I’m really liking the advice on this chat so far!
So I’ve been wanting to experiment with more masculine style. I own a couple of large flannels and sweatshirts, and I can dress from the waist up pretty masc, but I am really thicc, for lack of a better explanation, and it’s hard to hide curves. Any recommendations for bottoms? (Also it’s not that I’m uncomfy dressing super femme, I just want to mess around with new styles, and dressing up like a guy feels kinda nice from time to time)
i will always stand by buying mens clothes if you can find some that fit! belts, too, especially like the chunkier guy belts in neutral colors. boots are very good for that masc look, as well as athletic shoes. you won't be able to fully hide them but you can very easily mask them a bit. i also really like homemade cut off capri/jorts when i'm feeling masc, even if jorts are usually a fashion don't
You think I would have any luck finding men’s pants even if my legs are short? I mean, I guess I could always look in the boys’ section if height is a problem.
i do! and also remember, it's really easy to find sewing tips on pinterest and youtube for making them shorter. if you just snip snip, then fold over to hide the slight fraying, and sew, you get a cool cuff and shorter jeans!
Oh yeah lol
I sew and still briefly forgot sewing is a thing I can do.
jhdfh i don't sew but sewing is a really good way to alter any clothes that you wish you could wear but are too small, big, or long
I agree with Crocs, men's clothes slap! Men's pants have pockets that aren't garbage, and men's shirts are looser and don't have plunging necklines or cling to my boobs.
I have a question/would like some tips-
I have a rectangular body shape, I think. A small bust, hip dips, but thiccish thighs. On my "masculine" style days I wear a binder, to appear more flat (here's an extra tip, btw, for those who wear binders- if you wear shirts with patterns on it, they distract from the small bump left over.) Anyways, my question- how to I look more feminine on my "feminine" style days? I wear high waisted jeans, and usually tuck the top in, to make my hips look better, but I don't know what to do with the chest area. I have decent bras, so I don't think that's the problem. I like my body, so I don't want to make it look like I have bigger breasts than I do, but I want them to look better, ya know? Presentable, I guess. "Feminine" style days are hard for that reason. I don't know what collars suit best for my body type and stuff.
Ooh! I actually know how to help! Wear bright shirts, shirts with ruffles, shirts with any sort of difference. Chunky necklaces can help too. It'll help draw attention
but don't listen too much to me, Crocs knows way more about fashion than I do
Bright shirts make sense, but not really my style unfortunately. Most if my clothes are grey or dull in some way. I like the necklace idea, and I have a few shirts that are "different". I think they kinda help.
ice, your advice is just as important and useful!
wear belts, ones that cinch the waist, to kinda mimic more of an hourglass but not figure. fit and flare dresses and puffy sleeves are very good. necks: scooped, v-neck, and sweetheart are all going to be your friend when it comes to your chest area. also detailed collars! just to dip into pants and allow you some creativity and options you may have missed or not been aware of while shopping, flared legs are super good. also pleated
and if you're wearing dresses, again, anything cinched, belted, or fit and flare is going to help not make your chest look bigger, just even things out and whatnot. also, vests look good on your body type! enjoy that, my body type does not at all flatter vests lmao

ice's chunky necklace idea is very good with your preference of muted tones. it allows you to add accent colors, which really help complete an outfit!

Thanks! I only know that due to researching clothes for my body type lmao
Thanks guys! I don't own any vests, but I think they wouldn't look to bad lol.
So I'm a tall, pale gorl with red hair & absolutely no curves (other than some slightly thicc thighs), so I feel like I'm the textbook definition of "nothing looks good on me." I'm also really modest which makes the scenario even worse. Does anything know anything that would look good on me? I'm open to many styles.
oh girl, you have a whole world of clothes at your dispense. no curves mean bra-less is a look that you can pull off. you know those cute summer dresses that are sleeveless completely or that slight v-neck that wouldn't work with a bra? yeah, you can rock em. the less curves you have, especially in the rear area, the shorter dresses and skirts you can wear, without the 'oops i forgot those ride up on me'
also, definitely look at thrifting videos on youtube! a lot of the youtubers who do them have really aesthetic styles, and i'm sure a bunch of them would fit you! vintage blazers and slacks from thrift stores would be really cute, or things like power suits, though budgeting can be a slight issue with those. bralettes, both lacy and not, and sheer tops are going to likely look great on you too. and never fear shorts, because long legs are hot babe
I would say vintage too. Men's and women's vintage is usually really modest and looks good on taller people, imo.
Thank you Crocs!! I have a pretty vintage style, so I've actually been wanting to go thrifting for a while now. You actually got my style really right. Why does Notebook advice make me feel confident?? Anyway, I'll def be putting this advice into effect!
Hey, fashion corner, how do you find men/boy jeans that fit? I went to the store the other day and tried on several jeans but they were too long and didn't really fit right at my butt.

buy them big or get them used! if you buy big, then you can alter to make smaller in certain areas that need it, such as the waist once you know it fits your butt. it's a lot easier than making it bigger, that's for sure. also, cut them!

i'm glad that fits! i'd even recommend getting a thredup account, for thrift like shopping if thrift stores aren't open in your area! goodwill outlets are also one of my favorite places to shop, but bring gloves for digging through the bins!
i don't know why it makes you feel confident, but that's probably the best maybe indirect compliment i've ever gotten, and i'm super happy i can help boost that!
yeah crocs you're fucking awesome
I know, it's nowhere near spooky season yet, but it can be spooky if i want it to be and I like to think about this type of thing ahead of time (especially since last year i was literally working on my costume until i left)
any Halloween costume ideas that aren't either sexy or childish? also preferably something recognizable bc it gets frustrating having everyone ask what you are. (yes i still trick-or-treat, i know, i'm a baby)
I was thinking of doing, like, a Victorian witch?? I'd really like to do Scarlet Benoit but no one knows who that is other than the TLC fandom
a victorian witch sounds like a really cool idea!
try going to thrift stores, too, and finding pieces that strike up your imagination. if you find something like a hat, that makes you think of a decently well known character, or a skirt that's versatile enough to work for a bunch of different things, then it's really easy to build off of that one item.
anyone else have any actual ideas? i'm just telling people to thrift shop again lmao
