Any stories about humans outwitting supernatural creatures?
Any stories about humans outwitting supernatural creatures?
Let me find one.
Search the legend of the leprechaun. It will tell of a human outwitting a fae.
(I'm still behind because imma chronic procrastinator. I may have some questions in a bit)
Bruh that wolf one is nice. People don't usually associate werewolves or wolves in general with Ireland. and I like how the human bodies stay when the wolves come out to play. Neato.
Hey! One of the cultures in the story I'm writing draws a heavy amount of inspiration from traditional Celtic folklore, so I just wanted to say thanx for making this thread! You're awesome π π π
Oh cool! Thanks for using it! It hasn't been told enoughβ¦
I just made an account with the Ellis Island Foundation and got to see my grandpa's records! Sure enough, Irish and Scottish heritage, duh. He had grey eyes and brown hair, just like me (also a "fresh" complexion rather than a "fair" one like most the guys on there, whatever that means?). In two years, my family will have been in America for one century, and I'm a third generation immigrant. That was fun to learn :)
My heritage is mostly written in our family. In a notebook. It's something. It has some good stuff hidden in it, but other stuff, I dare not mention, if I would like to keep my honor. Clan Gunn isn't a big fan of sharing secrets⦠Especially if the other clan is a rival. What clan are you from again @Owen? Feel free to PM me if you don't want to share it.
I don't really know how clans pass down, whether through father or mother. On my dad's side, I don't really know anything other than they're also Irish and Scottish. I don't know of any surnames on my dad's side that point to clans either, mostly just because there's no way to find them other than ask around, but we're kinda distanced from that side. I'm much more familiar with my mom's side. My great-great grandmother, going through purely matriarchal (mom, grandma, great grandma, great-great grandma) had the surname Kelly (maiden name). My grandma and sister have always told me I belonged to the Kelly clan and familiarized me with the clan motto- "God is my tower of strength". I don't know if clans pass down through the matriarchal line, but I guess we just informally decided that's how it goes lol.
Oo here's a fun story about my family- a long long time ago we were Lords and Ladies, and we lived in Castle Fraser, which is now a popular tourist site in Scotland. One of the Ladies in my line didn't want to marry any of the other nobles, and she fell in love with this peasant dude. The Castle peeps taking care of her, some of which I'm sure were kin, didn't approve of the relationship at all. They kicked her out and stripped her of her title. The two ended up getting married (and I descend from them), but my family has basically been banished from our old castle and we've never been back. While my mom and dad were in Scotland, they wanted to get inside just to say we made it back to our ancestral home, ya know, be rebellious and whatnot. Turns out they missed the tour group and never go to go in lol. They did get to wander around the gardens at least.
I don't know how to go about fact checking this story, since it was so long ago, but it's been passed down through generations.
Hey! We had a castle tooooooo!!!!
Gunn's Castle also known as Clyth Castle was situated on a rock above the sea, eight miles south-west of Wick, Caithness. It was once a splendid and strong castle but virtually nothing remains. The fortress was held by the Gunns during their feud with the Clan Keith. (That's why I was worried about telling you stuff π we still have hard feelings with clan Keithβ¦)
Our motto is hardcore π
Aut pax aut bellum (Either peace or war)
Also that's really cool. There are somethings that I can't tell you, bc of the fact that I don't know if you have anyone that belongs to clan Keith. That is the most spoke of rule, that cannot be broken. Clan Gunn and Clan Keith are master's at hodling grudges and feuds. Nowadays, it's just a grudge.
That's some neat stuff lol. I don't think anyone in my family is a Keith, I haven't heard of that one.
Ms. Kelly became Mrs. Conway, and I know that's a clan too. I would associate myself with that clan as well, I suppose, but it's a lot smaller. I'm friends with an Armstrong family and I think I've heard of Clan Gunn before you, but I don't think I know anyone else in it. I guess I just don't know which clan is "mine", either Kelly, Conway, or something lost on my dad's side.
Not gunna lie, Clan Conway has a cooler coat of arms, motto, tartan, and they even have a signature knitting pattern.
Google's not being very helpful on helping me find out which genealogical line to trace to find my clan. Then again, clans were more about loyalty than kinship, so can I just adopt a clan? That's what they did back then. I mean I have the ties to Clan Conway. I feel like that's against the rules lmao, but Google's not really showing me the rules on the first place. I've been planning on changing my surname to Conway once I turn 18 anyway, so maybe I should start saying I belong to Clan Conway. Do I belong to Kelly? Conway? The world may never know.
I dunno. My clan is just very old. We were the first to settle in Northern Scotland, after we were taken by the Vikings. Then once we had enough of the Vikings, we took their king's eldest son, took him back to Scotland, married him off to the princess, and ta daaa clan Gunn super babies. So our clan was founded off sheer spite to the Norse. (Elias hates it so much π)
Clan Gunn super babies π
History really do be like that
Just choose whichever one draws you more. That's what matters. On the other hand, my family and Elias' family have to come to realize that in Clan Gunn, there hasn't been a record of a Scot marrying a Norseman in 700+, and Elias' family has made the joke on multiple occasions that they are going to steal back the Scottish princess and make her Norse again. (So I'm currently in that boat, and let's just say the familt in Scotland that know about my engagement, are none too happy. But I could care less π)

Yeah π I mean they were the royal blood of a Viking clan and a Scottish Clan, so why not super babies?

Oml, what a predicament. Someone better document this-
There's gonna be another feud π
Just gonna boop into the conversation: I'm Clan Cunningham, and our motto is "Over Fork Over" whatever the fuck that means. but our animal is the unicorn so
Alright I think I can settle on Clan Conway. It's an ambiguous, spread out clan and draws me a bit more than Kelly. The motto is "With faith and love".
I'm just gunna be making popcorn for when your marriage kicks of this feud lol.
