Yeah. There are some /fanfictions/ that are better than published works.
Most fanfics I've read are better than some published works
Then again, I don't read many books with romance

There's one trilogy I really enjoy and it's called All for the Game. The plot is a little out there (the mafia, a varsity sports team) but it was really good. The main relationship was lgbt and all the characters were EXTREMELY well-developed. The romance was done really well, both characters growing both individually and together.
To be honest it's the only book I want to read at this point, but unfortunately I can't buy it.
Romance tends to be handled poorly in books it's sad.
Truly. Part of why I am not a fan of a genre. No one knows how to do it. But I blame that on a culture that seems to have forgotten how to love. But that might be my old Japanese man speaking.
I think this is why I don't really like very much romance either. It kind of is too bad that a lot of authors don't really seem to handle it well, because a good romance can really add to a book but most of them seem to take away from it instead.
I quite agree.

Alright. Anyone else have an actual Character that's straight up evil?
One of my protagonists was born a psychopath (psychopathy is an inherited trait) and since her father was also a psychopath she developed into a sociopath. (sociopaths are made by their environment while growing up). So she's pretty darn evil. She's on the 'good guys' side because it helps her with her own personal goals.
She has ice powers, and her favorite move is to freeze the blood in people's veins.
Ooh that sounds really interesting.
Tbh I stopped creating original characters because for some reason their storylines just don't… work, if you know what I mean.
I need to read more crime fiction so I can get ideas for something that I've been stuck on. Anyone got any suggestions?
(I'm reading the Hannibal Lecter books.)

The June Boys is pretty good. A little Christian preachy but not too bad, and it was really interesting (it's about a serial kidnapper)

I Hunt Killers by Barry Lyga is a really good YA book. It's about a guy who's the son of this really notorious serial killer who's trying to track down a copycat killer. It gets pretty graphic so not really one I'd recommend if you're really squeamish to that kind of thing (which I'm guessing you're not since you're reading the Hannibal Lecter books, but just in case anyone else was interested).
When writing, what music genres do you listen to?
For myself I listen to punk rock, classic rock, country, movie soundtracks, videogame soundtracks, and classical.
I think for me it depends on the kind of thing I'm writing. If I'm writing a battle scene or something along those lines, I listen to hype or badass songs, but if I'm writing a cute scene it'll be sweet music, and for emotional scenes usually wistful songs.
I suck with genres so I just go for vibes
Whenever I play music while trying to write it fails because I start focusing on the words in the music instead of what I'm writing. So anytime I do play music while writing its in another language.
For me most of my music is in another language anyway😅
That way it's easier to focus on the vibes and mood I guess
Has anyone else used chance to help decide something for your stories? I quite literally flipped a coin to make choices for my sci-fi gore story, Winchester High….. There Will Be Blood.
For me, I often have a vague idea of where I'm going with a story and don't really plan it out, although I may have ideas of how it will end or certain scenes planned.
Which means.
Literally everything is left to chance.
eVERYTHING
I have 2 walls full of sticky notes and every time I get an idea or figure out a plot point it goes on the wall. There used to be a certain order but that went out the window a long time ago. When ever I need to find the idea I had I have to look through all those sticky notes.
