Cassie nodded, eyes twinkling slightly. "I've heard an unnecessary amount about you," she told the girl.

"I was hoping you wouldn't say that…" Karina said with a weak smile. She had only brought up her parents because someone was bound to ask. The girl didn't want labels pressed on her from the start.

Cassie rolled her eyes. "It's not my fault the media likes royals. Plus, you're double royalty. Personally, I don't think that makes you any different from everyone else here, but I don't run the press, unfortunately."

The girl nodded. "Thank you," she replied, feeling a bit more relieved. "Stars, I don't hear that enough," Karina said, referring to Cassie's comment about not being different. Her body relaxed at this, feeling a bit better about the whole situation.

“Can we leave? Like, run away. Now. I’m already sick of this fancy party.” Alpha glanced around the room, looking for an escape. “How about we all run for the door, they can’t stop all of us.”

Cassie sharply turned her head to Alpha and looked at her for a moment before speaking. "What are you, 12? Why the hell would we want to leave for no reason whatsoever? That's the stupidest thing I've heard in my entire life."

“14. And I’m still taller than your mom. And do you seriously want to stay here? Enclosed? With no thing to do?” By this point Alpha was packing with the agitation of spending time in the fancy house.

Cassie pinched the bridge of her nose. "Ok, so, let me get this straight: besides insulting my mother unnecessarily, you want to run away. Because you're bored?"

“Yes. And I was not insulting your mother, I was just saying, don’t judge a persons age by their height. Obviously you don’t understand what it’s like to have wolf blood. It makes you quite restless.” Alpha glanced at her father, who was sitting in a chair knee bouncing, he remained like that for a moment until her mother out her hand on his leg. Why couldn’t she find somebody to calm her like that? Whatever.

"Okay - first of all, my mother's the same height as you. She's not 16 anymore. And second of all, could you be any more dramatic? Sorry for my rudeness, but your being restless doesn't mean that we should steal a spaceship and leave the house for no reason whatsoever. 14 year olds don't drive spaceships. Just - go outside and run around for an hour or eight," she suggested flatly, returning her gaze to her port.

“I just meant we should leave the party and see the sights, not steal spaceship. But have you heard anything my mother? I can damn well fly a spaceship. Better than your father, I think anyone who can fly a spaceship or not can fly better than him. That’s what my parents said anyway.” By this point, Alpha was yelling. “And I’m not just some dog you can put in the backyard.” Why did Cassie have to be so rude? Why did her parents even like these people? Anybody who raises a child like her must be crazy.

"Oh. My. Stars. You are an actual child. Okay, cool, so I'm going to go chill in a different corner, which is what I was doing before you decided to interrupt me. I don't know what made you think that it was a good idea to insult not one but BOTH of my parents, who happen to be some of the most amazing people in the galaxy, but I wouldn't do it again if I were you," she suggested sharply. "If you're going to act like a child, why shouldn't I treat you like one?" She added, turning and walking to the snack table, where she didn't take any food but stood there and typed on her port, talking to her actual friends.

Karina had been watching the whole situation, eyes wide. Deciding that her normal tone would likely be ignored, she raised her voice like the other two were. "Can everyone just calm down?!" she shouted, getting the attention of a few of their parents. Noticing eyes on the group, she waved at her parents with an embarrassed look on her face before turning around. "Look. Sorry for that, but it was only escalating. I'm pretty sure everyone equally isn't happy about meeting new people. If you are, then great. Doesn't matter. We're supposed to at least try and get along without biting each others' heads off!"

"Yeah, we're supposed to, but it's rather hard when a kid's throwing a temper tantrum at you," she scoffed. She briefly looked over at her mother, who came over to talk to her sharply before returning to the table with the rest of the adults. Cassie held back tears. She didn't like being scolded. "Whose idea was this, anyway?" She muttered.

“Unbelievable. So is literally unbelievable.” Alpha stormed over to where her parents were. “I’m leaving. Goodbye.” Her parents turned to look at her, “Alpha? Where are you going? You are not leaving.” Scarlet half whispered at her daughter. “Mom. The other kids, especially the Thorne one are annoying and weird. And they’re treating me like a child. I’m not staying.” Was the only the beginning of complaining that Scarlet heard. “I’m tired and sunburnt, which hurts in this dress, by the way, why do I have to wear a dress?”

He shot a side-glance at Karina, true confusion breaking his act. When the squad had planned every excuse and countered anything that could break Aquila’s cover, they didn’t realize the second generation wouldn’t get along. No, this would ruin everything…

Karina took a seat against the wall, frustrated. "To be honest the whole argument is childish. Not trying to say anything about the two of you of course. I do agree that sitting around here is a bit boring and I'm sure our parents won't mind if we simply stayed on the property," the girl suggested. She had her head in her hands, seeming irritated that she was the only one trying to help the situation. "Alpha shouldn't have insulted your family, yes, but she might have taken something you said the wrong way?" she offered. Stars, she wasn't even the oldest but she was acting like a freaking marriage counsellor.
"In short… just apologize to each other for stars' sake! I'm sick of hearing you two bicker like little kids!"

“Because we are here to have a nice time and be polite. Don’t question us. We came to have a nice time and catch up with friends.” Wolfs tone was much harsher than Alpha was used to. “So be polite. I don’t care if you have to fake it. Just listen to me. Just this once. Act your age for once in your life. I don’t care what the others act like. I was being trained to be a soldier when I was your age. You have it good. So be polite.” Why was her dad being so harsh? Her mom glanced at her dad and nodded. Why were they acting so different? “Seriously? You just want me to fake a smile? No thanks.” Wolf grabbed his daughters arm in a death grip and looked at her until she got the message. She knew he didn’t mean for the grip to hurt her that badly. She knew he couldn’t control it. Alpha clenched and unclenched her fists and briskly walked away. Don’t cry. Don’t cry. But only pesky tear slipped out anyway as she looked at her red arm.

Seeing Alpha walk back over, Karina thought it was probably in her best interest to not be stuck in the middle of the argument and simply try and act like she was supposed to. To keep the peace. Standing, the girl looked at the girl walking back to the group. Her arm was a bit red and she seemed to be crying. "I'm not going to act like I know what's going on. I'm not good at comforting people either. That doesn't mean I like seeing people upset. So… do you want to maybe go outside a moment and calm down?"

“Ummm everything’s fine. Yeah.” She smiled an obviously fake smile. Hopefully her dad would be happy now. “But how about we just, uh, go outside.” She grabbed her red leather jacket and looked for the door, she spotted it with a moment of relief, but then saw Cassie next to it. Dang it. She began to walk to it but her trembling fingers kept almost dropping her jacket. Ugh!

Cassie edged away from Alpha when the girl went to go outside. "I'm going to stay inside," she informed them quietly as she walked away from the door back toward her corner. Why can't you just shut up for once in your life?

Alpha felt relieved when Cassie didn’t go outside. She had enough people criticize of how she acted today. It was normal when others did it. She could just snap back, but from her dad? That hurt. It hurt a lot more than her arm. It hurt more than when she broke her leg. Her dad was also the one to support what she felt. Why couldn’t he now?
