about everything, and there's nothing to be nervous about…"
"Yes, there is," Derlik said after a moment. "You've been hurt almost every time you've come to earth in this form, especially around other humans. I'm here to protect you though, okay? Not a single person here is going to dare to hurt you."
"Okay…" Nix curled up a bit more, not seeming very reassured. He didn't look up again until the waitress returned with the food.
The waitress sat the food down for the two, retreating quickly with the look from Derlik. They were left alone again, thankfully.
Nix tentatively grabbed a pancake and pulled it close to himself, nibbling at it quietly as he huddled up against Derlik's chest.
Derlik started to eat quietly as well, holding Nix close. The god knew they wouldn't be doing this again any time soon.
Nix soon finished his pancake and yawned, huddling up against Derlik's chest. He still seemed uneasy, but he was at least more relaxed than before.
Derlik looked down when Nix finished, kissing his head. At least he was more relaxed. The god sat his own food down, wrapping his arms around Nix.
"Are you ready to go?"
Nix nodded a bit, curling up in Derlik's arms. "Are we going back to the house now?" He asked softly, barely audible.
"We are whenever you're ready," Derlik confirmed. He moved to stand, holding the curled up man in his arms.
"I'm ready whenever…" Nix rested his head against Derlik's chest and closed his eyes.
Derlik nodded some. He stood, holding Nix close. In just a few steps, they were back in Halm's home.
Nix glanced around warily, not really feeling any better in Halm's house. He didn't want to be around Halm, after all. "What now?" He asked softly.
"We find something to distract ourselves with," Derlik said. "Want to try to go out in the garden?" Derlik wasn't comfortable there either, after all. He and Halm did hate each other, after all.
"Okay… that's fine." Nix said softly, keeping close to Derlik. "What are we gonna do there?"
"Well, I'm sure there's something," Derlik said. "We just gotta figure it out."
Nix nodded a bit. "Mhmm… gardening and all… do you know how to garden?"
"I know some, yes. I take care of all the trees in my forest," Derlik admitted.
"I guess that makes sense… don't trees kinda take care of themselves, though?" He asked softly.
"Trees need a lot of care when they're young so they thrive," Derlik explained. "They're very delicate in their early years."
