Exactly! We practice rain or shine, storm or clear skies. The football players at my school refuse to practice in the rain because they might get muddy. The poor, innocent pansies. They know nothing XD
OOF
you right tho
We're not allowed to practice on the football field because it's grass, and apparently football players are the only people who have a need for that field.
Yeah, our practice field is also the practice field for the soccer teams. There's holes in the ground everywhere and our field in constantly needing to be repainted every 3 days. The football players threw a huge fit when one, only ONE of their 15 treadmills broke and the school practically handed them the money for a brand new one on a silver platter. But when we asked just ONE new tuba to replace the one that a freshman had dropped, we were told that we had to pay for it ourselves :(
A brand new tuba costs less than a brand new treadmill… Why did they not give you the money? I would guess a heavy thing with politics.
Yeah or they wanted our football team to stop whining XD, I swear the football players hate my school's marching band more than anyone else in the school. Especially because they never win anything and we… well… we don't suck as much as they do XD
Last year, every team in our school had beaten this one team, Eastside, who weren't as good as us in everything. At the homecoming bonfire, one of the kids from our band goes, "Oh yeah, and we've beat Eastside, too." The football hadn't beat Eastside, and threw a huge fit. It was bad, and we got yelled at for starting stuff.
Sometimes, I feel like they start stuff just to make it seem like they're the victims XD
True. I play softball and do marching band. I think sometimes that the administrators really don't don't care about female sports, or things that they don't consider. They sponsor the football team, and the basketball team, sometimes the baseball team, but they leave us in the dust…
It seems as though if you are not on a what is considered a guy's sport team, you don't really matter to the administration.
Yeah, bout that we complained to the admin, and they didn't think we were serious, and then we went to state, and surprised everybody, and then if they didn't care about us then, (which they still didn't…) we could go complain to the senate. We did, and they gave us the money we needed for jerseys, and new equipment. I also convinced them to buy a contrabass clarinet as a little extra…
That is amazing and you are now my idol. How did you convince them to give you guys that kind of money?
We threatened to move to another school, and play for them, and then they didn't want to have to recruit another team…
Nice, that wouldn't really work for band though, there's too many of us for us to threaten to move schools so… and they already had to deal with my section enough this year with what happened over our trumpet sweatshirts…
It kinda would work, threaten to move schools and take the instruments. Then, instead of them laughing. They will realize that they would have to buy more instruments, and these would have to be brand new… that would make them really mad.
What happened with the trumpet sweatshirts? I am a flute player, and we joke around about how we want to plot against each other to get the best spot in the flute section. I don't think that they were joking about plotting about wrecking each other…
We put something on the sweatshirts that out band director didn't approve of even though we got them approved by administration and that's all we had to do to get to order/keep them. He got upset and took them away, we complained to admin and said we either wanted our sweatshirts back or our money back. We only got them back because admin didn't want to pay over $400 for the sweatshirts.
Yeah, they weren't too happy with us, but we had the whole band on our side so that helped. Everyone agreed that it was super unfair and that we should get them back XD
That's good. That you got your sweatshirts back.
Our school had indoor drumline shirts that said RIP (school name) indoor drumline because it was the last year that it was going to be around. Then all the stuff happened with the school shootings, and one day a kid walked in school with the shirt on and had his arms crossed over indoor drumline, so it just said RIP (school name) and the admin freaked out… It was funny because all the indoor drumline kids were questioned, until they showed him what the shirt said in entirety…
Oh no! Did they get to keep the shirts tho? Our's said "(school name) Trumpets 17-18" on the front with a picture of an olympic wreath around a trumpet. On the back it said "I'd hit that!" with a picture of the really high note at the end of our chords.
Yes. They got to keep the shirts. Pffftttt. Flutes can hit higher notes than that any day…
lol, I'm sure XD. What made it even funnier tho was that the note was the D above the staff that we like to call "Mega-D" because there's low D below the staff, high D on the staff, and then Mega-D above the staff. But nobody can read ledger lines unless they're in band/orchestra/choir so that automatically cuts out about 1/4th of the school that don't understand the reference, so in all reality, the sweatshirts weren't that bad XD
low brass had shirts that said low brass kicks (picture of a donkey) on the (picture of grass).
they also had shirts with the Sweet n Low logo with the with the word 'brass' underneath
