I hate where you have to justify yourself as "No! Just because I have a dark sense of humour doesn't make me insane!"
or
"Please stop calling me scary, the only times I lash out at people is when they keep bothering me about doing shit that I don't care about and isn't my job."

@m1dn1g7t_ri0ts_13

You know that alignment chart that's like… Jock, Nerd, Goth, Prep? Well, I'm goth nerd, so I don't fit either set of stereotypes very well.

Exactly! And you can be more than one thing. For example, even though I don't fit the stereotypes I'm Jock, Nerd, and Goth.

  • Bi, pan, and poly people don't want to do it with everyone. I'm bi, and I don't crush on everyone I see.
  • Italian people aren't all super loud, I'm just loud and it's actually something I inherited from my German grandfather
  • Depression doesn't equal suicidal. I'm depressed, but not suicidal.
  • Aces aren't prudes or frigid, and also aren't 'smol pure beans'. I'll make and laugh at dirty jokes, and I'll listen to you talk about your SO and doing it with them. I won't think you're gross for having sex.
  • Theatre kids aren't super overdramatic and happy. Most theatre kids I know are depressed.

@HighPockets group

  • Teens. Are. Capable. Of. Having. Intelligent. Discussions.
  • So are kids. I had a long conversation about block scheduling and its benefits with a 3rd grader. Did I have to explain some words? Yes. Did she still get everything I said? Yes.
  • Autistic people aren't 'socially awkward geeks uwu'.

Yes! I'm Italian and am quiet unless you get to know me, the talkng with our hands thing is true tho

@HighPockets group

Sometimes I'm like "We don't talk with our hands!" and then realize that I was 3 inches away from slapping someone's face so yeah.
My grandfather has a super load voice though, and passed it down to my mom and her to me

And with the drama kids one… No, veryone in drama is a different person. I know people who fit that well, nerds, emos, punks, etc. Drama is a place where all the misfits go to feel safe

@HighPockets group

Yeah. I was talking to a Drama friend about it and she basically said "Misfits go to Drama to fit in and assume the role they want to have".
I'm not saying I'm the King of the Fairies, but I did put a lot of my anger and feelings into Oberon.
Also I would definetely rule the fairies if they asked me. I'd rule the entire fricking world by the end of the week with my mythological fairy army

@Brooklyn_Is_Here

My school is kind of sexist
like there is definitely a battle of the sexes happening, but it hasn't really affected our class that much, most of the boys are actually really nice
except for one girl
ugh, so sexist and the other one is really racist.

I'm not saying I'm Satan but… I am saying that

But I'm Satan… So…

Satanic buddies of doom?

Yeah same. And sometimes I think the sexism and racism combine. Like, everyone knows the dress code at my school is sexist, but a Hispanic girl got dresscoded for wearing something a white girl wore the next day and had nothing said to her. Like, I'm against showing up to school in, say, only a bra and underwear, but for wearing a shirt that falls just below your belly button? Seriously?

Deleted user

I had some lady dress code me for wearing sport shorts, exactly like the oes that a guy was wearing next to me

@HighPockets group

My friend routinely comes to school in spandex and a sweater and never gets dresscoded at all, but then the shirt thing above happened so it's horribly inconsistent.

This is why authors should do research!! This includes me as well: I'm writing an ADHD character and trying not to fall into stereotypes. What are some that I should avoid?

@HighPockets group

I'm ADD, not ADHD so take my advice with a grain of salt.
It's not that I'm always moving, I can sit still for a while, but when I'm idle I do stuff like chew my nails or play with my hair and stuff. I also do the Leg TapTM. My brain is always going and doesn't shut down at all, which is annoying. I zone out during things I find boring, but I can laser focus on stuff I like. Like, I zoned out during a mission thing I went on and I was laser focused during The Last Jedi, and they were the same length.

That we go “squirrel!” We aren’t dogs. ( the following is helpful tips as to what it IS like, at least for me) And it’s not like a sudden disconnect, it’s more of gradual loss of interest or like you ask a question and it takes like 10 minutes to get any real response out of them because they just can’t focus on answering the question. Daydreaming legit all the time. Auto-pilot mode (not really thinking about the task but doing it anyways). Difficulty remembering lists of things or instructions etc. Fidgety (leg bounce™️) picking at stuff, etc. Not hearing their name being called several times or not hearing instructions. The glazed-over into-the-distance unblinking stare in which they are just fully lost in their head. Thinking a million things in a continuous string that all have some kind of connection; sometimes it’s really obvious or maybe it’s only connected to that person because of a specific memory or feeling that they have towards it. Impulsive decisions and disruptiveness.

Also: People with ADHD (with hyperactivity) or ADD (sans hyperactivity) have a higher chance of having anxiety, depression, or both.

And if you didn’t know ADHD stands for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADD being the same thing w/o the hyperactivity)

Some people choose to medicate with amphetamines (adderall, vyvanse, medidate, etc.), which can become addictive, even to children. I low key got addicted to my meds and my parents had to take me off them bc I was super mean and v reliant on them. So it’s a person to person thing.

Hope this helps
