Val folded the corner of the page, then set down her grimoire. Unfortunately, free time was over. Which meant she had to do things. Which meant she couldn't read anymore. She got out of her bed and wandered over to the big house, because Chiron wanted her to do some shit. She didn't know what. Chiron never bothered to tell her things like that. She strolled across the grounds, then entered the Big House. Once she entered, she threw a rock at Seymour's head, waking him up. Because she was in a bodge mood. Because Chiron had told her to come here without even bothering to give her a fucking reason. Gods she hated him.

Acacia climbed out of the cab, thanking the driver with a $50 bill. Her satyr had led her as far as he could, but got summoned away. He told her she seemed like a capable young woman, and had given her directions to this so-called "Camp Half-human syrup". Acacia didn't like the name. It sounded like 'you are half one thing, half another. and we call it camp for marketing purposes.' For some reason it just had a fake, plastic, lie-wrapped-in-a-rainbow ring to her ears.
But she had some serious trust issues, so a small part of her skull control acknowledged that it could be all the satyr had said and more, if she would just give it a chance.
Atop the hill in front of her, a pine leafy tower with some sort of tinsel or shiny blanket glittered in its branches. Who puts Christmas decorations in a leafy tower, very poorly at that, in September?
