"a, fae?" they ask, a bit dumbly "what's a fae? like, some kind of gnome or something?" it asks completely oblivious.
"a, fae?" they ask, a bit dumbly "what's a fae? like, some kind of gnome or something?" it asks completely oblivious.
Ash giggles at the guess and shakes her head. “Not quite. I actually have a closer relationship to Elves.” she explains, tucking her hair back to show her pointed ears. “I consider them as cousins though our types of magic are different.”
"WOOOAH! your ears are so cool!" they say, sounding more like a child than an adult "so you like a wizard right? wish i could do magic. is it as cool as it seems?" they ask with childish enthusiasm.
“Well, thank you.” she blushes, not having expected a compliment. Though she laughs again at the comparison. “I'm not nearly as powerful as a wizard. But I do appreciate their craft.” Ash admits. “Having magic is very useful. Especially in my line of work. I can use it to help make some of my medicine so it's more potent or lasts longer for people.”
"oh right i forgot to ask, but what exactly do you do?" they say tilting their head just a bit to one side "are you a doctor?" they said. deciding the food would be fine, it started roasting the meat, and eating the berries.
“I’m an alchemist.” Ash shrugs. “I make potions, medical remedies, and charms. People come to me with problems and if I'm able to help them then I will.” she explains. “I’m not exclusively a doctor but I do know quite a bit of medicine. Most people, like the man today, come to me if the local doctor can't or isn't able to help them.”
(sry i was a bit busy but im back now)
"wow that's pretty cool. i wish i was useful, but i don't really have any cool skills like that" dom says turning the meat a bit. looking up at the sky they get a wistful look. they check the meat and then take it away from the fire, "well i think the food is done." they say letting them cool off a bit, and meanwhile pull out a small knife and a half carved wooden figure that hasn't yet taken a clear shape.
(It's ok. I was kinda busy last night so we're even 😉)
Ash laughs lightly and shakes her head. “You are useful. If it wasn't for you, I would most likely be still researching that sickness and how to cure it. Perhaps I would even be getting sick myself.” she points out. “Besides, you have lived out in these woods for how many years? You have some very impressive skills.”
"well we don't even know if it IS the right disease. i mean if i'm wrong and it's a lot more serious, then the whole PLACE would die and it would be my fault because no one was there to treat it!" they say, voice rising a bit as their growing anxiety begins to show, they begin to carve the wood figure starting to clam down again "sorry i-i didn't mean to shout." dom says sounding a bit more subdued.
Ash doesn't react to Dommity’s rising voice beyond raising an eyebrow before gently placing a hand on the dwarf’s shoulder. “But what if you are right?” she asks softly. “Then we are going to find the only known cure and you will have saved the whole village.” she points out. “Your fears of being wrong are not unfounded, however, one thing is for certain. If you are right or wrong, you have saved me from it.” she smiles kindly.
they start carving the figure a bit more forcefully "well guess. but the last time i saw it, i've only seen it once when i was seven or six, and it was in a place i can't even remember. all we can really do is hope i'm right." they say as it begins to take some semblance of shape.
Ash nods, not arguing with Dommity’s point. “What are you carving there?” she asks, changing the topic since she had noticed their actions.
"oh just a small project i've been working on when i had the time. it's just a small fox." they say a little bashfully, glad for the change in topic. "i remember it was actually one of the first animals i ever saw. well i mean outside animals." they said with a bit of a chuckle.
Ash smiles as Dommity laughed and explained their work. “Very interesting. What made you decide to take up wood carving?”
"oh! ummm, i took it when i left the mountain. it was my dad's, so sometimes i like to remember my old life when i carve." they say shyly, "but well that can of worms is for some other time." they said hurriedly.
“I think it is a nice way to remember your family.” Ash smiles warmly, almost chuckling at the sweet hint of a story, but nods when Dommity decided not to talk about more it. “Do you think dinner has cooled enough for us to eat now?”
"what?" they say having completely forgotten all about it "oh right, they should be done now. im not that hungry though, do you want them?"
“Perhaps we can split one.” she suggests. “It would be a shame to let your hard work on the hunt to go to waste.” Ash points out, since she wasn't very hungry either.
they blush furiously at the idea, "OH NO REALLY I'M FINE." dom says flustered "plus it wouldn't really go to waste after all."
Ash raises a brow at Dommity’s blush and the sudden change in their tone. “Are you sure?”
"yeah! completely sure they're small anyways so im posvi-possvs-possostive, possostive? did i get that right?" dom says struggling with their speech "wait, poss-e-tiv, hang on this doesn't sound right." they say, looking deep in thought "pa-si-tiv, mmm no, still wrong."
Ash couldn't help giggling at the adorable way Dommity stumbled over their words. “Positive.” she supplies, still smiling.
"oh, that's it. sorry." they say with a shy smile, "i'm not really good at talking, if you haven't noticed."
“It's alright.” Ash smiles warmly back. “You didn't give up and kept trying. Besides it was cute.” she admits with a soft blush.
'woah. woah! WOAH! what was that! i'm probably just over thinking or something, but i SWEAR she blushed' they thought and at the same just said "o-oh um t-thanks." turning a beet red.
