I'd like to add to the previous discussion about catcalling
If you ever feel really unsettled by something someone is saying
and it is safe to do so
take out your phone and start/pretend to start taking pictures of them
I say if 'it is safe to do so' because if you're alone, this could be dangerous since it might make the person mad
I've done this while in more crowded places so I couldn't be attacked or something if someone got aggressive.

Going along with that, if you think someone is following you, don't do the four left turn thing. Pull out your phone, and if you can call someone, call them. Say you're just checking in on them or you're wondering what's for dinner, something casual you and the person you're calling can have a conversation about. The potential stalker won't pounce if they have a witness. If no one picks up, or you know no one will pick up, you get to test your improv skills! Have a fake conversation with someone on the other end. Make sure you mention you have plans. Say something like "Is Mark coming later tonight? I hope I get there before him", "What time is it again? (check your fake watch) I think I'll be late", or something along the lines of "I'll see you when I get there", or "I'll see you in a bit, save some food for me." Potential stalkers usually won't try something if they know other people are expecting you to be somewhere in a set amount of time. After that, if they're still following you, and your destination is far away, maybe reroute to a nearby friends house, or a close store or restaurant. If they follow you in, ask the staff to call and uber or your parents something. Make someone's aware that you could be in danger, and make sure to stay in the public eye. Don't take back roads or lonely streets.

If you turn left four times, you'll end up in the same spot, and if somebody wasn't following you, they'd have no reason to walk in a circle.
