She rolled her eyes. "You know I can't do that." She said, handing it over.
She rolled her eyes. "You know I can't do that." She said, handing it over.
"Consider it a tip, then," Tolly said, pushing the bill back across the counter. "I want you to have it, Sage. You're amazing and you deserve it."
She blushed, pocketing the bill. "Thanks…"
Tolly laughed quietly, slightly lost in her eyes. "…It's no problem. I wanna make you happy! You're so sweet and you don't give yourself enough credit."
Sage short circuited, again. "Um… thank you?" She said, making a slight, embarrassing squeaking noise.
"No problem!" Tolly grinned at her, eyes practically sparkling with glee. "Oh yeah! I was wondering if you'd like to hang out sometime. Like, outside the shop."
Sage grinned. "Sure! What'd you have in mind?"
"Well, I was wondering if you'd like to drop by my house and let me cook you dinner." Tolly tilted his head at her, smiling softly.
"Sure! I'm always down for food." She said, hopping back over the counter. "Anyways, I need to take care of the snapdragons in the back."
"Great!" he cheered, reaching over to squeeze her shoulder in thanks before he left the store. "You know where I live! Come over around 6!"
She nodded, giving him a thumbs up.
Once he got home, Tolly began brainstorming what he should cook. What kind of food did Sage even like? Chinese? Italian? He decided to go with some good old fashioned fried chicken.
Sage smiled as she clocked out, heading home to take care of a few things there before she went to his place.
Tolly had the house in tip-top shape by the time 5:30 rolled around. He'd even managed to magic some flowers into existence so he could fill up the vase on the kitchen table, which he was very proud of. Now all he had to do was sit back and wait.
Sage was fixing herself up, getting her hair in decent shape and making sure her sweater and skirt were in okay shape. She put on a bit of lipgloss and tightened the laces of her boots and heading out.
Tolly was messing with his hair in the entry hall mirror, trying to coax it into some semblance of neatness. He took stock of the rest of his outfit: ripped black jeans and an old fall out boy band shirt. Did he look okay? Was he supposed to dress up for this?
Sage took a deep breath, raising a fist to knock on the door.
Tolly bolted over to open the door, smiling when he saw Sage on the doorstep. "You made it!"
She smiled at him. "Of course!"
"Come in!" he said, ushering her into the living room with a wide smile on his face. "How was the trip over here? Do you want me to grab you a glass of water or anything?"
"I'm fine, thanks." She said, shrugging as she walked in.
"The food'll be done in about 10 minutes. I like your skirt by the way, you look really cute in it." Tolly plopped down on the couch and gestured for Sage to do the same.
"Thank you." She said, sitting gently next to him. "How are you?"
"I'm doing fine! I got to visit Ailsa today and she's much better than she was last week. I might even get to bring her home soon!" A quiet sadness lurked in Tolly's voice even as he tried to power through it.
"That's great!" She said, grinning.
