Ellie bolted up. "Fay, no, I'm not going to use Ren's bed. I'll just go home; I'll be back later if you need me to be."
Ellie bolted up. "Fay, no, I'm not going to use Ren's bed. I'll just go home; I'll be back later if you need me to be."
"Wait!" Fatmy quickly grabbed Ellie's hand, stopping her from leaving. "You can sleep in my room. I mean you used to stay over." It's not like she was trying to stop Ellie from sleeping, Fay just didn't want her to be far away. She needed her to be close by. "Please." Nanee saw the fear of Fay's face, she has seen it many times before this. No matter how strong she acted, Nanee knew that deep down she was a scared girl. Honestly if she wanted she could use that against Fay and have her do her bidding, but Nanee wasn't like that. All she wanted was the princess happiness. Nanee stayed quiet. She feared that the princess would punish her if she said anything.
Ellie closed her eyes for a few seconds while she thought. "Alright," she sighed. "That's - ok."
"Ren, if you don't mind I'll be back." Fay led Ellie out of the room and down the hall. It was awful that her room was across the castle, but the king didn't want his children being close with any visitors just in case. "I'm sorry I didn't know you were so tired. You should have told me." Fay felt extremely bad. She had been making her bestfriend suffer. While she was gone and now. How can I make this up to her?
Nanee sat in the chair and gave Ren a side glance. I was completely forgotten. The princess hates me so much she can just forget I'm in a room with her, like I'm nothing. Still scared to say a word she stayed silent, but she was also scared to leave the room in case. What is he thinking right now?
Ellie shook her head. "Please don't worry. I just haven't slept much in the last…" she stopped before saying month. "In a little while. You know, I probably don't even really need to sleep right now, I'll just wait until later," she rambled, pulling back slightly.
"No," Fay pulled back, but it didn't do much with how weak she is, "You need sleep, please. I can stay in there until you fall asleep if you want?" Fay almost sounded like Ellie, with the mothering like tone. You're not her mom, so stop. Fay thought that, but still, she rather Ellie be safe and taken care of than herself. Even if that meant going against the Queen.
Ellie sighed and rubbed her eyes. "I - that's not necessary. You should… I don't know. Do something - " she stopped. Fay could not get in trouble again. " - If you want to stay with me, that's fine," she finished blankly.
They walked down the halls together and anyone who gave them a weird look, Fay made sure they stopped. She was not going to let anyone hurt her, no one. Tonight is the night. Fay was actually feeling a lot better and figured she had enough strength to get to town. There was a specific person she wanted to see, someone that she knew would help her… maybe. They made it to her room, but what Fay forgot is that there were books everywhere and chains bolted to the ground. Oh well. Shoving books off her bed, she cleared an area for Ellie to lay down.
Ellie blinked at the mess, but didn't say anything and say on the bed. It had been quite a while since she'd been in Fay's room, and needless to say, it was very different. "Did the queen do this as well?" She asked faintly.
"Ah, yes. I wasn't allowed out so all I had to do all day is read. Quite boring but I learned a lot." And she did, she learned a lot about past rulers and about the country, this was all going to useful in the future. "Sorry it's so messy, I should have cleaned it earlier." (I'm off to bed.)
Ren stared as the two left, swallowing. Freya seemed… different. It left a weird feeling in his stomach. He glanced at Nanee, still left wondering all of what happened. Ren felt lost with what had happened, and for the first time since Freya had gotten captured he really considered going home. “I… don’t know…” He mumbled, not even really sure what he was talking about.
Ellie shook her head. "When would you have had time to clean?" She asked drily, still glancing around.
"Yeah I guess that's true." Fay sat near the window like she used to do. Maybe she could get them to finally remove these bars. "Do you want me to stay here till you fall asleep?" If Ellie didn't then she was going to head back to Ren and explain things. She wanted him by her side, but if he wasn't willing to, then she doesn't know what will happen.
Nanee looked over at Ren. "I'm sorry." Fay was different there was no hiding that, but right now it was up to Ren to decide if he was going to accept that or not. "I'm sorry." She said again not knowing of what else to say.
Ellie shrugged. "I don't want to keep you if you have something you need to do."
Fay shook her head. Ren could wait. Seeing Ellie like this hurt her more than those beating, seeing as she's basically the root of all of Ellie's stress. "I'll sit here while you rest." Freya was no about to leave her bestfriend in this state. Fay looked outside and just watch as maids did the garden. I haven't been to the garden in a while. Fay thought later today she might as well go out there. It was about 3 o'clock, so there was a bit of daylight next. She would send Ben a letter, letting him know that she was coming, but she couldn't trust anyone in the castle.
Ellie nodded blankly and lay down. She was too tired to argue. She blinked heavily several times before everything went black and she fell dead asleep.
