Azura closed the door without a sound, and she and Farron were trying to keep their breathing quiet. She laid her head back against the door so she could hear if the sound got too close. Eventually, the people moving down the hallway stopped for a bit. The doorknob jiggled, but it was locked. Azura looked around the room quickly, and saw a closet full of fancy clothes. Trying not to make too much noise, she ushered Farron in, then tiptoed in herself and moved some clothes in front of them.
Farron shut the closet door behind them carefully before the door to the room busted open. They both held their breath and it was then when Farron noticed how close he was to Azura. He shook his head to get his head back in the moment.
Azura heard voices, maybe of about three men.
"I was sure I saw light pink hair come through this door. . ." the deepest voice grunted. A loud snort came from farther away.
"Just an illusion. We all hope we'll find her, or the queen'll have us all fired."
"I know I saw her. At least I think I do. . ." the voice trailed off, probably because the man was looking around the room. Eventually, though, he continued speaking.
"You know, I don't understand why she wants Azura back so badly anyway," he said. "Seems to me she hated her daughter."
Azura was holding her breath.
Yep, I totally agree, she thought.
After a few more moments, and more conversation there door shut and there was silence. Farron released a breath and ran a hand over his face.
“They’re gone…” He breathed.
Azura went to the window; she stood there without saying a word. Her eyes were getting watery, and she was trying so hard not to break down.
Farron walked up behind her, slowly wrapping his arms around her waist, “You okay?” He asked gently.
A tear streamed down her face, but she was putting all of her might into not breaking down. She didn't say anything, for fear that she would give way. All she could do was look at him, with watery eyes, and shake her head no. She folded her arms on top of his and hung her head low.
Farron wiped away the tear with the pad of his thumb softly, “I’m not going to judge if you cry, you know.” He said quietly, placing a kiss to her forehead before resting his chin on her head.
And that was it. She buried her head in his shoulder and let the waterworks flow.
"I just don't get it," she said between sobs. "Why does my mother hate me so much? What in the world did I ever do to her? What did I do that was so bad that made her hate me?"
Farron sighed a little, “I don’t know, Azura. But if you want me too then I can find out. I may be a prince and have my duties to my city but… I’m still your best friend first.”
She looked up at him again, this time smiling a bit through the tears.
"I appreciate that. But I really don't think I need to know. I'm gone now, and there is nothing she can do that I wont be able to handle."
When she was looking up at Farron, she noticed how cute his messy hair was.
"Farron? I-" she broke eye contact for a split second. "you mean the world to me. Thank you. And I really mean that."
“No need to thank me, Az. I… I’d do anything for you.” Farron swallowed, the only sign of his nerves that showed. He ran a hand through his hair, making it even messier then before.
"I've got a question for you," Azura said quietly, barely over a whisper. "If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be?"
Farron stayed quiet for a moment before a small smile bloomed on his lips, “Wherever you were…”
She smiled a bit and moved her gaze to his lips.
"Good, because I would want to be wherever you are."
"Azura can I… m-may I… can I kiss you?" Farron flushed a light shade of pink bit his lip while he waited for a response.
She didn't answer. She just leaned in and pressed her lips up against his.
Farron kissed her back softly. He let his hands sit gently at her waist and draw her closer.
Azura was the first to draw herself back, but she really didn't want to. She smiled, and put her arms around Farron's waist to hug him.
Farron rested his head on top of Azura's with a small smile, hugging her back, "I'm kissing you for longer next time…" He muttered.
She giggled. She had forgotten what it felt like to be in someone else's arms. It was a bit of a bittersweet experience, so she pulled herself away.
"Why did the guards from Rosgard get in? They couldn't have broken in, so why were they here?" she asked. And then she realized that they might not be able to stay here for as long as they wanted.
Farron ran a hand through his hair slowly, “I am unsure. They could have been here on official business that doesn’t involve us but I really don’t know…” He sighed, feeling bad for not having answers, “Sorry…”
"Sorry? This isn't your fault. But we just need to figure out what to do, that's all. You don't have to have all the answers."
“I know I know I just… feel like I need to be trying to do more so you don’t have to go back to Rosguard…”
"Farron, look at me, " she said. She pulled her hand up to his cheek. "You are the one person in my life who truly cares about me. That, in itself, is more than enough. I don't need a guardian. I need a friend. And you have already surpassed any expectations."
