(Alright, give me just a minute.)
(okay!)
(Assuming we were ending the last chapter… if not, I can fix it to make more sense.)
Light filtered into Caroline and Brad's bedroom the next morning as the sun started to peek up. It was early in the morning, not even six a.m. yet, and Brad was already awake. He was up, and silently pacing back in forth in their bedroom. He seemed twitchy, and jittery as he did so. Though he didn't want to bug Caroline about it. Not until she woke up on her own.
Though he was freaking himself out. His heart was beating fast, and his mind seemed to be skipping over. One moment he had been in the kitchen, the next he was back in their room. He didn't understand what was wrong with him. Was he still, just that tired? That had to be the only logical explanation. It felt like he zoned out, and missed five minutes of his day. And it was only five-thirty in the morning.
He had been in the kitchen making breakfast for himself, and then felt like two seconds later he was already in the living room watching the news while eating. He couldn't explain it, and Caroline would probably think he was crazy.
His pulse was beating so fast, it felt like he had been running a marathon. It was starting to get him worked up. So giving up on waiting for her to wake up, he leaned over the bed and gently shook her awake.
"Caroline… babe, please wake up."
She groaned and swatted at him " Baby it's so early Come back to bed" she said in a tired voice she didn't know how but she was exhausted her whole body ached she didn't remember going to bed like this but right now she didn't want to leave this bed
"But… but Caroline," He insisted in a soft tone, shaking her arm again. "I can't. I can't fall asleep. I've been up since five on the dot, and I feel too energetic to go to sleep."
Running a hand through his hair, Brad began to pace once again. His head was starting to hurt, with the adrenaline pumping through veins. "I feel like I might literally bounce off the walls. And my memory is foggy. I feel like time is skipping over it's self. Or I'm spacing out. I don't understand what's happening, Caroline."
She sat up and looked at him her eyes a bright yellow "Brad your heart beat is out of control not noticing that you usually couldn't hear that from her distance and she wasn't touching him
Brad jerked around, giving her an odd look. His brow dropped, before slowly noting her strangely colored eyes. "Yeah… I know. But… but how could you?" He asked in a soft tone, making his way up to her. "And are you alright? Your eyes look… different."
She brought her hand touched below her eye
Watching her, Brad was quiet. He didn't mean to freak her out as well, but he was more than just a little rattled. His head was spinning, and heart pounding. Somehow she had figured out his racing heart without even touching him. There was too much going on for his liking.
"They're not normal colored. They're a yellow color."
She ran over to the mirror in the room "What the hell!?" She said her hands starting to shake and her heart beating wildly she started hyperventilating
"Hey- Caroline," Brad started, coming up and gently wrapping his arms around her waist. Pressed up against her, she would be able to feel his own racing heart. "Shh, just relax. We can figure this out."
"What's happening to us " she cried out
"Shh, Caroline. I don't know what's going on, but I know you need to relax." Brad whispered, resting his chin on her shoulder. Gently he rubbed up and down her arm to try and soothe her. Though he didn't think it was working great.
"I'm scared" she whispered
"I know, darling. But there has to be some logical explanation to this. Maggie is pretty good in the medical department, should we call her to figure out what's going on?" He asked her in a gentle tone, still rubbing her arm. He was trying to be as gentle as possibly, but her felt that was more of a challenge than usual.
She shook her head " Maggie doesn't know everything I know you guys are like best friends " she said since she woke up she had been emotional all emotions had been heightened
Which was going to make things even worse for Brad. He already had a hard time trying not to upset her, so with her heightened emotions, he was starting to grow nervous. "I know she doesn't know everything. But she could be a good place to start. If she can't help, we figure out what to do from then. Can we at least try that?"
"you try that" she said "I have a cookout to be at" she said
"Do you really think you should be going to events, in this state?" Brad asked her softly, holding on to her. "Can't you say you're not feeling well?"
" and let your parents hate me even more" she said
"Wait- that's today?" Brad asked, pulling back with wide eyes. "I completely forgot! But… I thought it was for dinner. It's currently five in the morning. We've got literal hours until we're suppose to be there."
"I'm supposed to help" she said quietly
"I- can't… can't you tell Taylor we've got a little bit of a bigger problem right now?" Brad asked her, looking up at her face. "Because I'm afraid I might have gotten a concussion or something. I keep spacing- and it's worrying me. And then you, with whatever is going on, it doesn't seem safe to do anything until we figure things out."
" your family already hates me I'm not missing this you can maybe your dad will push me this time" she said
"My family doesn't hate you, my dad just isn't a big fan of you. And he won't push you. It was an accident the last time, Caroline." Brad insisted in a soft tone, still holding on to her. "Please, Taylor isn't even going to be up yet. He isn't one for early mornings."
