"I… I don't think she will, but we can hope, right?" Derlik closed his eyes a moment.
"I… I don't think she will, but we can hope, right?" Derlik closed his eyes a moment.
"Yeah…" Nix sighed shakily. "I just… really don't wanna think about it right now…"
Derlik nodded mutely, holding Nix closer. He didn't say a word, just running his fingers through Nix's hair. He wiped Nix's cheek gently, cleaning of the mixture of dirt, makeup, and touch of blood from the woman's assault on him.
Nix purred weakly at the petting, closing his eyes as he tried to allow himself to relax. "I'm sorry that all of this happened…"
"I… I am too." Derlik closed his own eyes as well, keeping Nix close to his chest. "I should…" Derlik shook his head a bit. It didn't matter now.
"You should what?" Nix asked weakly, keeping his eyes closed as he huddled closer to Derlik.
"I should've done more to stop her," Derlik said softly. He'd been so helpless, and he let Nix get hurt. He hasn't even known the man for a day, but he wanted to protect him. One of his random impulses.
"But it's not your fault, sir…" Nix replied weakly. "She was hurting you too. She didn't really start hurting me much until she'd already knocked you unconscious…"
"E-exactly… If I had managed to not pass out, t-then she wouldn't have hurt you like this." Derlik held Nix close, eyes squeezed shut.
"It's not your fault… you can't control whether you pass out or not…" Nix replied weakly. "A-And besides, you… you aren't obligated to protect me. You don't have to."
"And if I w-want to?" Derlik rested his head on Nix's again, eyes closed tightly still.
"W-Well, then… I guess I can't exactly stop you…" Nix flushed a bit. "I'm just saying that you don't have to feel like you have to…"
"I… I feel like I have to," Derlik started softly. "But it's not because of what you might think… I feel like I have to keep you safe, because I don't want to see you hurt." Derlik gently rubbed his thumb against Nix's cheek.
"Oh… but… but why?" Nix asked softly. "We hardly know each other…" He tucked his head under Derlik's chin.
"I… That's just how I am. I… Get urges, and I just go with it. I'm the god of chaos, after all." Derlik relaxed his face just slightly, glad the subject had changed from his creator.
"And I have the urge to keep you safe."
Nix flushed red and huddled closer to Derlik. "O-Oh, uhm… okay…" He replied shyly. "I guess I can't… uhm… can't exactly stop you."
Derlik let out a breath, leaning his head against the arm of the couch. He offered a weak smile.
"Yeah… Guess we'll both just have to deal with this." It wasn't such a bag thing to have to deal with, though."
"Mhmm…" Nix nuzzled against Derlik affectionately and sighed. "I'm sorry for getting all of us into this mess…"
Running his fingers through Nix's hair when he was nuzzled, Derlik shook his head a bit.
"It isn't you're fault. You don't have to apologize."
"It is, though…" Nix whispered weakly, holding tighter to the other. "All of this was my fault…"
"It's not, I promise it's not," Derlik said softly. "Mother… she would have found any excuse to do this to you…"
Nix sighed softly. "What reason, though? I hadn't done anything to her before then and I was making Halm happy, and he's apparently her favorite…"
"Well…" How would Derlik say this? "He… hasn't been doing good either, since this happened. She must not like that…"
Nix fidgeted with Derlik's shirt nervously, turning his ears back. "I just… I wish this were just a nightmare so I could wake up…"
"I… I do too, Nix…" Derlik ran his fingers through Nix's hair, a bit limp on the couch. The beating had taken a lot out of him, even after Serna healing him.
