Anyone have tips on choosing what kinds of materials you want your tools to be made of?
Right now I'm specifically looking at pendulums, and honestly, a lot of the crystal pendulums I've looked at haven't been sitting right with me, if you get what I mean?
uhh
i'd just look at a bunch of different stones/crystals/rocks, see which ones vibe well with your Divination Brain, and then try finding pendulums of those materials. that's all i can really think.
could the metal be an issue at all, as well? like the chains if thats the kind you're looking for?
I don't think so, a basic silver chain is perfectly fine with me.
Just some crystals, even ones I typically like, kind of turn me off in pendulum form for some reason. Like I've always been really drawn to amethyst, but in a pendulum, it just doesn't quite vibe with me.
As I keep looking, I'm thinking Green Aventurine might be a good bet.
And like maybe opalite or moonstone, but I've never had any of those before (I only have like 4 crystals atm oops) whereas I have some aventurine sitting by my desk.
Maybe looking for crystals/stones that suit the purpose you’re aiming to do with your pendulum, and see if any of those sit right with you in pendulum form?
I just made a little jar necklace for Aphrodite for me to wear around!!
It's got some dove feathers, a pearl, rose quartz, and garnet, as well as crushed red rose petals.
Oooh! Fancy~! That must’ve taken some time to put together.
A bit, but not too long. I make jewelry in my spare time so once I had all the materials it wasn't very hard
Ooh, nice! [still doesn’t have any crystals of my own]
The pendulum thing is not working for me.
But I'm gunna try out Ogham as an alternate divination process, learning about it makes something just click for me
[still doesn’t understand the purpose of pendulums…]
You guys have any useful spells? Like just anything you think a beginner should know would be great.
only types of spells i've really tried are jar spells, chants essentially, and luck spells, but i feel like those are just fine?
[still doesn’t understand the purpose of pendulums…]
If this is your form of asking, I'll happily explain, as will anybody else here…
Okay, hi, hello, yes, I've come to talk/rant a bit? I'm sorry if it comes off as ranty, but I do have some things to say and questions to ask.
I have just recently told my parents I am no longer Christan because the God and I just do not vibe at all. Especially old testament God (I'm cool? With Jesus, but The whole him technically being the other God too just ruins the whole deal)
I've been looking around for a religion/practice that falls in line with what I personally believe, and this just falls right in line with it. I'd love to practice and learn, but a) I have a horrible time researching things because my brain doesn't like it, and b) my parents are Uber Christan and would have a heart attack if I did anything like this around them.
It's even worse because my aunt is Wiccan (at least that's what my dad said, not 100% sure), so my dad actually knows a lot about this stuff and would recognize most of it. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I could start on secret? Just some things I could work into my life without my parents noticing.
start developing a for-show love of rocks. like in general. geology. and then start to incorporate your crystals into that.
get into scented candles and then buy ones that are the colors you need
pretty jewelry with crystals? nobody's gonna bat an eye. it's just like gemstones. they're pretty, humans like shiny things
doodle and throw your sigils into doodling. imbue your doodles with your intentions and then pack em back away in your notebooks. you're good
nature walks for 'exercise' and then you actually get exercise but also get to be in tune with your surroundings
chill kitchen witchery that just looks like normal things. no one's gonna notice that you always stir a certain way, or that you add cinnamon to your hot chocolate(and if they do…it's a spice. people do that lmao)
have…plants???
I agree that kitchen witchery, crystals, color magick and sigils are pretty lowkey.
Another idea: Meditation. Nobody really thinks it's sus, in my experience at least.
oh yeah for sure, people who aren't practicing do meditation all the time. therapists regularly recommend it as a way to clear your head and calm down
Thanks!! I've always had an affinity for gems and the such anyway, so it won't be too much of a stretch. I have a few candles, and I'll definitely be working on getting some more. Plus, art is someone no one would question with me, so that's nice too. I'm also going to be able to work the cooking parts in too
The walking might be a bit of a stretch, but my parents would see it as a sign I'm trying to get fit for once.
The plants would probably be the hardest part. My parents have known me to not really enjoy/ be good at caring for them, and a sudden interest in them would be strange for me.
Again, thanks for the advice! Hopefully my dad doesn't read into my actions too much aha
Meditation would be hard personally, but I'll definitely have another go at it!
I would definitely try it again, I used to have a hard time too, but one thing that helped me was finding chill 'spiritual' music that I really vibed with to play in the background.
Mm, yeah that sons like it would work!
I've also seen mention of essential oils on here, but I know for a fact I wouldn't be able to use those because of some bad experiences with them. Also, same with mediation, but to a lesser degree that I know with time I could stop associating it with the memories
not all of these are necessary things, so pick what you can and want to do! i love plants when i can keep them alive, and i grew my own sage for bundling this year. i also have a bunch of succulents, because those are pretty hard to kill, and of course my ever-growing strawberry patch. i love plants, and i love growing useful plants, which i feel like helps me keep in tune with my practice. but not everyone does, and not everyone needs it!
I've actually been wanting to get some succulents!
I just, I'm not really drawn to gardening in general, does that make sense? I'm pretty sure I have a slight allergy to grass too
Me and plants/earth just… Idk, just don't mix well
Totally makes sense. I'm the same way. I like plants, but I don't have a real interest in growing them (though hopefully I'll force myself into some gardening this winter).
Yeah
My dad has use do a garden this year and I honestly kinda hated it
Now, caves? That is my jam
Also, I'll probably be along a lot of questions pertaining to things that I've experienced to get concrete answers as to whether it's my mind doing the fuckie wuckie with me or actual stuff that genuinely happened
