Say, a self referential joke about my book to start this chat off? Oh, no, I would never.

I came up with a plot idea recently and even though I’ve only started making the main characters for it I’m too attached too all of them already..

Which isn’t good either because none of them are going to be alive at the end of the story.

Deleted user

Ah shit, hate it when that happens. I'm pretty sure my characters will be alive by the end of my story? Except Dice. He will most likely die unless I have a really good reason to keep him around for any future plots.

@Starfast group

Idk how some of you guys kill off so many characters? I'm like way too attached to all of mine whoops. I do have at least one that I'm planning to kill off, but he's not even really a main character. I have another one that I was very certain I was going to kill off, but now that he's officially been written into the story I'm kinda getting less certain. On the one hand it would really raise the stakes, but on the other I feel like his death would be really devastating.

Deleted user

That's the point. Hurt your characters, tear them apart, and allow them to deal with the consequences. Also, if it raises the stakes, it's good and it works and plot-

Just…. Idk, fictional murder helps with plot so it's cool.

@Starfast group

I see your point but like, I want my characters to have something to be happy about. I don't want them to always be hurting and suffering. There's gotta be a balance. And with this particular character, I've already given him a really sad backstory, and I'd hate to kill him off at a point where things are starting to turn around and he's starting to move on from it. Also, I feel like this character has the potential to be really interesting and really add a lot to the story. It almost feels like wasted potential to kill him off.

Okay so pretty much, I got five characters that are trying to stop a war, one is the main character, one is a badass ninja and if she left all the others would likely die, one is a general, one is a mercenary secretly the prince of a kingdom, and the last one is playing two different people, one on the good side, and one on the bad side. The war they they are trying to stop has been going on for almost a century. You got one kingdom, and five armies. One army from the kingdom, two armies trying to help, and two armies against them. The "bad" side is technically trying to escape the "good" side because they have been imprisoned in a wasteland. The problem is that if the kingdom lets this army go they will leave and come back with an even bigger army to level them with. The other army on the "bad" side is being led by a crazy woman who just wants power. Lots of death and destruction happens. One of my main five dies, the problem may or may not be resolved. Find out… When I finally decide to get the whole fricken thing on paper and get it published.

Also why do I have the constant urge to make my characters all queer messes with little control over their lives? Does anyone else do this?

Deleted user

Like, Dante thinks he has a lot of control, and technically does, but he's insecure and gay. Maxwell is probably the only truly competent one, and he still ends up getting kidnapped. Idk blep face

@ElderGod-Icefire

God i have to rant like……….. I have this awesome idea that i wanna do but CHARACTERS AREN'T HAPPENING and for me the characters are usually the easiest part and then the plot just….naturally grows out from them but its not fucking working this time and I'm sitting here with an awesome idea and…no characters or real plotline. Anyone else have this happen???

@Rainy_is_back

I came up with this idea, and I might turn it into an actual story, but I was starting it as a fanfiction. I found an idea of off Pintrest, and it wasn't even technically a "writing prompt" :P

I've been working on a story where my mc lives in a world very much like ours. He has pyrokinetic abilities. Someone frames him for setting fire to his school's gym, resulting in the injuries and deaths of people. He fled the gym before the inferno could even begin because he remembers the strange scorch marks that he'd leave on things, accidentally setting things (books and posters) on fire, boiling pet fish alive, and accidentally burning his pet cat and brother to death. So, knowing that he's being framed, he sets out to discover the real culprit and their motive for the fire.

Oooh, hell yes! I'm getting major Agatha Christie energy from this tbh.
