Marco shuffled around a little in the other's pocket, making himself comfortable and then focusing on not being sick again as the other moved.
Oci finally made it to the bottom of the slope, his heart beating wildly. He had no idea how he was going to make it back up the slope, but that really wouldn't matter if he died. Which he very well might, after alerting everything in the valley of his presence. Oci reached into his pocket and carefully pulled Marco out, setting him down in the short, golden grass. "Where do you think it'll be?" He whispered.
Marco shifted back as soon as he was set down, still looking queasy, but steady. "I think it'll be wherever that Dark aura is coming from." he said softly, looking towards the castle. "In that tower." he pointed to the tallest one, which was floating, chained to the ground about the other towers. "We need to get up there… somehow."
"Oh, Edding gods, it's floating." Oci let out a huge sigh. "Of course it's floating. Well, there should be some way of getting up there, even if we have to climb those chains." He took a few steps forward until he was right next to an arch that led into the ruins. "You ready?"
Marco nodded, "As ready as I'll ever be." he said, moving to let the other take the lead. "If you want I can scout out a path up to the tower." he said after a moment.
"Sure." Oci nodded and stepped through the arch. "I'll look around here, see if there's anything else we need to worry about?" He glanced around, very on edge.
Marco nodded, "I'll be right back" he said, before shifting into a falcon and taking flight, circling over Oci's head before winging it towards the tower, spiraling around one of the chains.
Oci watched Marco fly up, then started towards the tower on foot. He had to climb over a few crumbling walls, and it was almost fun until he remembered where he was.
Marco swirled around the chains, always veering away from the tower, it's aura almost overwhelming the closer he came to it. He was on the last chain, and he was inspecting the link it had to the tower when he veered too close, and the auras gathered from the tower, striking him with a lightening bolt of power. Marco had dodged a couple of these, but this was too close and it hit his wing, sending him spiraling in a headlong plummet or the ground.
Oci's head snapped up when he heard the sound of something… different. He was just in time to see Marco get hit. "Edding gods!" Oci yelled, watching in shock as he fell towards the ground. "Well, isn't this just the best thing to happen today." He clambered over another wall and ran as fast as he could towards where he thought he saw Marco heading. "Gods, gods, gods, Edding shifter getting himself killed before we even see the staff!" Oci kicked a rock across the ground in anger– and although he didn't want to admit it, fear– and continued on.
Marco felt himself falling, having been momentarily stunned by the blast. Luckily he'd stayed in falcon form, and as soon as he had enough focus he moved to spread his wings and control his decent. But he was failing miserably, his left wing smoking from where it'd been hit, some of his flight feathers burnt off. Flapping both wings as best he could he managed to slow himself a little, but there was no way he could stop it. IDIOT, I'm gonna die because of a stupid tower!
Oci stepped through a half-crumbled arch into a large opening that might've been a ballroom at one point. Marco was plummeting towards the far end of the room, and Oci's heart skipped a beat when he noticed Marco wasn't slowing down enough. He would most certainly hit the ground, and probably die on impact. That simply wouldn't do. Oci took a deep breath and thrust both his hands at Marco. The shadows hiding by the remaining walls peeled away and streaked towards Marco. They surrounded him, turning into a sort of soft cloud. But they weren't solid enough to help Marco yet. Oci gritted his teeth together and summoned more shadows from beyond the room. After a few excruciating seconds, there was a pillow made of shadows surrounding Marco. Even if he hit the ground falling from the top of the tallest tower, he wouldn't get a single bruise.
Marco almost panicked when the shadows surrounded him, before realizing Oci was helping him out. He still struggled to slow his fall as the soft shadows converged beneath him, not knowing how much it would help when he impacted. When he finally did hit the ground it was more like a soft thump than the bone crushing thud he though it'd be. Shifting back, he let himself sprawl out, cradling his singed arm.
As soon as Marco was safely on the ground, Oci let the shadows go, feeling rather faint. He'd only done that a few times, and usually, it wasn't so many shadows. Oci took a few steps towards Marco, his legs trembling. "How– how are you?" He gasped, stumbling the rest of the way over to Marco.
Marco sat up with a small groan, "Not dead… if that helps…" he said, still cradling his arm. "Stupid tower.." he muttered, before his attention flicked fully to Oci, "You better sit down before you fall over.." he said softly, watching him with concern as he stumbled over.
"Yeah, probably," Oci said breathily, dropping onto the ground next to Marco. "So. How's the arm?" He asked, glancing around the area for threats. Something must have seen or heard them, and at the moment, they were easy prey.
"Burnt…" he said, stating the obvious. "And I definitely won't be flying again any time soon, and I doubt I could let you ride back out of here either." He sighed, "I'm such an idiot.." he muttered.
"Well, will you still be able to fight?" Oci asked, running a shaky hand through his hair. "If not, I might be able to make a portal back to the town on the outskirts of the Woods."
"I can still fight." said Marco, watching him, "And I wouldn't be leaving even if I could."
"Okay." Oci nodded and pulled himself to his feet. "Of course. Did you ever tell me why you wanted to kill the king?" He looked down at Marco. "You seem awfully set on it."
"He tore my family apart." he said flatly in answer, as he got to his feet, avoiding the use of his arm.
"That's a pretty good reason to want him dead." Oci shrugged and glanced towards the tower. "Anyways. Did you manage to find any way up before you crashed?"
"Yeah, that chain," he pointed to the nearest one, humming softly. "We should be able to climb up it safely."
"Will you be able to climb up with your arm, or will you shift into a mouse again or something?" Oci asked, something like concern shining in his eyes.
"I should be able to climb." he said softly, "I was actually thinking of giving you a ridethis time."
