"Oh, I would love to," Kami said. "We don't have magic down in the Underworld. All we have is fire, which only myself and Papa can control. Dad can do it occasionally, but not often because he's human.

“I can’t imagine living without magic. It’s been a thing ever since. . well let’s just say that it’s normal for the butterflies to use magic. Well, then, just follow me. It’ll be faster if we go by warnicorn, but seeing as we don’t have any, I guess we can go walking.” Ember said as she lead the way.
Kami couldn't be bothered to walk, so she just put her feet together. Flames sprouted from the soles of her shoes and she was floating a bit off the ground. She stayed in time with Ember, not moving ahead or falling behind.
For the first fifteen minutes, Ember had walked, but then she got tired and summoned Cloudy. If she could use magic to not walk, why not use it? That was something she always questioned. If life gave you the ability to use magic and you don’t use it to your advantage, then you’ve wasted pretty much every thing. About another fifteen minutes, they reached a small beach. She got off cloudy and perched on the sand. An alligator emerged from the water and looked at Ember.
“Wah!” Ember said.
The alligator responded with a “Waah!”
“Bwah!” Ember said once again, trying to hold in a giggle.
“Bwaah!” The alligator responded, not even looking at Ember anymore.
“Rahh!” Ember said, but this time, part of her giggle was in her response.
“Raahh!” The alligator said.
Nothing happened for a couple of seconds.
Kami watched the interaction with weird eyes. "OK that's really fucking weird. Why are you talking to an alligator like that? And why is it talking back? Like…that's not how this should be going."
“Shush, Child. Let me embrace my inner weirdness.” Then, things started to happen. The alligator went back into the sea and rocks started emerging from the water and what looked like a house. She stepped on the rock carefully and hoped from rock to rock until she reached the entrance of the sanctuary.
Kami avoided stepping on the blocks, instead gliding over with the soles of her feet having flames. She stepped down onto the ground of the sanctuary, looking around. "Is this…is this the magic sanctuary? It's…whoa. It's just whoa."
“Pretty Impressive right? From the outside it looks like some sort of house, but from the inside, it just blows your mind away. The Alligator that I was talking to is the gatekeeper of the magic sanctuary. Without doing the whole conversation thingy, there is no way you can get in.”
"I guess…but let me guess. I can't touch the water?" She'd heard a lot of stories from both her parents about the water in the magic sanctuary, and she didn't want to risk it.
Ember narrowed her eyes at the water and then shrugged. She honestly didn’t know if Kami could touch it or not, but she decided it was better that she didn’t. “I don’t know, but it would be be better if you don’t touch it.”
"I mean, I kinda wasn't planning to because of the stories my parents told me. Didn't your mum tell you tell you about it? Spend too long in it and you could lose your memories of everything."
Ember shook her head. Star never told her stories about the water of the magic sanctuary. Now that she thought of it, she would advice anything to do with the magic sanctuary. She sighed and sat on the ground, looking around. This was actually the third time she had been here. The first time, her grandmother had brought her here for shelter and the second time, her mothers brought her here just to see it.
Kami decided to sit down besides Ember, crossing her legs. She looked around at the magic sanctuary. It was quite beautiful, really. She'd never seen anything like it. The Underworld was so bland, and Mewni was so colourful.
“I wonder how the underworld looks like. Maybe one day you can give me the tour? Since you know, I haven’t seen your home and all that. Since you always insist that we hang out at Mewni and we end up dimension hopping all the time.”
"Yes, maybe. Although I will say that we like red and fire. I suppose I could take you to Lava Lake Beach, but I remember from when we were kids that your parents didn't really like it. Also humans can't go in without proper protection, so you might not be able to get in fully. I can only do it because I'm mostly demon, but if I spend too long in the lava then I can burn."
“Ah, I see. It’s cool learning new things about you that I didn’t know before. Red and fire huh? I mean both of those things are cool and all, but seriously? Anyways, I would love to go to Lava Lake Beach, even though I might not be able to get in fully.”
"I guess we could go now. If it's gonna be an hour before it's less crowded in the marketplace, we could go during that time. People mistake my outbursts as anger like Papa's. Nope. Just a girl who's had PTSD since she was six years old. Fun times."
Ember sighed and stood up from the ground. She shivered and tucked a strand of hair that was stoping her from seeing completely. During their talk, her sun had turn into hourglasses, showing how bored she was. Not bored that she was talking to Kami, no, bored because there wasn’t anything to do in the magic sanctuary. She smiled at Kami and looked around. “That’ll be pretty cool.”
"So…do you want to go then? I can easily make a portal." She properly looked at Ember. "You look bored. I'm not…boring you, am I?" It was one of the things Kami never wished for. Her friends to get bored and leave her.
“No, you’re not boring. What’s boring to me is this sanctuary. Sure, it’s cool and all, but there’s not really much to do.” She paused and then smiled. “Yeah, I’d like to go.”
"Ok, fair enough." Kami trusted her friend. It was hard for her to do this and she didn't want to lose a friend. She stood up, moving to a very empty space. When there, she set up a fire portal to Lava Lake Beach. "Well, come on in."
Ember looked at the fire portal and pursed her lip. For some reason, that portal reminded her from the portal that was completely orange and that brought the person to Hekapoo. Ember sighed and went through the portal, not knowing what to expect on the other side.
As Kami walked through after Ember, the portal closed behind her. In front of them was Lave Lake Beach, with it's dark sand and lava waves. It was one of her favourite places to be, whether she was alone or with someone else.
Ember’s mouth dropped open. Never in her life had she seen something so awesome as Lava Lake Beach before. The lava waves moved back and forth, like any wave would, but the movement was slightly different. A huge smile appeared on Ember’s face and she rubbed her eyes. “Wow, this is so awesome!”
"Yeah." It was quite empty, actually. The time of day and the day of the week meant that most people weren't here yet. "Looks like we have it to ourselves right now."
