“You're so cute..” rantaro mumbled softly, thinking kaito was asleep
"H-huh…?" Kaito responded as he felt his face go red. He wasn't expecting that comment. "Rantaro…you think I'm cute…?"
The comment had definitely taken him by surprise. He had only then woken up, but he knew what was said. He hadn't expected to be complimented the moment that he woke up. He didn't mind, but he wasn't sure how to respond since it was incredibly sudden.
(boop)
“ aah!” he yelped “ I- I didn't know you were up..” he said softly “ but yes.. Yes I do”
Kaito didn't seem to mind the compliment, but he found himself unable to respond to the comment. He was going to say something in response, but he suddenly felt a burning pain in his chest. He tried to ignore it, but he couldn't, as he then started coughing. There was no blood involved, thankfully, but it did appear to be a rather intense coughing fit.
“A-are you okay?”
Kaito couldn't respond for a moment, but he eventually stopped coughing and nodded in response to the question. This was far from the worst that he had felt due to his condition, so he didn't think much was wrong. He felt weak, and he was in pain, but he didn't think that it was unusual, so he figured that he was alright.
“ maybe you should see a doctor..”
Kaito shook his head. He didn't see that as necessary since he had been dealing with his condition for years by then. There wasn't much that could be done about it, so he never considered getting it checked out. Besides, it was far from being at its worst. He didn't want to talk if he didn't have to, but he was sure that he would be fine.
“Alright..” rantaro said and kissed kaitos head
Kaito relaxed a bit at the display of affection. Somehow, that always seemed to calm him down a bit. In that case, it helped distract him from how he felt. It helped lessen all of his pain, and he even managed to give Rantaro a small smile. Things felt like they would be okay, at least for a while. Kaito was a bit concerned about his condition, but things were okay at the moment.
“ do you mind if I kiss you?”
Kaito shook his head. Despite everything that happened, he didn't mind receiving affection from Rantaro at all. He actually found it calming when the other expressed his love for him. He wasn't sure why it calmed him down so much or why he didn't mind when his boyfriend had only died the previous day, but it helped. He felt closer to Rantaro after everything.
Rantaro nodded, kissing the other softly. Also giving room if the other pulled away
Kaito had no reason to try to pull away from the kiss. He allowed it to happen, and he truly didn't mind it. To an extent, he actually enjoyed it. He thought that it was nice and comforting, and it helped bring him a bit of happiness. Things felt a lot better now that he had Rantaro with him.
“Are you hungry?” he asked after pulling away
Kaito shook his head. He wasn't that hungry at the time, but he hoped that it wasn't going to worry Rantaro. Sometimes he just had days like that, and he really didn't want to give the other even more to worry about. Enough had happened in their lives recently.
"No, I'm not that hungry right now…" he responded. "I'm alright, though, don't worry."
“I'm glad your talking Kai.. That's a good sign..”
Kaito nodded in response. He had completely forgotten that it was probably a bit concerning that he wasn't saying anything. At least Rantaro seemed to be less worried now. That was a good thing, especially since Kaito didn't want to make the other worried. He hated it when someone he cared about was worried about him, so he was glad that it was no longer a huge issue.
"Yeah, it is, isn't it?" he replied. "I still don't want to talk much, but I'll be alright. There's nothing to worry about."
“Okay sunshine..” he mumbled
Kaito gave Rantaro a reassuring smile. He figured that the other was probably still a bit worried about him, so he wanted to reassure him that everything was going to be fine. While he wasn't entirely sure about that himself, he had to try to convince the other of that. He hated making people worry about him, especially those who he considered close.
"Really, Rantaro, I'll be alright, I promise," he assured him. "I'll be just fine."
“Okay love..”
Kaito sighed softly. Rantaro wasn't going to believe him, huh? It didn't make much sense, as usually his reassurances convinced his friends that things were fine. Maybe the other was just on edge after witnessing Shuichi die like he had the previous day? That made sense in Kaito's mind, but he wished that he could stop Rantaro from worrying so much about him.
"Hey, Taro, I know you don't believe me," he stated. "What's wrong? Why won't you believe me?"
“ I know your condition, and now that I finally cleared my chest about my feelings.. I can lose you. “
Kaito sighed softly. He didn't want Rantaro to think that he was going to lose him. There was no way that he would die soon. His condition would occasionally cause issues, like it had earlier that day, but it wasn't serious enough for anyone to assume that he was dying. As far as he knew, with how much he had overcome, he could live a fairly normal and long life.
"Taro, I'm not dying. I'm not gonna die soon, I promise," he assured him. "Yes, my condition will cause issues, but I'll always tell you if things are bad. Right now, it's just a bit of chest pain and an occasional and short coughing fit. It's nowhere near as bad as it could be. I'll be alright."
