"Ah…" Matthew let out a breath. "The poor man. He doesn't have it easy at all, does he?"
"Ah…" Matthew let out a breath. "The poor man. He doesn't have it easy at all, does he?"
She shook her head a bit. "No, he doesn't. I'm just grateful he's still as kind and compassionate as he is despite all he's gone through."
"Yeah…" Matthew looked down at Rowan, smiling some.
"He really is. I'm glad for it."
She nodded again and sighed. "I'm glad he's still willing to visit me even though I'm all old and boring now." She laughed weakly.
"Oh, there's one thing I can assure you- Rowan adores you." Matthew looked to the man's mother, smiling softly.
"Has he talked about me much, then?" She asked, smiling gently.
"Yes, and only ever with a smile on his face," Matthew comfirmed.
"That's sweet of him. It's nice to know he was thinking of me while he was here." She turned her eyes forward again, still smiling. "He came to see me almost every day back at home."
"A very dedicated son, then." Matthew smiled softly. "He genuinely hated the idea of staying here if it meant he couldn't see you, even though he thinks this world is a lot better than your old one."
"I'm sure this place is good, then. My son has pretty good judgement most of the time. If he thinks it's wonderful, I'm sure I can trust that."
"That's good to hear, ma'am." Matthew smiled some. "Though, I must ask how well you can handle heights…"
"I'm alright with them, although Rowan is terribly afraid of them. I'm sure you know that already, though."
"Yeah, oh yeah, like, it was pretty hard on him just getting into my house." Matthew chuckled weakly.
"That sounds like him. I suppose you have suspended homes, then?" She asked curiously.
"Indeed. Everything is off the ground in my village," Matthew pointed out with a sigh.
"Interesting. I suppose that makes sense if everyone has wings. How am I supposed to get up, though?"
"Well, Rowan and I thought it would be practical to have your homes on the ground. He even wants to open a 'coffee' shop, though I'm still not one hundred percent sure on what that is." Matthew smiled softly, shifting Rowan some in his arms.
"Ah, that sounds like him. Coffee is sort of a bitter thing we drink to keep ourselves awake, I guess." She tried to explain.
"Mm… yeah, I think he'll have a good time selling, then, if he can find anything to make drinks like that here." Matthew chuckled, shrugging carefully.
"Yeah. I'm not sure if you guys have coffee beans." She hummed thoughtfully.
"I'm sure we'll figure something out," the avian assured.
Rowan's mother nodded a bit as she kept walking. "I'm sure. And I bet he'll find something to do even if it isn't with coffee."
"Mhmmm…" Matthew smiled, keeping his pace matching the woman's.
"What kind of jobs do you have around here anyway?" She asked curiously. "Anything special?"
"Not that I think, no," Matthew said. "But I can't promise it'll have the same meaning to you."
