“I appreciate you sharing this with me. It is… unusual for me to experience such kindness.” Damian smiled gently, taking a few more leaves out and handing the bag back.
“I appreciate you sharing this with me. It is… unusual for me to experience such kindness.” Damian smiled gently, taking a few more leaves out and handing the bag back.
She tucked the bag away. "That's a bit sad. Luckily, you have me now!"
“Lucky, indeed.” Damian appeared to have calmed down a lot after some comforting and a snack. “What did you think of Fletcher?”
"He's…interesting." Catori rubbed the back of her neck, chuckling. "Very emotional, indeed."
“I must be honest, the only one of my brothers I see leading the kingdom besides myself is Pine.” Damian sighed, somewhat begrudgingly respecting his brother.
"Oh? Why is that?" She asked curiously.
“He’s a weasel. Crafty. Cunning. Manipulative. Illusions and emotional control.” Damian replied disdainfully. “But he has his weaknesses. Most of them to do with slaughter, but I suppose as king he’d have plenty of people to deal with that for him.”
"Hm. And you aren't cunning?" Catori raised an eyebrow, an amused glint in her eyes as she listened.
“Do you believe I am?” Damian quirked an eyebrow, slightly interested by Catori’s reply.
"I do." She said simply, smiling.
“You flatter me.” Damian noted in amusement. “You’re already my bride, so why?”
"Why flatter you? Bride or not, I actually like you, Damian. And I have no ulterior motive." Catori turned to Asterin, petting him happily.
“I find that hard to believe.” Damian scoffed, turning his back on her to get back up on Quintus.
"Believe what you want. I know what I feel." Asterin crouched to give her a hand, and she managed to get up on him, if extremely ungracefully.
“Are you ready to go, Princess?” Damian’s tone grew icy now that he believed the princess was lying to his face.
"I believe so. And Damian?" Catori looked up at him, gaze determined. She was going to make him believe her, however long that took. "Lying isn't something I do often, in case you were wondering. Honesty is one of the values I was raised with, and I'm not about to drop it." With that, she nudged Asterin, and they started moving, back on the path they had been.
”She isn’t going to put up with your brooding.” Quintus neighed in amusement. Damian rolled his eyes, making Quintus move forwards. The supply carriage began to move again as well.
“Oh shut up, will you?” Damian snapped, listening to Quintus as he continued to chuckle.
Catori spoke quietly to Asterin, a few feet ahead, despite the fact that he couldn't vocally respond to her. She was fiddling with something in her hand, that shone when it caught the light for a few seconds.
The glint caught Damian’s eye. Although uncharacteristic, he found himself wanting to hear Catori’s voice. “What’s that?” He called from behind her.
"Hm? Oh, this." She held it up carefully, and a silver chain dangled from her fingers. There was a small pendant on it, a silver sparrow.
Damian looked at it curiously, prompting Quintus to go faster. “You like sparrows?”
"All birds, but sparrows have somewhat of a special meaning between my brothers and I." Catori tucked hr hair back behind her ear, and fiddled with the pendant. "They're supposed to symbolize strength in groups, a close bond, and protection."
“My brothers and I are like beta fish.” Damian snorted, amused my his own joke.
Catori laughed. "Sparrows and beta fish. Quite different."
“What does that make us? Or are we just a sparrow and a beta fish?” Damian watched Catori curiously.