Fay was surprised at how quickly Ellie fell asleep. Sighing she stood and walked over to her, she pulled the blanket up, as she examined Ellie closely. Her red fiery hair was still as wild as ever. Her skin was a bit more pale, probably didn't go out side as much. Her lips.. Wait, her lips? Fay quickly backed away. That was a weird thing to think. Wait no, made I was just thinks that they were chapped. Fay sighed convincing herself that, that was what she was thinking. Fay had always said she was beautiful, and that she was more for to be a princess, but she didn't think about it much. "Anyway," She walked back over and moved hair from Ellie's face so it wouldn't bother her while she slept.
Nanee looked over at Ren. "I'm sorry." Fay was different there was no hiding that, but right now it was up to Ren to decide if he was going to accept that or not. "I'm sorry." She said again not knowing of what else to say.
“I still don’t get it. Why are you apologizing? What does all this have to do with you?” Ren asked, confusion clearly written on his face. He felt like he was negotiating a trade gone awry, but he couldn’t strike a deal.
"I was there when it was happening. I saw it all but never tried to stop her." Nane looked to Ren, she needed to just come straight out and say it. "I cleaned her wounds, so that the Queen could make new ones." Nanee immediately stood up and got down on her hands and knees. "I know it was wrong, I'm trying to make up for it now. I've already apologized." She knew words weren't going to do much, so she was going to show it through actions. "Prince Ren, please, I'll do everything I can to make it up to all of you." This time tears actually did fall down her face. She couldn't help it. She was in the wrong, so Nanee thought she deserved to be hated.
Ren’s mouth slowly parted, and he quickly kneeled down on the floor next to her and took her hands in his. “Nanee, it is okay. It is okay,” He said softly, reaching up and wiping a tear from her cheek. “I know the queen is merciless, even if my encounters with her were brief. You didn’t have a choice,” Ren told her gently. It was clear she felt horrible for what she’d done, and it wasn’t like she had been the one to hurt Freya. “You had healed the princess anyways, Nanee,” He pointed out softly, taking her hands and pulling her upwards towards the lounge chair meant for two, “Here, come sit with me.”
If only the princess saw it that way. More tears streamed down her cheeks and sat next to Ren. Ever since she was little she had a silly little crush on Ren, but now, now it was real, and she wanted to be with him. But he had Fay. Thinking that only made her cry more. How embarrassing. "The princess hates me." Nanee said in between sobs. "Why are you so kind to someone like me?"
Ren snatched one of his blankets and wrapped it over Nanee’s shoulders. He grabbed a handkerchief too and wiped the tears from her cheeks. “Just like what you said in the hall.” Ren offered a small smile, “‘We are people first, and status doesn’t matter when it comes to comforting people’.” He took her hand in his and gave him a slight squeeze, “I will try to talk to Freya, I will try to explain your perspective. I’m sure she doesn’t truly hate you,” Ren told her. He couldn’t imagine Fay hating someone, she seemed too kind to truly, genuinely hate someone.
Ren is too kind. Nanee wiped away her tears, knowing that she was stronger than this. "Thank you." She was sure Fay still wouldn't for give her, but it was worth a shot. Then a knock came at the door. Without anyone answering Fay walked in. "Ren we need-" Fay froze in her tracks at what she saw. What is this girl thinking? A simple maid, getting cozy with a prince "Move away from him now." Frey's voice was demanding. Nanee went to stand but decided not to in the end. Is, is she defying me? She stomped over and grabbed a chunk of Nanee's hair. "How dare you!"
Ren’s eyes widened as the scene unfolded before him. For a second, he was just too shocked to move. Then for another second, he was trying to decide what he could possibly even say? He liked a Freya a lot, and understood where her anger was coming from, but Nanee was also very kind…
Thankfully, he didn’t even have a chance to talk when Edgar came charging in, “Princess Freya, I’m am truly sorry but you must not come in here without permission in the first place,” He said sternly as he laid a hand on Freya’s shoulder and gently pulled her away. Ren knew him well enough that he could tell Edgar was getting very frustrated with the princess charging in here at her own will.
Fay still had a pretty good grip on Nanee's hair when Edgar pulled her away, which only made Nanee fall to the ground. "Get off of me!" She finally let go of Nanee to push Edgar away. Honestly she didn't care who he was, she was a princess and this was her castle. "Don't touch me." Her voice was low but threatening. Once she was in one of these anger fits it was hard to come out of, and she would take it out on anyone. Most of the staff here think she is now a demon child, but if they went through what she did, would they be the same? Probably not. "Fine," She looked to Ren, anger still on her face. "You want me gone, fine. Have fun with a maid." She waved him off as she started to leave.
