Hello, I've been stalking this thread for awhile and I'm really interested in beginning in witchcraft. Do you have any resources or sites I can start on to begin my research? So far, the only thing I'm familiar with is tarot cards because I get mine read once a week by a youtube named Charmed Intuitions Tarot.
honestly i just do a bunch of googling on select topics that come up. even as someone who's been practicing for a while, i know so little in the grand scope of things. so i google. i google and i peruse various websites, gathering the general consensus and even little minute details that seem to differ. hence, how i found my patron.
also, having a system like this one here, where you can ask questions of people who have been practicing diligently for a while, is a great thing
So what would you reccommend the first thing I do to get started?
do you have any interest in a patron? not all witches and pagans do, some never worship a particular deity. should you wish to, do some research. research how to find yours, how they'll come to you, and if you already have a particular connection to a god(maybe some sort of fascination spawned from a childhood interest in greek/roman/egyptian/japanese/etc mythology) that could make things easier
sigils are fun as well, and usually aren't super hard for beginners. if you're interested in the star sign aspect, find your birthchart and see how that affects you and your practice! there are so many places to start, and so many small and little things you can start with
What should I put out as offerings for Aphrodite? I was thinking of baking something.
Bake something in a rose or seashell shape, or at least make it pink. Use rose petals as ingredients if you can. Make it rose and/or ocean-themed, basically.
even decorating it with an ocean theme could be a good idea
Okay I know I said I was gonna stop visiting so often but do any of y'all got a sun tea recipe I could use?
thanks <33
also birds. lots of birds and feathers.
Any deities associated with birds?? I feel like there is but I'm totally blanking
I think one of the sun gods, possibly. hunting birds and birds of prey could be a hunter, or owls could be athena/minerva
THAT'S WHO I WAS THINKING OF, THANK YOU!!
that'll be a swift exit from me
blessed be <33
Idk how to explain it, but I feel like some combination of too lazy/too skeptical to ever consider myself a real witch.
There are a lot of aspects of witchcraft that I like though, and I really don't consider myself completely lacking spirituality- I just don't know what to believe specifically.
But also I've always been like this to an extent. Even back when I was a devout Christian, I really kind of slacked off on everything from reading the Bible to prayer.
For another thing, I tend to like a lot of more tangible and personal aspects of witchcraft, like gardening, and communing with nature, or using things like essential oils and teas to produce mild psychological effects (like calming, energizing, focus, etc). So it's probably unfair for me to compare myself to people who actually do some work with spirits/deities, and also people who have been at it so much longer. Still, I can't help feeling like I'm only half-doing it.
(Sorry for the rant, I just figured maybe some of you would understand better than anyone else I know.)
I get that. You can definitely call yourself a witch if you'd like, as there's no real checklist of things you have to do in order to be considered one or anything.
Yeah, you can still totally practice the craft without connecting on a spiritual level. Bec, you can call yourself what you like, but please don't feel the need to no longer call yourself a witch just for that reason alone. A witch is a witch, irregardless of what spirituality/religion they partake in.
Thanks for the reassurance, guys. I appreciate it.
I always feel so bad when I can't muster up the energy/I forget to make offerings for Aphrodite and the fae, do you think they're mad?
Aphrodite probably not, being an omnicent being she would understand your life better than you do.
The Fae…….probably….yea….. If you work with them (I strongly would not) I would try to leave things out as much as possible.
(Gasp Eris!! Is that you!! I haven't seen you in forever!!)
Thanks for the advice, I've made some stuff for the fae so they should be vibing for now.
Yeah, I'll go make some more stuff for both the fae and Aphrodite tmmrw but today I'm just tired and in pain
I respect anyone who works with The Fae
They're lovely if you have no morals and no qualms about doing strange things

Oof, it's been awhile since I've talked on this board. Anyways…
Honestly, I'm pretty much the same way. I personally don't work with deities, as I'm still a believer in the basics of Christianity. (My parents are full blown Christians, and completely lost their shit when they found out I checked out a book on Witchcraft from my school library… Still shudders at the memory) I tend to lean more to the physical side of Witchcraft as well, like baking, cleaning as cleansing a space, paining sigils onto things, working with plants and essential oils, and doing simple small things like stirring my drinks in a clockwise motion to promote happiness and luck. I don't really do much at the moment though, as my parents have been breathing down my neck and terrifying me into abandoning the craft for awhile, but I don't think you need to be spiritual to be a witch. I think you only need your beliefs, and knowledge that there are intangible ways to sway the currents of the world to be a witch. Witchcraft is not defined to a singular practice of it. It's all up to the witch's interpretation. Which is the main reason I love it. Just harm none, and do what feels right to you.

They're… something else, that's for sure. What really wild is when you realize your best friend has many, many qualities of the Fae, and that they're effected by spells against the Fae.
