You don't have to, dependent on the area. If its a small town and everyone goes to the same church or somethin, sure why not have it only one religion? It's okay to be diverse. I'm diverting my characters right now. They used to be all Republican Christians, now their tons of different stuff.

Hey I'm a satanist (go to urban dictionary to know what I mean, also here's a link to a video that explains it pretty well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sk7ORDgwlq0) so if you want to ask me anything about that I'll be up for it.

Interesting…. It's weird to me, but hey, we're all human.

That's very interesting. I haven't actually heard of Satanism before, could you elaborate?

@Joneathan

Well really we don't believe there is a God, and it's just respect everyone and follow the key rules. here are some of them.

  • One should strive to act with compassion and empathy towards all creatures in accordance with reason.
  • The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit hat should prevail over laws and institutions.
  • One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.
  • The freedom of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo your own.
  • Beliefs should conform to our best scientific understanding of the world. We should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit our beliefs.
  • People are fallible. If we make a mistake, we should do our best to rectify it and resolve any harm that may ave been caused.
  • Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.
    So be kind and do justice and don't harm. They way I kind of explain it to my friends is that it's a treat-yourself day and a I-should-get-work-done day mixed together.

That's quite interesting, is there any specific holidays or ceremonies?

@ImNotCrazyImAFangirl

I’m agnostic, but religion is absolutely fascinating to me and I actually like having conversations about it. I go to a Christian school, which might influence that a little, but I really love learning more about other people’s religions. I also know a lot about Greek mythology, though I don’t know if that counts as a religion.
I am interested in Wicca though, do any of you know about that?

Oh. Okay. Unsure how I feel 'bout that but okay.

This is Laveyan Satanism correct? I am not particularly religious myself, although I have some religion in my life. Mainly though, I study all types of religions, not only the three Abrahamic religions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam, but things like Wicca and Satanism. If it's Laveyan Satanism, I know about it.

@Becfromthedead group

I'm just gonna hop into this chat, because all this talk about religion is really interesting, even if I don't have much input to give. (I'm just another agnostic. I was formerly Christian, though.)

LadySeshiiria

Wow, people are getting too pc to the point that asking a good question is hindering to them. I'm Mormon. I'm sorry we grew up in an age like this.

@Becfromthedead group

Yeah, my family still is pretty religious, but they don't know about me, so that's fun. I mostly know about the Methodist church as far as Christianity goes, since that's what I grew up in. I just never really fit in, and I don't necessarily agree with all teachings of any single religion 100%.

@Starfast group

I'm Christian. I went to Catholic high school and used to go to church like every Sunday. Within the past few years though, we've had some stuff happen within my family that I'd rather not get into but we've kind off fallen out of touch with our faith. My parents still go to church sometimes, but not every Sunday like we used to. I still believe in God and all that, but I don't agree with everything 100% Like I'm totally fine with LGBT+ stuff, for instance.

Or is that racist?

It's only racist if you make it racist. If anything, having a more diverse cast of characters would make you less racist (In theory, at least).
Just do tons of research. Google things, read stuff written by people who identify with the groups your interested in. And tbh, I know tumblr doesn't exactly have a stellar reputation but they can be great for asking other people about different religions, races, sexualities, etc. Like I've definitely been to an asexuality tumblr just so I can ask specific questions about my asexual character.
Another bit of advice that's helped me a lot is to google, "how to not write a(n) _____ character." You'll usually find blogs or forum posts written by people who identify with the group in question and they'll tell you all about the tropes and stereotypes that they can't stand.

@Masterkey

I'm a Christian, just try to follow what Jesus said encompasses the entire law: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and love your neighbor as yourself. Das it? Simple in theory, hard in practice when you're a selfish, prideful human bean. Heh.

@LudibrousLainey

I have no clue what religion I am. I was raised Christian, then I was catholic, then I was baptist, and now I just believe in treating people respectfully and stuff. I'm basically a mutt of religion, lol.

shurikenwolfbadass_13

@Masterkey I try to tell people that too! So many people I know think that Catholicism and Christianity are different, when Catholicism is really just a branch of the religious group of Christianity. I think by "Christian" that they mean Protestant.

@Masterkey

Yeah, Protestantism and Catholicism can be pretty different, but in the end, they follow the same God and believe in the same path to salvation. Well, sometimes even that can change a little, but overall it's Christianity.

@LudibrousLainey

Well, catholic and baptist are still both Christian

Good point. Baptists really don't like Catholics for some unknown reason, and think that we're all really strict and are wrong in believing certain things. Plus some of beliefs can be really different. So I felt like I had to seperate them out a little bit. But you make an excellent point.
