”So do I.” she nodded gently. ”But let's not jinx it. I don't want to lose you either… not again.” she said, carefully holding him close as a reassurance that he was really here.
”So do I.” she nodded gently. ”But let's not jinx it. I don't want to lose you either… not again.” she said, carefully holding him close as a reassurance that he was really here.
"I'll try… To not die…" He sighed,
The voice of Captain Blake sounded from the speakers, coming loud and cleared.
"Attention all Marines, a ship-wide meeting shall occur in 30 minutes, please make your way to the deck."
James heard this and sighed pressing the help button on the side of the bed and quickly, a nurse brought a wheelchair and hurried to help him.
"It's fine. I can do it myself." James said after hearing what she said, this is what she said:
"It seems through the night, Commander James, you loss control of your legs, the doctors will check up on this after the meeting."
”Good. I will do the same.” she promised, kissing his cheek before she heard the announcement.
Liz slowly stood up and waited with James as he called for the nurse. She almost rolled her eyes at the sight of the wheelchair, figuring the doctors were just overprotective of his health, though her face paled at the nurse's words.
”W-what do you mean? You think he's…” she couldn't bring herself to say the word as she remembered how broken his body was in the dream.
"We don't know ma'am. Though it is doubtful… There is a chance," The nurse was hesitant as she said this.
James meanwhile, silently clambered onto the wheelchair and didn't speak.
"Funny thing is. I can't move my legs exactly where he… dismembered them…" He said quietly before heading to the deck, alone or not.
Liz nodded in understanding at the nurse and looked after James as he started to leave. She quickly caught up to him and walked beside him to the meeting. She thought she remembered that the water had restored his limbs but she didn't care if this was a temporary or permanent effect or not. ”It’s alright, James. It'll be alright.”
"How was I saved again? How did you patch me up again?" He sighed and looked at her.
”I didn't really…” she said softly. ”I used my mimic of your magic to make a walking stretcher and took you to the lake.” she took a shaky breath before continuing. ”As soon as you were in the water, fire shot up all around the lake and these… figures in long hooded robes started chanting. Once you floated back to the surface and you were healed. Then the… mages, I guess, practically shouted at me to take you and leave. That's when I woke up.”
"I was healed completely?" He asked.
"Physically I mean."
”I thought you were. I… I didn't really check… I was so relieved to see you… and very hurt when I realized that he had actually… k-kil…” she choked softly as the word caught in her throat. ”He kept taunting me but I didn't believe it was really you until that moment.” she admitted, blinking back tears as she tried not to look down.
"What if, I was healed, as in all my body parts were but my nerve connections… They were damaged?" He muttered before sighing and holding her hand.
"Hey hey, it's fine… If I do ever die, it'll be a peaceful one and I'll be with you at that time."
She gripped his hand, grateful for the gesture and nodded at his quiet words. ”We can have that checked after the meeting.” she agreed as she turned to look at him with a soft smile. ”I will stay with you. You don't have to worry about that.”
"And that's why I love you," He smiled back as they made their way to the deck.
"And will continue loving you,"
”I love you too.” she smiled and kissed his cheek, not caring who saw them.
And many did see them, and alongside that, murmurs came from people around them. They were quite famous, Liz and James, especially due to the happenings in the invasion and their class of power.
Blake though silenced them as he began to speak.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, Humans and Nonhumans, Marines and ex-marines."
"We have gone through a hard time, many of us have died and many of us have been injured… And many of us will continue to be injured. But do not think that we are losing, for we have pushed back the front, we have increased our safety perimeter, many people have joined us and many will continue to join us. But, we have a problem, we have limited fuel, and we have technology that is damaged or will be too wasteful in our current state. So, we have a shortage of technology. And with this technology shortage, we need a power source, something that is common and powerful. And we think we may have found it." He looked at everyone.
Liz stood up straight as she always did at these meetings but didn't let go of James’s hand. She glanced around at the whispers before turning her attention to the captain. It made sense that, eventually, they might run out of power but she raised a brow at the mention of a solution.
"Our friends, the Golden Elves, are pioneers in their own right, and they know of a resource which is powerful, easy to use and perfect for our needs… A sort of crystal, for those 'gamers' out there, it's something like a energy crystal you get in fantasy games."
"But. There is a problem, quite a large one." He took a deep breath.
She chuckled quietly at the ”gamers” title for whoever was one. Sure, she liked games but she didn't really consider herself much of one.
Of course there would be a catch… she sighed softly before looking back up to hear how bad it was.
"Our scans have found data of a large mine, untapped and nearby, estimations have thought that it will last us about 20 years until it has ran out. The problem is, it's surrounded by military bases of the enemy and is in the mountains surrounded by a jungle. This jungle is highly dangerous. If you think about those bases I just mentioned and then doubled their possible numbers, you will have the danger level of that place.
To get around this problem, we will one, need to lead a short revolution of those bases and for them to join us. This won't be hard. But it won't be easy either. Other than that, once we have completed stage one, stage two will be our vehicles to create a large path, wide enough for 6 vehicles. It will be surrounded by concrete walls that have been enchanted and then a Carbon Di-Hydrogen glass roof." Behind him, a screen showed the schematics.
"But for all this to work. We need volunteers. A small amount for sneaking into the bases, meeting our contacts and changing their society."
Liz listened carefully to the information with a thoughtful expression. Two decades didn't seem like a very long time… even for a temporary solution to this problem. She bit her lip slightly to keep quiet, though she visibly was nervous at the risk of this mission. Starting a revolution? That sounded interesting… Scouting and infiltrating an enemy military base? Her lips twitched into a small smirk. That was her strong point. And she could see the benefit of having a Legendary on this mission. But…
She gently held James’s hand a little tighter. If he couldn't go; she wouldn't. It was too much of a risk until they knew his condition.
James looked back at Liz.
"I want to do it." He was determined.
Blake finished his speech and the room erupted in voices, talking as they discussed what they had learnt. He, however, had lied in regards to one small bit. That this 'large' mine, really was only enough for 10 years and that they needed to hurry if they wanted to survive.
Liz looked back at him in admiration and worry. ”So do I… but what about your legs?” she asked gently. It would, no doubt, be a hard enough mission even if he didn't need the wheelchair… But she wasn't sure if he did or not.
"We'll… Figure something out, I'm sure we will." He sighed.
"I just hope we can figure it out quickly…"
She nodded and gave a soft smile. ”Alright. If you're that certain about going, then we will.” she told him, silently promising not to leave his side during the mission. ”Should we tell the Captain first or let the doctors check you out?”
sorry bout that, school works been piling up since school started)
"Captain is busy right now. Doctors then," He thought about it before answering, glancing around at the crowd of people.
(It's ok.)
”Alright.” She nodded, kissing his cheek before walking behind him to help turn the chair.
