It's like the more I try and remember that I'm supposed to make my protagonists likeable, the more the demon inside my brain is like 'eh, no one will care if they murder a few people, and if they're all very obviously extremely manipulative and extremely used to getting whatever they want.'
…We all have issues I guess……..
Yea i get that. my protagonist isn't necessarily bad, but he's not rly likeable
I have like eight protagonists and they're all equally horrible people.
And the worst part is like?? I kind of have a soft spot for them??? Idk if it's Stockholm Syndrome or just the fact that I created them ¯(ツ)/¯
It might be the fact that you created them. My favorite of all my characters is probably my worst one aside from my main antagonist). But i love him dearly.
What's his name? Also I feel therapized. (that's not a word, but. Better. I feel better) Always good to know that I'm not the only author who's probably WAY too attached to problematic characters.
Its dominick. I'm not sure if his profile is completely done but i'm sure there's something. and yea i love finding out that my weird little writing quirks are normal lol
Nice. (I just went and checked out his profile rlly quick) I love the name Dominick too
Hi! I just needed to vent really quick about my world building
I have a really powerful scene in my brain that I want to use, it would make me very very sad, and I might not do it, but I think it would be a very powerful scene, the problem is I don't think I can fit it in to my current plot which mean's I have to add in an entirely new subplot so I can write this one scene.
I know how you feel ! It's a really rough thing to figure out but i think if its really powerful and you really want to use it, you should create the new subplot. It's really hard but last time i didn't include something i really wanted, i ended up kind of regretting it later on and writing it in even though i was maybe 12 chapters past where it would've happened. thats' just my opinion on it lol. i know it was just a vent so sorry if you didn't want any opinions on it :/
Once I was so frustrated with my book I just wrote a paragraph to say the food was poisonous and they all died, the end. I came back the next day and crossed that out but it did make me feel better.
All my characters are mentally scarred in some way and I dunno what that says about me
Wait are your characters One Piece or original?
My most main character of my main series is not super likable. Once you know him he is. But he is a good guy.
ughhh this is so frustrating !! i made it a thing that the government made new production of official creative material illegal (officially produced movies, shows, music, books, etc.). Tbh, i did this out of pure laziness cos i didnt want to have to come up with new artists for my characters to listen to (some of them are kind of music crazy) or new movies for them to watch. but i have no idea how to introduce that in the story without it messing up the flow !!
Just casually have a character say "I wish the government hadn't banned making new songs, I want to listen to different music, I've already listened to all these songs."
oh that's a good idea. i do need a lot of filler scenes in this next chapter (regrettably) so maybe i could just have them talk about how much it sucks or something.
@stolenbrocoli If you want suggestions for music or whatever, let me know. I listen to a lot of music, read a lot of books, and watch a lot of movies/tv.
I think i'm good. they've all kinda got their own thing already i think. maybe some suggestions for what a 50 something y/o man who was born in 2017 would listen to? and instrumental music?
Hi
So remember when I said I had to make a subplot, I realized that I could potentially ave enough content there for a sequel that can be foreshadowed in the first one.
@Relsey That's a great idea. honestly, i like book series much better than stand alone books (both writing and reading). you should totally write a sequel
If you write a sequel it might be a good idea to near the beginning show the change the characters have gone through.
Will do, I'll have to mess with some of the character arcs a bit but I think it will be worth it.
Well, do what you think is best for the story and characters.
