I get really frustrated when characters are like "this isn't a book" or "this isnt one of your cheesy romance novels" or "this isn't a mystery story" because yes that's something that the character would say if they were a real person but that's exactly what this is and it's not funny anymore

YES, AGREED.
I would say I see it more in fanfiction but seriously please stop.

I'll admit, it was kind of funny the first time I saw it, and less funny the second time but at this point it's just annoying

I mean I use it in my musical because fourth wall breaks are fun and I'll occasionally do it in realistic fiction because some people cough Victor cough get carried away with either ideas or worries.

I love breaking the fourth wall but hate reading it.

Even when I do use it, it's never like the story is a cheesy romance and the character goes "this isn't a cheesy romance!", it'll be more like "what if X has been taking a drug they made to give themself an alternate personality?!" or something outlandish like that/a reference to another story.

Yes subtle references are like easter eggs in a book!

I was planning on having Daniella scornfully say something about the Disticts apparently being urban fantasy. Then Silas gets really pissed at her for saying it.

Since most of my realistic fiction characters are nerds except for Henry, and even he geeks out about some things they reference stuff a lot. Especially Della and Co. and Jackson, because theatre kids can't not constantly make dumb theatre jokes.

Is someone really a theatre kid if they don't list all of their biggest roles within 5 minutes of meeting you?

Literally me though, my friends and I can't stay off of a stage lmao

I can't watch any play/musical/drama in peace anymore because my friends are next to me criticizing the lighting, admiring the mics, singing along to every single song (I do that too but not the point), cheering for every other actor/actress since theatre kids have so many circles I can't even, dancing the choreo, reciting lines word for word, being salty because they could've done a part better than an actor/actress, etc. etc.
Of course these are just stereotypes but omg I wanna watch Shrek Jr in peace please.

I’m not quite sure how to say this but if you are a girl doing a romance from a guy’s POV, do the research on how a dude’s brain works.

You know where in the first paragraph it's like: "It was a sunny day in the town where our story takes place and Mary Sue had just made a terrible discovery….blah blah blah."

All I can say is 'oof'
Any time I see that I immediately close the book. That Kind of third person narrative is annoying as hell.
